Denvernshire care (Mulburry Manor) seems to be more bothered with money rather than the residents. Hardly any improvements have been made to the home and any decorations have been provided by the staff and residents families. There is no where near enough staff to deal with the upper floor where the
residents are homed (dementia). They are rarely taken in to the garden, which has hardly any seating for the people that live there. When they do go outside there are hardly shaded areas. She pays nearly £1000 for her care and what she receives is disgusting. It's very basic and just covers the basic standard of living. Get up, fed and go to bed.

I am very sorry to hear the concerns you have raised. We have an open door policy here at Mulberry Manor and management are available to discuss any concerns you may have. The home has undergone many improvements since Devonshire Care took over with many more still planned. All residents spend time outside, including your Mum. Please ask to see the lovely photos we have on your next visit to the home. The home is correctly staffed, we use a dependency staffing tool to ensure this. We have a wide range of activities held within the home and recent outings such as a barge trip with afternoon tea. It would be lovely to be able sit and have a chat with you to show you all the wonderful things happening at Mulberry Manor.

Just like to give a huge thank you to one member of staff in partiuclar, she went above and beyond her job description in helping me to organise a new wheelchair for my sister in law who would of been bedbound without it. This staff member is a busy working mum who always has a smile on her face and
nothing is too much trouble, thanks you're a superstar.!!

I am always made to feel welcome when I come to visit my nan. My nan is always positive about the staff and they always are kind and caring. I met the new manger today and she was very warm and welcoming and even offered us a drink which was welcome due to the warm weather. My nan is very happy at Mulberry
Manor and I know she is well cared for.

I am so happy we chose this home for my husband. The team at Mulberry welcomed us all as a family and gave him an excellent home from home experience at what was a very difficult time. He was so ill, but the team worked wonders to make him as comfortable as possible, happy and get to know him. They
definitely knew what he liked - ice cream and crunchy nut cornflakes. There was so much respect in how they treated him and always respected his wishes, in a personalised approach to meet his needs. The home became part of my life, and made us part of the "Mulberry family". Always someone around who genuinely wanted to know how we were all doing, how we were and let me know what he had been up to. The staff have made Mulberry a home that is built on love, in a caring family-centred caring environment.

The standard of care and kindness when our mum was very ill was outstanding. She was treated with such love and care and as a family, we also felt very looked after. The management team and the carers helped us so much at the worst time of our lives and as a family, we will be forever grateful. The
staff are incredibly hard-working and are often working in very difficult circumstances.

Our first experience of finding a care home for a relative wasn't easy, however, we visited Mulberry Manor and found that just stepping inside the home felt friendly, a home from home. The room allocated was clean and fresh, and the cost was very reasonable compared to other homes. The staff at Mulberry
were there to assist in settling in. Staff were empathetic and courteous at all times. Staff encouraged residents to join in with activities, meeting and greeting others. All care needs were met. Staff were trained in the equipment used. We would definitely recommend Mulberry to others.

Excellent care, very attentive. Would highly recommend it. I looked around lots of care homes for my mum, and this one stood out for its friendliness and openness. You can visit at any time and still witness the high level of care. The gardens could do with a tidy, but I have been told this is getting
sorted next year. Don't be put off by the slightly run-down building. Mum seems very happy there, and they clearly care about her.

A decline in what was a wonderful care home. Over the last 12 months, I have seen a steady decline in the hygiene of the care home itself, there is rubbish, tyres and loads of cigarette ends to an extent I can't explain, it's not one or two it's hundreds and not exaggerating. There is a lack of stimulation
for residents and while there are good carers they seem to be left to their own devices and not following care guidelines. If I could move mum I would.

We take all feedback very seriously. My apologies that your experience is not what you hoped for. The care and well-being of our residents are always our principal priority. We are reviewing the situation with the external property, however, being winter this may have been a focus point for warmer months. We would like to offer you the opportunity to raise your concerns with the home manager, who may be able to provide more specific detail on activities programming that your loved one would feel was more suited to their needs and interests.

I have to say, unfortunately, this, what was a wonderful care home, does not in its current state reflect on the brochure images. It is so disappointing to see the decline. The outside areas are disgusting unkempt and unclean. There are old papers, tyres and cigarette debris everywhere, some of which
have been there for months. The furniture has been broken and unsafe again for months now. The activities for residents are either intermittent or none existent. Some of the staff are amazing, absolutely wonderful and take pride in their work, others/a few are just not interested. I really could go on. There just seems to be really low morale and not much in the way of inspiration and moving forward. I have in the past written wonderful reviews, I really hope I can again and very soon.

The room my husband is in is very depressing as the carpet is in a disgusting state. It is black with God only knows what, it shines! The cleaners have tried to clean, but it would not come clean and it's just getting worse. This flooring needs to be removed as it's unhygienic. The home itself needs
some upgrading, old wooden windows are ill-fitting are very drafty.
Reply from Lindsey Thawley, Home Manager at Mulberry Manor

We are aware of the situation with the carpet and have raised this concern several times with head office and have received quotes for the carpet to be replaced, we can only apologise for the delay in having the carpet replaced and will continue to raise this issue with head office.
With regards to the windows, this has also been raised however, we do not own the building and this is an issue we have raised several times with the landlord, again please accept my apologies we will continue to raise these concerns.
As previously discussed, we have offered an alternative room for the interim as this is the only option I am able to offer at my level, if you would like the room change to go ahead then please do not hesitate to contact me and will arrange this asap.

We wanted mum here because it was close to where I live.
She needed looking after and after a quick tour with the manager who said all the right things we opted for her move.
Within the first week, they lost her false teeth.
She then had cigarettes go missing.
Then caught community-acquired pneumonia
along with dehydration.
Most of the staff were helpful but we had friction with one with whom we lodged a complaint.
During the coronavirus problem visiting guidelines constantly changed to the point we didn’t know where we stood all the time.
This caused problems and all we wanted was to spend time with our mum.
Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer in August and we knew we needed to get her out or she would die alone.
We eventually moved her to another care home and got to spend the last month with my mum before she passed away.
So if you plan on wanting to see your family don’t place them in here.
We didn't find the care home very sympathetic to our position with Mum being at end of life.
Mum died with us there.
Reply from Lindsey Thawley, Home Manager at Mulberry Manor

Firstly, I would like to send my condolences on the passing of your mother, although I am pleased to hear that you got to spend some precious time with her before she passed. I would like to apologise that you felt we fell short of the level of care that we here, at Minster Care Group and Mulberry Manor expect, as I was not the Home Manager at the time during your mother's stay I am unable to comment further, however, if you would like to contact me at the home I would be happy to discuss your concerns further. Again please accept our apologies.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.473)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.473) out of 10 for Mulberry Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.655 for Mulberry Manor is calculated as follows: ( (99 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.655
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.818 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mulberry Manor is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.8 = 0.918
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
