Cannot thank Care Home Manager enough for the help she gave with my husband's emergency admission. She is exceptional in her role and support of resident's & family. Her warm, cheerful, friendly, enthusiastic manner sets the tone for a very positive, welcoming atmosphere throughout. Extremely impressed
by the entire staff as a unit. Highest praise for the care staff who helped my husband settle in quickly, treating him with dignity, respect, patience and personal interest. Cleanliness very good, testament to hard work. attention and efficiency of staff. The peaceful haven of the garden is a bonus, a very pleasant surprise to find it free of traffice noise in a built up area.

My husband is in Benvie Care Home around 8 months ago. From the beginning we have been seeing and receiving a very good care. Staff is doing amazing job and working hard. Rooms have got everything that patients needs. It's a very warm atmosphere in this care home. And its getting better from beginning
of this year very very satisified. Big thank you to all the staff and management.

My gran's end-of-life care was utterly appalling. I can't even describe the heartache this has caused me to witness being a carer myself. Tried to express my concerns with management, she was not interested and would not take my complaint seriously. I needed to go to care inspectors instead to reveal
that my gran didn't have an end-of-life care plan written out, pain management hadn't been managed properly, and gaps in paperwork an hour before passing, and when she's was in palliative care - 15 minutes checks were meant to be getting done, she died alone as no one called to tell us she was deteriorating and not one member of staff said we can stay until a young member of the family was told when leaving. Her mouth care was not given any of the times I was in. I was the one giving her mouth care. The list goes on. The article in the paper from August was my report to the care inspector. The level of care was heartbreaking, no apology from home. Every complaint I put in could not be upheld.
Reply from Lauren Kenny, Acting Manager at Benvie Care Home

We offer our most profound apologies for your experience at the home. We know that elements of care fell below the standard that our residents and relatives should expect and that we are committed to achieving. We are working hard to make significant changes within the home to ensure we can re-establish a quality of care that we are proud of. We have already implemented a great deal of this over the last three months and have seen improvements made within all elements of care. We remain committed to providing the best possible care for our residents and will continue to work closely with all members of staff and our care partners to ensure the highest standards are met with respect and dignity at the core.

I think a review is a great thing, it lets you know how your loved ones are getting on. Staff get to know their likes and dislikes etc. I have a brother that's been in the care home for almost seven years, he loves it and the staff are brilliant. I was very lucky to get my partner there also. He loves
the staff, food, care, and cleanliness and his room are lovely (homely). The management and staff are amazing.

The manager and staff in this establishment are excellent. The client care is excellent. They make relatives feel very welcome and I am kept informed on all aspects of care and if there are any concerns about health. All the staff are very patient and cheerful and the home is always clean and tidy.
My sister-in-law's room is to be decorated soon. Client care and dignity are always foremost. All staff are very supportive of family as well as clients. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone. Well done to all the staff regardless of status.

The staff are hard-working seeing to the resident's needs. They also keep me well-informed about my husband's well-being. My husband cannot speak or walk and remains secure in a chair, staff meet all his needs. I visit him twice weekly, and the staff always make me feel welcome. I also received a copy
of the programme they had for entertainment and activities during the festive season. I am still very pleased that he is cared for in Benvie Care Home.

My sister already given her review of your excellent Care Home and I would just like to echo this!
As a trained nurse myself I was very impressed, reassured and happy with all aspects of Mum's care. I just want to thank all the staff for looking after my mum with all the respect, dignity and care that
she deserved.
In Mum's final days we couldn't have asked for more support and comfort, not only to mum but, to all our family.
Thank you to everyone who works and is involved in Benvie Care Home.

My mother sadly passed away on Christmas Eve after being a resident for almost 3 years. Her care has been brilliant throughout in such difficult circumstances due to covid. I would, however, like to speak about her last few days on palliative care because the staff at Benvie were fantastic. They made
mum comfortable and treated her with such dignity, I couldn't have asked for more for her in her last days. Not only that was exceptional but the treatment and support of our family was such a help at such a difficult time. Thanks so much to all the staff for that.

In general, we are happy with dad's care and everything seems well organised but to be honest, we don't really know what his day to day life is. We understand that because dad came in during Covid things have been difficult and we feel he's definitely deteriorating. It's very difficult to get through
on the phone sometimes and often we are told he's eating and drinking well but no more. I feel I can't comment on the activities question as I don't know what goes on. We thought it was great when there was an events programme last Christmas and we knew what was happening.
Reply from Jasmine James Ali, Manager at Benvie Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. There is a weekly activities planner on each floor (next to the Lift) This year’s December planner is already in the post and your family will receive this shortly. During your next visits, please request the nurse in charge to discuss updates on dad's wellbeing and how he has been.
Being of full occupancy we must admit that our telephone rings constantly and sometimes you may experience delays in being answered. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.740)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.740) out of 10 for Benvie Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.457 for Benvie Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (69 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.457
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.283 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Benvie Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.583
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
