My granny has been in Craigieknows for a number of years now; she is very happy and very well cared for. When I go to visit, you are always made very welcome indeed by all the staff. We have taken my 9-month baby daughter to visit, which my granny loves, as do the other residents.

My father has been a permanent resident since the beginning of October 2019 and our experience of this care home has been positive. The staff are very engaging with both residents and their families. The settling in period was difficult but the staff dealt with it very well. My father moved to an en-suite room within a few days to accommodate his personal needs which helped greatly. His room is bright with adequate furnishings and a TV. Food is presented regularly and there is a nice atmosphere in the home. The manager is very welcoming and always available.

At the moment my main issue is the smell of urine that prevails in the area upstairs it hits you even before you open the door into the residents area, sometimes it is so strong it clings to your clothing after leaving the building.

At the moment my main issue is the smell of urine that prevails in the area upstairs it hits you even before you open the door into the residents area, sometimes it is so strong it clings to your clothing after leaving the building.
Although there are two air ionisers one at each end of the corridors they are not really doing the job sufficiently.Also having carpets in this kind of environment really is not suitable, a hard wearing lino or rhino flooring would be far better as any leaks or spillages of any kind can be seen and cleared up sooner and more conductive to this environment plus health wise you would not have the smell of urine clinging to it as you do on a carpet.
Ideally the rooms would be better having their own en suites for privacy for the clients and one wall painted as a feature wall to make the rooms more pleasant to be in.

Many thanks for taking the time to review Craigieknowes Care Home. We will take note of the comments made and review the cleaning schedule for this particular unit to ensure regular washing of carpets is carried out.
With regards to the lack of en suite facilities, Craigieknowes is a purpose built care home that was constructed in line with the legislation in place at the time. When it was constructed, en suite facilities were not a requirement and it is impossible to reverse engineer these facilities. All residents and families are made aware of the facilities available prior to admission. That being said, we are about to commence major refurbishment to the showering and bathing facilities at Craigieknowes.
The painting or wallpapering of a feature wall in a resident's room is something that we are happy to do - we will discuss with the resident concerned or a family member in choosing a colour or wallpaper.
