Applecross Nursing Home

My son was cared for by Applecross care home staff for eight years after a head injury left him totally helpless and I will always be grateful to them for their kindness and cheerfulness throughout his time there. Even at the end when things were really difficult for us, the kitchen staff brought fresh sandwiches, and this quiet kindness throughout was a great comfort to us. Thank you all at Applecross from the family.

I just wanted to write to extend my thanks to all the staff caring for my sister. A member of staff 'phoned last week to say she'd called an emergency doctor out as she thought my sister looked unwell and didn't want to take any chances. For the past week, all the staff involved in her care have been amazing. One of the nurses (unfortunately I can't recall his name) 'phoned early one morning to provide an update. His kindness and assurance were very much appreciated. My thanks to another member of staff in particular whose kindness and professionalism is amazing; and anyone else on Lewis who I've forgotten to mention, the Occupational Therapist, and all your amazing staff.

We have a sister who is a resident at Applecross Nursing Home for the past three years and cannot express how grateful we are for the superb care and attention she has received from the staff. From the moment she arrived, I felt a sense of warmth and compassion that made her feel like she was at home. All of the staff are friendly, caring and professional and go above and beyond to make sure that all the residents have everything they need. She has been made to feel so welcome and has had an amazing experience while living there. I would highly recommend Applecross Nursing Home to anyone looking for a great place to call home.

I feel like I was well looked after in Applecross. I had a great team of staff looking after me and getting me sorted for my move to my own house. I will miss the staff and other residents at Applecross. Thank you for all the help I have been given.

I would just like to thank the staff at Applecross for their kindness and professionalism for all the hard work they do every day. They make the home a very cheery place to visit. They all go the extra mile when taking care of my brother and their warmth to all the people they care for in the home is outstanding. Thank you, Applecross.

My mum was admitted into Applecross in February 2020 on a respite basis when my father was taken into hospital. In March her placement became short term. Sadly my dad's situation deteriorated and he died in May. My mum is still in Applecross. I have nothing but admiration for the job the staff are doing particularly in these unprecedented times. We were regularly in FaceTime contact with my mum when visits stopped. And the staff had to deal with telling my mum about my dad's passing which I believe they did with compassion and sensitivity. My mum has thrived in Applecross and although physically frail, she has improved greatly in relation to her mental capacity due to the level of stimulation she receives in the home. On visits - both outside and 'window/phone' visits the staff are supportive enthusiastic and committed. I have nothing but admiration for the work they have down with my mum particularly with the added challenges of COVID and a bereavement. They have my eternal gratitude.

The staff have done their best and utmost to reassure residents and families during these difficult times.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Applecross Nursing Home as a professional well-run care home with excellent compassionate staff.

Lack of communication. One doesn't know what the other doing, no time to spend five minutes just sitting talking to a resident. Management not got a clue whats going on. All sit on mobile phones and I don't mean the ones with resident's information on them. All staff congregate round in the staff room, exchanging their daily stories and pics on phones. As for Covid, once we were allowed back in to see Dad, a nurse walked in off the street, came onto the third level, congregated outside Dad's door. Someone asked why are you in, she said been in my garden and playing with dogs, and decided to pop in to see you, then she proceeded through to stand outside staff room, no mask no gloves, jeans and jumper on. After me watching her for 10 minutes, someone gave her a mask and she carried it into the staff room. To the manager, get yourself in there on spot checks, and see who the real workers are. When word goes around the manager's coming up, they actually try to look busy, too late for the nurse. To the manager, it's time to do management.
