My father agreed to trial a stay at The Wickets after many years living abroad and several years of declining health. He received a warm welcome from everyone and within 24 hours commented: 'You never told me it was so nice!. Within 2 weeks he had decided to stay and had started to join in activities
with other residents. His nutrition and hydration, (which have caused me sleepless nights) have vastly improved with equally improved cognition, mood and social interaction. I've got my dad back, no matter what challenges and changes the future brings.

Pooja, Nikki and the rest of the team are fantastic. They take the time to listen to my concerns regarding my mothers health and then endever to put in place systems to make her as comfortable as possible. The activities are varied and plenty. The food is delicious and a good choice each day. The team
keep in regular contact regarding mums care plan with me. Any changes are discussed first. The Wickets is spotlessly clean at all times. So pleased my mum is living here.

Although I only visited The Wickets once, I was most impressed with it. The staff were very welcoming with coffee and cake, the environment was lovely; spacious, well appointed rooms but more importantly, the care given to my friend was excellent. I would recommend The Wickets to anyone needing a
care home.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I couldn't speak more highly of the Wickets Care Home. From the 1st moment of stepping in, the staff couldnt have been anymore welcoming.
Mum sadly only enjoyed 3 weeks there, but the support, care and love that the team gave to mum and us was 2nd to none. Mum was treated as a lady throughout her time
and us, as children were able to be her children. The care extended to us was exceptional. They made sure we were looked after in the same manner. Always there with coffee and cake and a big hug.
We truly couldn't recommend The Wickets highly enough.
I'll be popping back for coffee and cake and a hug as they'll always be a big part of my life now.
Thank you .

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband stayed at the Wickets for three weeks' respite, whilst I attended family events abroad. Everything about the stay was top notch. The facility, brand new, is beautiful and well-appointed. He said "it's like a luxury hotel with nice people there to help out and keep me safe!" The meals were
delicious and attractively served; cakes and hot drinks were available at all times. My husband enjoyed the activities, the opportunity to chat with staff and other residents and sitting out in the gardens. All questions were answered promptly and fully by staff and management, who were kind, caring, and friendly. Both my husband and I would be very happy to use The Wickets again for future care needs, temporary or longer term.

It has been so reassuring to see how well my mum has settled into the wickets in such a short space of time. From my perspective, it has been wonderful to see how well she has settled in and making friends from day one. This helps makes it easier for me to leave her as she seems so comfortable and at
ease in their new surroundings. The staff have been incredibly welcoming, friendly, and attentive whenever I visit, always taking the time to offer support and show genuine care. Their kindness and warm approach have clearly helped make the transition much easier and created an environment that feels safe and homely.

Exceptional!
Warm, welcoming, well trained professional staff. They have gone above and beyond to make our dad feel at home. They cater for his care needs, interact well with him and provide lots of activities to keep him stimulated.
The staff really helped us as a family, making the whole transition
process easier during a stressful time; with great communication throughout They have really helped dad settle in.
Facilities are outstanding, bedrooms and common areas are spacious and well laid out, The on site chef provides a good range of delicious, nutritious food which our dad enjoys.
Our dad is in good hands. We would highly recommend this care home.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.038)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.038) out of 10 for The Wickets is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for The Wickets is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.038 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Wickets is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 16 = 0.438
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have a master’s degree in microbiology and a level three in education and teaching. I also have an operations manager qualification. I joined Care UK in 2020, mainly because of its reputation.

As a relief manager, I provide support in the absence of a permanent home manager. In this role, you need to have strong leadership skills and be able to stay calm and multitask in challenging situations. The nature of our work also means it’s essential to have empathy and compassion.

I would say the most important aspect of my job is to provide homes with the support they need, so they are compliant and meet all the regulatory standards expected of them. My approach is to ensure teams feel empowered through good coaching and mentoring. I always feel incredibly proud when I see teams be the best they can be.

For me, knowing I’m doing a good job comes from seeing a happy home with happy residents, families and colleagues. One particular highlight was when I managed Carpathia Grange, which received an ‘outstanding’ rating for the ‘caring’ category in its last CQC inspection in 2024.

In my spare time, I love travelling and reading.
