My Nan has recently passed away at Alton Manor Care Home. The Care she has received has been amazing. Every member of staff that I have met whilst she has been there has been very helpful and have put our mind at rest. In the final days of her life they made sure that she was treated with the utmost dignity and respect, the kindness and compassion that my Nan and the family was shown was amazing. The Manager and the Deputy went out of their way to ensure that staff kept the family up to date with information, which was always clear, concise and honest. On the day of her passing they made sure that family were invited to spend as much time as they could with my Nan and even allowed family members to remain with her till her passing, and after.

I would recommend Alton Manor to anyone looking for care. They are amazing.

My brother recently became a resident of Alton Manor Care Home following serious concerns for his safety at home. As a family, we urgently needed to find a care home with dementia and Alzheimer’s experience that had room for him at extremely short notice. We were so lucky to find that Alton Manor was able to help. Within half an hour of speaking to the Manager, we took our brother to meet with her and then to our relief and good fortune, she had a room for him that day. From the moment I stepped inside it was obvious that the manager’s warmth, enthusiasm and caring nature were reflected throughout the home. I have found all of the staff, irrespective of their role, to be friendly and, more importantly, extremely caring. My brother’s transition has not been at all smooth but the staff have persevered to ensure he has become both safe and settled. Alton Manor is a lively, happy care home which raises the spirits and I’m so pleased that my brother is with them.

I feel that Alton Manor Care Home has made real improvements since the new manager has been in place. I visit my Nan two or three times a week and she is always happy in her surroundings and tells me the care staff are like her family too. When visiting you are always welcomed with a smile by the staff and they are willing to answer questions or help in any way needed. They ensure my Nan is well hydrated and cater to her needs with her meals. The home provides events where family members can attend for example garden parties and Mother’s day gatherings. The staff have also supported my nan through the loss of her husband. As a family, we feel very happy with Alton Manor and the care they provide and happy my Nan is safe and looked after.

My mum was very scared and lonely at home on her own so it was such good timing that we found Alton Manor Care Home.
After only being there for 3/4 months she now has numerous friends to chat to and the staff have always got time to sit and have a chat and help with any worries she might have.
Mum is now eating well so looking and feeling so much better.

Thank you Alton Manor Care Home.

We made the very difficult decision to place Mum into care in September 2022. My first impressions were just ok. Then in came a new manager and she and her team have turned everything around for the better. The difference is there to see, caring staff who treat the residents like family. Music, flowers, better lighting all give an impression of a well-kept home. The manager is passionate about giving both the residents and the home itself a first-class service. For us and other families, total inclusion every step of the way in our loved one's care. The communication is excellent and there's always a member of the team to answer a concern. I would definitely recommend Alton Manor to anyone else.

My overall experience is positive. The carers and support staff are always welcoming and helpful to me. I do feel that my Dad is cared for. Whenever I have a question or need some help the response is positive. At Alton Manor Care Home they are actively looking to improve in all sorts of ways and they do this by including the residents and the family/representatives which is great for all concerned. I personally received a phone call recently from the deputy manager with concern about my Dad which was reassuring and I was and am very appreciative. I know that my Dad would like to go out more for walks, but he is not allowed to by himself for his own safety. He only gets out if I or family or a friend take him out which may not be regular. I think it would be good for his psychological and physical well-being, no doubt. Alton Manor is trying to resource this for a few times per week for the sole purpose of taking residents out who can and wish to go out. I really hope this happens for everyone.

On the whole, I am totally satisfied with the care and attention my husband gets. I have only given a four-star rating for care and support mainly because care staff can be lacking in the afternoon. With regard to food and drink, I have not seen what my husband eats but on request, he has had a sandwich when he has not eaten his lunch. Always plenty of juice. He has not been able to take part in any activities. The care staff have worked hard, a few more might help the workload. Though after Covid all care homes are lacking in staff.

