Since my mother was admitted to Smallbrook care home she has received excellent attention and care.
The home is in extremely good order and the staff are overwhelmingly nice.
There is a lovely garden for the residents to enjoy as well.
Food is of a high standard and the entertainment for the residents
is very good.
The management team has always been very friendly and helpful when I have required assistance.

My dearest mum passed away at the beginning of June 2025 - she had been a resident of Smallbrook Care Home for nearly three years. I cannot fault the kindness and care that my mum received during her time at Smallbrook. She had a lovely spacious room and bathroom, and we were able to fill it with
all her favourite things. Mum took some time to settle in, but always said that she felt safe there. As she got to know different members of staff, she settled into her routine. The staff at Smallbrook, on every level, really try to fill the days with activities, music, arts and crafts, and daily exercise. There were also regular visits from outside entertainers. Birthdays were always celebrated with a huge birthday cake, homemade by the chef, and birthday balloons. Yearly events were always marked with some form of celebration. If you are looking for a home where all the staff are kind and caring and genuinely enjoy their work, I highly recommend Smallbrook.

Thank you for heart felt review and for trusting us with the care of your mum. It was a true privilege to care for her, and we are deeply touched to know our team was able to make a positive difference during her time with us. Your kind words mean so much to the team.

My Mother has been at Smallbrook Carehome for 4 years. When she first arrived she was welcomed and made to feel at home. As a family we felt confident with the care she received. Sadly due to a change in management for quite reasonable reasons things went downhill and a lot of staff left. There was
a lot of change which had a negative impact on my Mother particularly as she suffers from dementia. I decided to move her to be nearer to me but finding somewhere that would take her was not easy. Nearly 2 years ago a lady came as the new manager to Smallbrook with her deputy. They had a huge task ahead of them to get things back on an even keel. Through hard work and an amazing team behind them I believe they have really turned things around. I am so pleased I didn't move Mum. The care she receives is given with patience, dignity and love. All the staff are fabulous, thank you to the manager and deputy and your whole team for the patience, care, commitment and love you give to Mum. You are amazing!

Outstanding service carers that really care my mother is in later stages of Alzheimer's which has been an emotional rollercoaster for me but the staff at Smallbrook Care Home have given me so much emotional support and keep me updated at all times about how my mother is doing.
Living in Wales it was
essential to find the best care available for mum who's from Crawley.
I can't thank all the stall enough for the excellent care and compassion provided at Smallbrook from care assistants catering staff. Handy man, OT and management you couldn't find more genuine and dedicated people.
I would highly recommend Smallbrook care home and thank them from the bottom of my heart for giving so much warmth compassion and outstanding care to my mother and the amazing support given to relatives giving peace of mind knowing our relatives are safe and really cared for .

If you are looking for a care home for your loved one, I can’t recommend Smallbrook Care Home highly enough. The staff and service that was provided were outstanding. Living over 70 miles away, the care given to my dear Aunt was exemplary, and I had no need to worry that she wasn’t being looked after
in the way she deserved. Always kept up to date on how she was doing and when I visited, I was welcomed like a good friend. Every member of staff that I met was kind, courteous and understanding.
Thank you to all the amazing staff at Smallbrook Care Home, you’re all fabulous and do an amazing job.

I cannot thank you enough for the professional and compassionate care you provide for our father. When we visit we can observe the respectful and dignified care your staff provide to all residents. You are always smiling and I watch you all treat the residents and each other with respect. If I have
to come into care I would come to Smallbrook. I would not be scared. The food is amazing and my father would not have reached 94 years old without you!

Our dear mum spent a short time in Smallbrook at a very challenging time. Throughout her stay, all the staff, from management to caring staff, were wonderful. We were well informed about how Mum was each day when we visited, and staff were always on hand to answer any questions, and always eager to
help and make sure both Mum and us as a family were happy with everything. They're a very caring team, and we chose Smallbrook because I had received personal recommendations from friends with experience in their care. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them from our experience.

Mum has been at Smallbrook since June 2022. She took a while to settle as she felt she lost her independence- she is now settled. The staff are fantastic and allow Mum to be as independent as she wants to be. She loves the staff, and she says the meals are lovely - although she thinks she eats too much.
As we tell her, you don’t have to eat everything they offer you. They have entertainment recognising all the occasions throughout the year and plenty of activities that residents can choose to join in with if they choose. Keep up the good work, Smallbrook.

Hi Sally, thank you so much for your review. We are really happy to hear your Mum has settled in well and is enjoying her time with us. We know all too well how tricky it can be to resist the delicious treats on offer!
The entertainment and events are something we make a real effort with, and we are always keeping an eye out for things we can celebrate together at the home, so thank you for joining us for these.
Look forward to seeing you at Smallbrook again soon!
Thanks.

My brother has been a resident here since May 2022 and has always been very happy here. There are always activities going on and whilst he doesn’t choose to join in with everything, there are lots of things he enjoys, such as art, music, trips out to the local garden centre. Recently they had a Valentine's
Afternoon Tea with cakes and scones and music from a local country band. It was lovely. Lots of dancing and singing along, and delicious cakes. We thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and all the residents and staff who I saw seemed really happy.

A smaller establishment of 40-rooms, which is mainly on the ground floor and east for residents to navigate. Rooms are a good size, with en-suite facilities. There is a fenced garden that residents and visitors can use, weather permitting. A communal lounge with TV and music where staff conduct activities.
A small area off the lounge supplies coffee/tea etc for residents and their visitors to have a quiet chat in a bistro setting. All rooms have a TV. Staff are friendly and helpful and make a happy atmosphere in the home.

Thank you for your positive words. We are always looking for ways to improve, and we were surprised to hear that, in your opinion, we weren't meeting the highest possible standards for cleanliness, safety/security. Please rest assured that this has been raised with Management as a priority. During Covid-19 we've focused carefully on high standards of safety and cleanliness, and this has ensured that we have no active cases of Corona, but we're always open for improvement!

It was an incredibly difficult to make a decision to move a much loved relative into a care home. Smallbrook from the moment of enquiry and during the 1st visit, made the decision so much easier. The welcome, the atmosphere and lovely ambiance of Smallbrook have not faltered since my mother-in-law went
to live there in February 2020. As a family we can visit her anytime and find her looking happy, well presented and obviously well cared for. The cleanliness of her room and all the areas in the home are exemplary. Her clothes are beautifully laundered and put away. During COVID-19 lockdown we were unable to visit but received regular updates. Just recently we were able to socially distance visit in the garden for the first time in 12 weeks for 15 minutes. Being able to do this was so reassuring in these terrible times. My mother-in-law radiates the amazing care the staff have provided from the manger, the care workers and all the staff.

We moved our mother to Smallbrook due to the lack of resident entertainment/activities during the daytime at her previous care home. We believe Smallbrook do continue to provide good daytime activities. However, there remains room for improvement in this area. Generally, the restaurant offers a good
selection of quality and nutritious food. The size and furniture content of the room is spacious and of a good standard for the monthly cost. Finally, a special mention goes to all the staff that provide a good service.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.533)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.533) out of 10 for Smallbrook Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.633 for Smallbrook Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.633
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Smallbrook Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
