Following hospital, my elderly brother spent two weeks at The Wickets prior to returning home. Our visiting experience was exceptional, as was the care and attention he received. Our overall impression was of high standards being met - in the quality of staff, accommodation, environment and atmosphere.
We were warmly welcomed, offered refreshment and homemade delicacies, then guided to my brother's room (his name on the door) and addressed by first name. The ensuite ground-floor room was spacious, well-appointed, sunny and allowed for some personal items. The bed, by the large window, overlooked garden and patio, giving considerable outside interest. Our feeling was of being in a safe and comfortable community. We noticed residents animatedly enjoying each-others company, happy using available facilities like the cafe, and table settings were nicely laid ready for the next meal. Notices displayed a range of activities being offered daily, encouraging interaction and exercise for those able. Staff sounded happy in their work and everything appeared organized and sparkling clean. Throughout, my brother was treated with respect, a number of health related and eating issues were successfully resolved by the experience staff, and in all, his stay seemed to us to have provided a much needed mental 'pick me up'.

I recently visited my brother in law at The Wickets and was exceedingly impressed by all that I encountered. With being fairly new, the care home is not only modern, but also equipped with all those things that aid quality of life for each resident regardless of their condition, and they are first class.
It was a pleasure to speak with some of the staff, who I concluded, had been chosen for their experience, reliability and attention to the individual needs of residents. Overall, a high-quality establishment with a community atmosphere and very caring employees.

When needing extra care for my elderly brother are settled for The Wickets Care Home. My brother has been at the home some while now and is very happy. Rooms are light, bright and spacious. Plenty of activities to occupy a person. We find the staff caring, encouraging and help. The staff check my brother
every half an hour and everything. The staff check my brother every half an hour and everything consumed is monitored. Those in charge have regular meetings and chats with family making sure everyone is happy.

My stepfather, S, has recently spent 2 weeks respite at The Wickets. My husband and I really enjoyed our holiday feeling confident through pre-meetings and visits to The Wickets that S would be comfortable and well looked after. Previous respite stays at another well regarded care home had not worked
well; he referred to his stay as being 'put in a prison'. He described his experience this time as 'enjoying time at a guest house'. He looks forward to returning later in the year...such a relief for us.

The Wickets is how care should be carried out, the personal and attentive care is second to none. All the staff were 'extra mile' people, and took time to make sure my farther in law was not only take care off, but was treated with respect. I was blown away by the standard to which The Wickets hold
themselves to. It would be hard to critisize anything about them in my opinion. Great job to all staff, from cleaners to chef and the lovely care gives 5*

The staff catered for all my dads needs from entertainment, medical and dietry also wether he wanted to join in or just left to seat quietly by himself with staff on standby if he was in need of anything. So I was happy to know he was in safe hands 24 hours a day.

The home manager and customer relations manager were very helping in driving to visit my sister who lives near Heathrow in order to tell her about The Wickets and assess if it was suitable for her and that she was suitable for it. They have been very friendly in helping her settle in and in dealing
with myself as her only living relative. The carers have all been helpful and tolerant. The food has been excellent!

My father agreed to trial a stay at The Wickets after many years living abroad and several years of declining health. He received a warm welcome from everyone and within 24 hours commented: 'You never told me it was so nice!. Within 2 weeks he had decided to stay and had started to join in activities
with other residents. His nutrition and hydration, (which have caused me sleepless nights) have vastly improved with equally improved cognition, mood and social interaction. I've got my dad back, no matter what challenges and changes the future brings.

Pooja, Nikki and the rest of the team are fantastic. They take the time to listen to my concerns regarding my mothers health and then endever to put in place systems to make her as comfortable as possible. The activities are varied and plenty. The food is delicious and a good choice each day. The team
keep in regular contact regarding mums care plan with me. Any changes are discussed first. The Wickets is spotlessly clean at all times. So pleased my mum is living here.

Although I only visited The Wickets once, I was most impressed with it. The staff were very welcoming with coffee and cake, the environment was lovely; spacious, well appointed rooms but more importantly, the care given to my friend was excellent. I would recommend The Wickets to anyone needing a

I couldn't speak more highly of the Wickets Care Home. From the 1st moment of stepping in, the staff couldnt have been anymore welcoming.
Mum sadly only enjoyed 3 weeks there, but the support, care and love that the team gave to mum and us was 2nd to none. Mum was treated as a lady throughout her time
and us, as children were able to be her children. The care extended to us was exceptional. They made sure we were looked after in the same manner. Always there with coffee and cake and a big hug.
We truly couldn't recommend The Wickets highly enough.
I'll be popping back for coffee and cake and a hug as they'll always be a big part of my life now.
Thank you .

My husband stayed at the Wickets for three weeks' respite, whilst I attended family events abroad. Everything about the stay was top notch. The facility, brand new, is beautiful and well-appointed. He said "it's like a luxury hotel with nice people there to help out and keep me safe!" The meals were
delicious and attractively served; cakes and hot drinks were available at all times. My husband enjoyed the activities, the opportunity to chat with staff and other residents and sitting out in the gardens. All questions were answered promptly and fully by staff and management, who were kind, caring, and friendly. Both my husband and I would be very happy to use The Wickets again for future care needs, temporary or longer term.

It has been so reassuring to see how well my mum has settled into the wickets in such a short space of time. From my perspective, it has been wonderful to see how well she has settled in and making friends from day one. This helps makes it easier for me to leave her as she seems so comfortable and at
ease in their new surroundings. The staff have been incredibly welcoming, friendly, and attentive whenever I visit, always taking the time to offer support and show genuine care. Their kindness and warm approach have clearly helped make the transition much easier and created an environment that feels safe and homely.

Exceptional!
Warm, welcoming, well trained professional staff. They have gone above and beyond to make our dad feel at home. They cater for his care needs, interact well with him and provide lots of activities to keep him stimulated.
The staff really helped us as a family, making the whole transition
process easier during a stressful time; with great communication throughout They have really helped dad settle in.
Facilities are outstanding, bedrooms and common areas are spacious and well laid out, The on site chef provides a good range of delicious, nutritious food which our dad enjoys.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.895)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.895) out of 10 for The Wickets is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.995 for The Wickets is calculated as follows: ( (190 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 191 Ratings = 4.995
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Wickets is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have a master’s degree in microbiology and a level three in education and teaching. I also have an operations manager qualification. I joined Care UK in 2020, mainly because of its reputation.

As a relief manager, I provide support in the absence of a permanent home manager. In this role, you need to have strong leadership skills and be able to stay calm and multitask in challenging situations. The nature of our work also means it’s essential to have empathy and compassion.

I would say the most important aspect of my job is to provide homes with the support they need, so they are compliant and meet all the regulatory standards expected of them. My approach is to ensure teams feel empowered through good coaching and mentoring. I always feel incredibly proud when I see teams be the best they can be.

For me, knowing I’m doing a good job comes from seeing a happy home with happy residents, families and colleagues. One particular highlight was when I managed Carpathia Grange, which received an ‘outstanding’ rating for the ‘caring’ category in its last CQC inspection in 2024.

In my spare time, I love travelling and reading.
