My sister-in-law has been at Muirton House since August 2016 and her husband (my husband's brother) since October 2019 until his death on January 9th 2021. We have been impressed with the kindness, friendliness and care shown by the staff at all times. Also, they are to be congratulated on how they
kept Covid19 out of the home from day 1 of lockdown in March 2020 - sadly not the case for many care homes throughout the country.

Muirton House has a professional and caring manager and staff likewise. The low turnover of staff, which is unusual in the care sector, lends itself to a settled environment for the residents and staff group. My dad has excellent person centred care which has given me peace of mind. He loves a daily
walk, which the staff ensure he gets weather permitting, and his love of gardening has continued since moving into Muirton. The extensive grounds are superb for residents and visitors to walk in.

I’m struggling to find the words to adequately thank the staff at Muirton House. My mother was admitted in April 2019 at the peak of Covid. It was a very difficult time for all involved. The staff were superb - supportive, considerate, always there to answer questions and help. My mum may have lacked
family cuddles and visits due to lockdown, but the staff made up for that in bucketloads. They worked so hard and from their hearts to settle my mum in, building a loving, supportive and fun environment for her. Supporting not only Mum but also my dad and myself. We will be eternally grateful to each and every one of them. Thank you all.

I have two family members who have enjoyed living at Muirton. My grandmother stayed until August last year, receiving kind and attentive care in comfortable surroundings, with beautiful grounds, for many years. My uncle has also been a resident as part of the learning disability unit for many years
and the support is exemplary, he lives as independently as possible, is encouraged in his hobbies, is well cared for and has an incredibly active social life. There is a wonderful atmosphere in the unit and he has made great friends with the staff and other residents. Staff across Muirton have always been very pleasant and have kept in good communication when there have been any issues. A wonderfully personal touch was that staff encouraged my uncle to keep in regular contact with my grandmother once they both moved into Muirton/Ericht View (having previously lived together), a space was made for them to have lunch at their own table every Sunday, something they both looked forward to.

I visited Muirton House from the day of my wife's arrival and have nothing but admiration and respect for the staff for their care of my wife and other residents. I do have one objection though and that is the handling of my wife onto chairs/bed by hoist. I do understand the rationale completely of
its use but she gets very stressed by it. She is not heavy and I'm sure the 2 carers that it takes to use the machine, could manage the job easier and quicker and with no stress or angst.

Muirton House is a beautiful house and a caring, loving home in the real sense of the word. I feel secure in the knowledge that my husband is very well looked after in all aspects of his life there. The staff are wonderful and seem to care for me as well. This is not the old-age we planned but under
the circumstances, it could not be bettered. Thank you, Muirton.

My wife has been at the nursing home only since the 21st Dec 2019. It took her a bit of time to get used to being there but she seems to have settled down now. I haven't seen her during the lockdown, but our daughter phones to see how things are. She has been assured that her mum is doing fine. The
staff are all very good as are the management.

Dad was a resident of Muirton from 2012. Over the period of his residency, my brother and I have been very satisfied with the level of care he received. On each visit we noted that Dad was always clean-shaven, wearing his own clothes, and in general good health. His behaviour over this period proved
challenging to the staff due to the nature of his disease, however, we never, at any point felt concern regarding his wellbeing.

Beautiful building and surroundings. Friendly staff throughout. Regrading the staff on the EMI unit where my uncle resides, always pleasant and helpful.
The trained nurses are knowledgeable, professional and lead an excellent team of carers. They keep me informed and I have confidence in their abilities

I have found the home to be welcoming, friendly, clean and to be very well run in all areas. Starting with the home manager, administration, nurses, carers, maintenance person and not forgetting the cooking and kitchen staff and the excellent meals and recreational activities that are arranged and last
but not least the staff that clean and do the laundry. It's a team effort that works very well and I am very happy for my brother and sister-in-law to be in such a home.

Throughout mum's stay of just over two years, I have always been impressed by the professional and compassionate way the staff have cared for her and the other residents. I was a regular visitor and saw first hand the dignified way in which they looked after everyone, accommodating individual needs.
There was always a very welcoming atmosphere and a great sense of camaraderie among staff, residents and visitors. There are opportunities for those who wish to, to take part in a variety of activities, eg gentle exercise, arts and crafts etc and variety of entertainers go in on a regular basis. Good use is made of the minibus, taking residents out to local cafes and events.

During her time and particularly in the days leading up to her death they have been very supportive to my family and me. Mum was briefly in another care home before going here so I know that this standard is not universal. No hesitation in recommending Muirton House.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.565)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.565) out of 10 for Muirton House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.457 for Muirton House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.457
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.108 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Muirton House Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.8 = 0.508
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