My mother has been a resident here for over five years now. During this time, I have always had an active role in my mother's care. In the last few years, to its detriment, Alton Manor has seen a continuous change in management and staff. Saying that my mother has always been well cared for and remains happy. However, the last four to five months have seen a new manager instated, who brings a whole new dynamic to Alton Manor. Not only has the care home come alive, the residents have too! It's obvious the manager really does understand residents' needs and how to bring out the best in them. The staff are amazing, warm and welcoming and always have a smile. It's evident that they have taken time to get to know each resident individually, their likes and dislikes and are providing warm, friendly and personalised care to each and everyone. The manager and her team have moved mountains in the last few months! Keep up the good work! It's a pleasure to visit and feel part of the Alton Manor family.

My uncle was placed in this home. He was there for three weeks. It’s the worst experience he has ever had and at 91, I am saddened by the lack of care he received. On entry, he was left sitting in a chair between 1 pm and 5 pm. He should have been taken to his room and isolated. His room was a box room of the worst kind. It took six days for them to sort his TV. He had a CDiff flare up and it took them six days to get his antibiotics despite me complaining. He has Fortisip as he has problems swallowing. They didn’t supply those until the day he left.
So three weeks without adequate nutrition and medication. He said he was hungry. Only one shower during his stay. His toilet wasn’t cleaned despite him having CDiff. His clothes were washed only once during his stay. His bed sheets were changed once.

Numerous problems with the manager. SS had to put safeguards in place. CQC involved. My uncle left on 31 August. I picked him up, he was dirty and smelt. He was in a fragile state. Avoid this home.

Reply from Emma Ellis, Manager at Alton Manor Care Home

This review is extremely biased and not necessarily true. The room was chosen by the family. The service user was not left sitting for four hours. Upon arrival, he was welcomed into the Home and shown to his room. As for Fortisip drinks, these were last prescribed to the service user approximately...

My very independent mother had to give up her flat as she had numerous falls. She has settled in so well at Alton Manor - in fact, she thinks she is staying at a 5-star hotel. I put this down to the kind, caring attitude of the staff - everyone I have met so far has just been super. I attribute this to the Marton; she runs the home beautifully, and it filters down to all the staff. Mum is precious, and I'm so relieved that she is now safe and happy.

This review is based purely on visits to my relative and taking her out for a few hours, on a fortnightly basis. Therefore, I cannot comment on the day to day running of the establishment. However, my relative seems to be very happy and settled. The staff met have been very good and do look after my relative. The only criticism I have been made aware of is the food supplied is not varied a great deal and the portions have been on the small side.

My mother has been living at Alton Manor for over five years and is happy and settled. Alton Manor is a smaller care home that manages to give excellent care while making it feel like a true home and community. All the staff are friendly, caring and helpful and are always around the residents ready to help. I saw my mother for the first time after lockdown and she looked so happy and well, it is such a comfort to know that she has been so well cared for and protected throughout these difficult times. I keep thanking all the staff, I just hope they do know how much I appreciate them and all they do for Mum.

I would like to comment specifically on how well Alton Manor Care Home has dealt with the Coronavirus. They locked down very early on and this has kept the residents safe and well. We obviously have not been able to visit until now (4th August) when arrangements the home has put in place for controlled visits by families to see their loved ones after the long isolation period fully reflect on the effective way we have found the care home to be run, i.e. caring, efficient and effective.
Our enquiries over this difficult period have always been answered quickly and fully and have provided great reassurance that my mother was in the safest place possible in the circumstances.

In the 6 months leading up to the lockdown we had seen a marked improvement in the general running, appearance and general atmosphere of the home and remain very happy with the choice of Alton Manor.

I find Alton Manor Care Home to be well run, the residents seem happy and the staff are efficient and helpful. My mother always looks well cared for and is content despite her ongoing medical issues. Other members of the family agree that we were very fortunate to have found such an ideal care home and I would certainly recommend Alton Manor to others. There is a nice relaxed atmosphere and the staff work hard in what could be a challenging environment with kindness and respect towards the residents, nothing is too much trouble.
