I want to compliment all staff ie carers, nurses, cleaning, maintenance and management for the running of the care home. How they all give exceptional superb caring and keep their sanity is beyond me! My wife has been there since June 2023. The leadership, attention to detail in the daily caring is
brilliant! They are all like family. The food is great. They care not only for residents, they are also caring, thoughtful to all the visitors! We are all treated with undying respect and kindness. My wife has Lewy Body Dementia. She is on the go all the time and she falls down a lot. They are on the spot to her needs! Last Friday she fell down on her spine to where they had to call in the paramedics. I witnessed tremendous team work and dedication to duty where the paramedics got her moving and took her vitals ok. All were concerned for her. I highly recommend this nursing home!

My wife appears content and settled and participates in the daily organised activities. Home always looks clean and tidy and the staff are attentive to her needs. Families are encouraged to attend many of the social activites.

My experience with Crossgates has been horrendous at times! Laundry has a lot to improve on, horrendous service! No care in this service at all! As for trips out, constantly the same residents!! Am constantly complaining about laundry, care taking to put clothes were they belong, missing clothing etc!

I feel my relative is very well cared for by the staff . I think that she's as content & happy as is possible for her to be in her condition. I'm sorry she doesn't join in more of the activities offered because I'm sure she would benefit greatly from them

When my mum first became a resident she had physically challenging aspects to her care but the staff dealt with her brilliantly and now she is very settled and happy. Any issues that I have raised regarding her care have
always been dealt with promptly and satisfactorily so I'm very happy with how
my mum is being cared for.

When I enter the care home it's always clean and tidy. A lot of residents due to illness need extra care which they get. Some of the time, older residents are tired so they are asleep in the lounge. A lot of the residents, some of the time need extra assistance, like my wife, to care for her from time
to time. She sleeps a lot as she is up all night, so when morning comes round she is tired. She enjoys the food, special breakfast time.

I was a bit worried at first as my husband can be quite moody. He does not like the personal care side of it but I have seen a big improvement as time has gone on. All staff are very good with him so he is a bit easier now. He is always very clean and tidy and room is always spotless. I feel a lot better
now as I know he is safe as I was finding it difficult at home as I got older so I'm happy now with the way things are.

I am disgusted and disappointed with the care my father got at Crossgates Care Home. Within two weeks he had two infections one on both feet. Due to my father also having diabetes, having sores on his feet was imperative that they were cleaned and strapped. To my disgust he was constantly walking about
the home in bare feet, when the staff were challenged they would look up from their phones while sitting in the lounge, saying they had been cleaned. Moreover, when asked for more strapping so we could clean his feet, they would say they had to order more and blame the lack of supply on the pharmacy. Together, they also broke the law by not allowing the family into my father's 4 weekly review, stating the family would not understand the medical jargon. Crossgates have lied which also breaches the NMC code of practice. The lack of care my father received from these people is disgraceful. Due to the lack of care, my father is in hospital and it's not great.

Thank you for your feedback. We regret your experience and would like to clarify a few points, as resident wellbeing is our top priority. A Podiatrist assessed the resident and the foot lesions were present before admission. Although dressings were applied, the resident removed them and resisted wearing footwear despite staff's encouragement. Staff do not use personal phones; the devices observed are for logging care and monitoring residents' wellbeing. Medical dressings are prescribed by a GP and not typically stocked by care homes. Any delays were part of the standard process, and we acted promptly. The 4-week review was arranged by Social Work, and we followed their guidance regarding family involvement. We aim for clear communication without medical jargon during reviews. We are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care and are available to discuss any further concerns.

The relevant areas need reconsidering, whoever designed them needs a rethink. The difference between 'good' and 'excellent' is too significant. 'Very good' needs to be included. 95% of the staff are excellent and attentive to residents. The home is well organised.

My uncle went into Crossgate Care Home in November 2021. The care he received while he was in was of the highest standard. He was in and out of hospital during his short stay but always looked forward to going ‘home’.
I would not hesitate in recommending the care home.
So thank you to each and every
member of staff for looking after my uncle.

My husband was admitted to Crossgate Care Home in February 2020 and Covid erupted. Unfortunately because of Covid, our visits have been restricted but the staff (unfortunately I don't know many by sight because of masks) have been so kind, considerate and supportive not only to my husband but also to
myself. Keeping me constantly updated on anything important.

Personally, I would say that Crossgate Care Home is the best care home in Kilmarnock. Truly vocational staff and great service providers. I have no hesitation in recommending them to any prospective, loving family, wishing the best for their family member! In times when we have to work and rely on others
to care for our nearest and dearest in their time of need so we don’t have to worry, Crossgates is the place to trust. Alas, my mum has now passed, but during her time there she was well looked after and well thought of and cared for, the staff became my friends and I trusted them implicitly! Do not hesitate in choosing, it will reassure you and give you peace of mind!

My mum has been a resident in Crossgate Care Home for 22 months. In this time I have found management and staff communication to be open and honest, and very approachable with any concerns that may arise. They are caring, compassionate and very supportive of my mum's needs.
Through these difficult
Covid times, any incidents have been dealt with efficiently and I have been kept informed.
Overall I am more than satisfied with the care my mother is receiving. Having past experience working within the care sector, I know the difficulties staff can encounter, therefore I fully appreciate their help and support.

My mum was in Crossgate for respite care for six weeks. In that time she was given the wrong medication, medication at the wrong times, her clothes were lost (and still are) and she was wearing other people's clothing, including underwear. The place is filthy, smells badly and the care does not meet
basic needs.
Reply from Heather Taylor, Home Manager at Crossgate Care Home

Dear Tricia, we are sorry to hear you feel the overall standard of care at the care home was poor.
The instance of your mother receiving the wrong medication only happened on the first day, it was quickly noted and reported to all required. During the rest of her stay with us, your mother received correct medications as per the medical instructions, we are happy to provide you with the copy of the MAR Chart upon request. We are sorry that some of the clothing went missing, we located the two items that you specifically wished us to return and you collected them.
We would like to assure you that creating a safe and clean environment for all of the residents is of the utmost importance to us. We hired a new domestic supervisor and for the past 4 weeks there have been no cleanliness issues reported.
We would like to assure you that the issues you encountered are rare at our care home and we would love to see you at the home again in the future shall your mother require respite care.

My husband suffered a stroke in April 2016 and after a short stay in another nursing home, he was admitted to Crossgates Nursing Home. During his time there his general health has improved greatly and every effort has been made to improve his mobility. He is very well cared for physically and socially
including a good entertainment programme including two visits home for special occasions. I am sure his health will continue to improve due to the excellent care and attention he receives.

Dad has been in Crossgates for over two years now and the carers, nurses, etc. deal with Dad's needs very well. On the whole, he is happy but sometimes can be challenging as it’s vascular dementia. When he is like that the carers do cope amazingly well. Just listening to the repetitive chats is wearing
but they show great patience.
They have a great entertainments team who take them out to regular events and will try and cater for all their needs. They do seem to take people that would otherwise be hospitalised for the rest of their illness. We were so pleased to finally get taken to Crossgates after at least three found they could not cope with Dad not sleeping at nights or the fact that he was a ‘walker’. They prefer ones that sit and sleep and don’t cause disruption but unfortunately for quite a large proportion of vascular dementia sufferers that is just not possible.
They do an excellent job with very challenging people and it is of great comfort to us that Dad is in such good hands .

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.380)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.380) out of 10 for Crossgate Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.150 for Crossgate Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.15
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.23 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Crossgate Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.53
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
