Staff are always welcoming and helpful to visiting relatives. There is a noted warmth between staff and residents. The activity coordinator encourages appropriate and thoughtful interaction with residents, her work in this area is of the highest standard.
All medical needs are professionally met.
Lounge facilities can sometimes be crowded and there is no direct access for my relative to outdoor space. However, staff take the opportunity to take her out when possible.

My husband has been at Muirton House Nursing Home for over five years and has always been given the best of care possible. Sometimes this has been difficult for the carers but they have responded with kindly professionalism. Despite their challenging workload, the extend their support to me too, making
sure I am welcome whenever I visit. Being able to be part of my husband's daily life I feel reassured his needs are fully met.

A nice place to stay but food is not a high standard. Lacks in imagination.
Scrambled egg and black pudding for evening meal!

It is a good care home and I feel confident that they care for my mother to a good standard. I sometimes have concerns when my mother is left alone in her room that she is not checked regularly. It would be good to have a chart hanging on the inside of the door so that checks can be monitored. My mother
is treated with dignity when I am present and I feel more activities could take place at the weekends - especially music and listening to songs relevant to the residents younger days. My only other observation is the smell of urine as you enter the building, some days it is more noticeable than others.

My aunt was a resident of Muirton House foe seven years before she passed away at the home in March 2016. My aunt had suffered from vascular dementia and I visited her regularly and was responsible for her care as her welfare attorney. I was hugely impressed by the kindness and affection shown by the
staff towards my aunt and by the way she was involved in activities despite her limited capacity. Muirton House management and nurses were also very friendly and professional in discussing my aunt's needs with me. Finally the care and dignity given to my aunt during her final days was truly outstanding.

Dad has been in care for over three years now in Muirton. From very first visit, I was struck by the friendliness and knowledge of all the staff, and my opinion has not changed. dad has dementia, with all the idiosyncrasies of behaviour that brings, yet his carers cope with all his mood swings and ensure
he is well cared for as an individual, not as another number. I have no hesitation in offering my thanks to them.
Verse 4 of Norman MacCaigs "Visiting Hour" says it all far more eloquently!

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.565)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.565) out of 10 for Muirton House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.457 for Muirton House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.457
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.108 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Muirton House Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.8 = 0.508
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
