The home is very comfortable and spacious. The staff are pleasant and attentive. I am kept well informed of matters relating to my mother.

My husband previously used Day Care and the respite facilities here but he is now in long term care and I must say, the care and compassion being shown by all the staff is so very reassuring to me and beneficial to my husband. I can rest easy knowing he's being well looked after.

Reply from Ian Marshall, Clinical Director at Birdston Care Home

We recognise how important the highest level, and standard of care to people who need it, is. We also understand how much support and care families need too, and to hear of your experience that we provided your husband with Day Care and respite support, and from this, it gave you the confidence to...

My mother has lived in Birdston for 2 years and 5 months. Her care has been excellent as the manager, nurses and carers including kitchen, cleaning and gardeners have worked together to make sure she has been comfortable throughout her stay.

I do feel however that individual activities have been lacking and not fully meeting her needs.

Overall good although staff sometimes not aware of having to leave the phone next to my mother and or not making sure the phone is working. Attention to detail.

Reply from Pauline McCrae, Home Manager at Birdston Care Home

Thank you very much for your kind review. Firstly my apologies that you have experienced difficulties telephoning, I have now discussed this matter with staff who will ensure and check regularly that the phone is both within reach and available for use.

Overall fantastic. Since the Activities Organiser left we miss the activities, especially bowling, boccia (bean bags) and parachute as my Mum can't do the activities that need thought. I am sure it will get back to normal when a new person starts.

Reply from Rosemarie Brawley, Marketing at Birdston Care Home

Unfortunately, the activities co-ordinator had left without notice, however, we have since recruited a new activities co-ordinator who has commenced in the role from mid-December. The activities program is currently active and we are pleased with the new appointment.

This care home is excellent. Residents are all treated with dignity and respect. Nothing is too much trouble for staff who are always bright and cheery. Residents are treated as individuals.

As a family, we have peace of mind that mum is safe and well cared for 24/7.

Birdston Care Home is a very good place to live. My mother is being cared for very well and has obviously settled in.
I am happy with her environment especially the beautiful gardens. The rooms are a little small but are clean and bright.
