When I go to visit my granny, from arrival at the front door, you are greeted by lovely staff who always have time to have a chat and tell me how my granny is doing. The home meets the care and attention that she (Granny) so much deserves. They always put the resident in 1st place for care and all activities that they arrange for the on-site and trips out. My Granny loves the nail bar room that they now have as she enjoys getting her Nails painted. She is very settled at Craigieknows. The manager and all her team do a brilliant job.

The staff are extremely friendly at Craigieknowes; their kindness and care for the residents really show. My granny is very happy here. She has made great relationships and enjoys the activities a lot; it’s fantastic to see everyone enjoy themselves and see smiles on their faces. When we visit, we feel very comfortable and always made welcome. The rooms have recently been redecorated, and they look fab. Cannot fault the home.

Overall, satisfied with the care provided within the home. Good level of personal care and support to family.

Notable changes is staff over the past one to two years, potentially due to the pandemic and restrictions. Throughout this time staff kept families updated as best as was possible.

Since my mother-in-law moved into Craigieknowes Care Home a number of years ago, I have always found the staff helpful and supportive anytime that I visit. There has been a number of changes over the past 12 months which has all been for the greater good of the home, as the whole of the downstairs has had a makeover which is excellent for the residents and the staff. The home also has a new manager and she has a great team working with her.

Overall Experience
My aunt took up residence at Craigieknowes Care Home in April 2020. As next of kin I did not have any historical experience of care homes. I found the first three months of residence to be stressful due mainly to lack of information from the care home. I had to continually make frequent telephone calls to get an update on my aunt's condition and welfare status. I put this lack of communication down to the Covid situation. However, I was made aware by the care home management that there was to be a change in care home staff personnel. I began to receive regular e-mail updates from Craigieknowes, keeping me informed of the changes. I was now being kept up to date two-three times per week regarding the staff changes and my aunt's condition during Covid.

In summary, Craigieknows had made a significant change in the way it does its business. I receive regular updates and personal phone calls regarding my aunt's condition, I find the staff very professional, informative and most important to me ‘caring’.

The staff are doing a great job in my experience. They are looking after my dad extremely well and they are always happy to receive phone calls and to keep us informed. This is especially true under the new management and is welcome given that the situation with Covid has meant visiting has been affected so much by the rules.

My father has been a permanent resident since the beginning of October 2019 and our experience of this care home has been positive. The staff are very engaging with both residents and their families. The settling in period was difficult but the staff dealt with it very well. My father moved to an en-suite room within a few days to accommodate his personal needs which helped greatly. His room is bright with adequate furnishings and a TV. Food is presented regularly and there is a nice atmosphere in the home. The manager is very welcoming and always available.

My mother has been at Craigieknowes for 2 and a half years. The reason I chose this home was based on the fact that most of the staff had been there for a number of years and I took this as a good sign. We have got to know them well as we visit 4 times a week. They do a challenging job but are always caring and patient.

Review from John C (Brother of Resident) published on 17 May 2016 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

At the moment my main issue is the smell of urine that prevails in the area upstairs it hits you even before you open the door into the residents area, sometimes it is so strong it clings to your clothing after leaving the building.

Although there are two air ionisers one at each end of the corridors they are not really doing the job sufficiently.

Also having carpets in this kind of environment really is not suitable, a hard wearing lino or rhino flooring would be far better as any leaks or spillages of any kind can be seen and cleared up sooner and more conductive to this environment plus health wise you would not have the smell of urine clinging to it as you do on a carpet.

Ideally the rooms would be better having their own en suites for privacy for the clients and one wall painted as a feature wall to make the rooms more pleasant to be in.

Reply from Sharon Mudie, Home Manager at Craigieknowes Care Home

Many thanks for taking the time to review Craigieknowes Care Home. We will take note of the comments made and review the cleaning schedule for this particular unit to ensure regular washing of carpets is carried out.

With regards to the lack of en suite facilities, Craigieknowes is a purpose...
