From our initial contact seeking respite for Dad, we were so pleased with the immediate and professional response we received. After visiting Muirton House, we felt assured and confident that this would be a good place. During Dad's respite, he was well looked after with staff going above and beyond
to reassure him he was treated as a welcome guest.

My mother-in-law has been a resident for the past 8 years. She is happy, extremely well cared for and looked after. The staff are amazing, professional, caring and approachable for anything. The activities and outings laid on are wonderful. We live in Dorset and visit whenever possible, but happy and
content to know my mother-in-law is in the best place and being cared for by the best staff.

My mother-in-law is doing well with the care here. Some days she says better than others.
She has Macular Degeneration and although looks like she can see, staff need to know she can't see well at all. Needs help with such and her balance is very poor.

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We take all reviews and look at how to make improvements so that we can provide the best care and support on an individual basis. We are striving to have a stable, well-trained team, that is aware of all the intricacies of providing care for all residents, and we will take your comments and use them to expand on all staff induction and training. Our activity coordinator works closely with her and tries to provide appropriate activities for her based on what she has discussed with her. This is a continual learning process and is open to suggestions from both the client and you as her family, who have a great knowledge base for us to utilise. We are also looking at changing the menus for the summer, and have gained feedback from all residents including the client, on what they would like to see added. This was passed to the cook.

I have been visiting my sister for 18 months and am very happy with the care she receives there. Not an easy lady - staff show patience, compassion, all understanding in dealing with her. I also get support from the staff nurses in dealing with my own emotions. I would recommend Muirton House to people
looking for a place that deals well with dementia sufferers.

Mum has been a resident of Muirton House since October 2023. It was a hard decision for my sister and I to find a care home for Mum, as she had lived in her own home till that point. Staff were supportive and helped Mum and us settle her into her new home. Knowing she is in a safe and caring environment
means so much to us. Mum has now fully settled in and enjoys the company of other residents. She joins in some of the many interesting activities that are regularly scheduled for the residents. The lady who organises the activities is always cheerful and welcoming. The grounds are lovely, and we look forward to taking Mum outside for more than a quick walk, in warmer weather.
Staff are caring, attentive, respectful and nothing is too much trouble.

My wife was on an interim care placement in Muirton House Nursing Home following an extended medical stay in hospital. The staff throughout the home were all courteous and friendly, nothing was a problem. The meals and kitchen staff were excellent too. She particularly enjoyed the gardens, entertainment
and exercise classes. Special thanks must go to the team at Ericht View and the activities staff for being professional and inclusive, and to the home managers and handyman/gardener who helped ensure a smooth transition home.

Following a couple of respite admissions to Muirton House for my mum, I made the decision to put her on for full-time nursing care. I want to take this opportunity to thank the manager, nursing staff, carers and the dedicated staff at Muirton House. I have no regrets about my decision, my mum is well
cared for, treated with respect and her dignity maintained at all times. I highly recommend anyone struggling with a loved one with dementia, to entrust them into Muirton House.

My sister moved here in September 2022 and has settled in well. The unit is a good size and has the feeling of a family environment. There are always plenty of activities going on, and the residents regularly have outings in the minibus, which they all seem to enjoy. The staff are all friendly and caring
and seem to have genuine empathy with the residents. I have been very happy with my sister's care and am delighted that she moved here.

I have found the staff to be very proactive in seeing to my sister's needs. I am satisfied that my sister is receiving the best care and attention from staff who continually show compassion, kindness and consideration. One aspect of the home that I think can be improved is with regard to the bedroom
and ensuite facilities. Although adequate, they are showing signs of wear and tear and, in my view, require upgrading.

Our relative is hard of hearing and very little sight. The resident is 98 years old and is not the easiest of residents as he speaks his mind sometimes upsetting make staff in particular who he feels do not always give him the attention she thinks is appropriate. Because of staff shortages, I know it
is difficult to provide instant attention when it is required.
Reply from Sandra Reilly, Deputy Home Manager at Muirton House Nursing Home

We acknowledge that there may be times that the care and support has not always been delivered within the time frame that the residents feel that it should have been, however, we feel that has not reduced the standard of care that is provided to the resident.

I can't praise the staff at Muirton House highly enough. My father received the very best of care and staff went to such efforts to make his room lovely and homely for him. The staff took fantastic care of his belongings and took the time and trouble to always ensure that Dad felt able to take pride
in his appearance. His care plan ensured he was treated as an individual and with the utmost respect and dignity at all times.

I visit Mum weekly and am always greeted with a friendly face. Despite staff having the difficult job of doing lateral flow tests, they manage to make you feel at ease, so much so that after a few times you don't even feel it. Mum always looks smart and well cared for and her room clean and tidy. Mum's
mood can be up and down but the staff appear to deal with it well. Mum's dementia has deteriorated slightly during the pandemic but she is always happy to see me and my brother. Mum was still very reliant on us when lockdown happened but you can see that she is now comfortable in her surroundings and with the carers.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.565)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.565) out of 10 for Muirton House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.457 for Muirton House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.457
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.108 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Muirton House Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.8 = 0.508
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
