Acacia Nursing Home offers residential, nursing and dementia accommodation in separate units, with nursing and personal care.

Staff understand that most people would prefer to stay at home if they could and they believe their job is to make the care home as much like staying at home as possible.

At the very least they encourage residents to put up pictures and ornaments, or even bring some items of furniture to add to their new rooms. Staff will gladly remove furniture provided to make space.

The home offers three dining rooms and restaurant-level meals which can be altered to suit special dietary requirements. There are also three lounges and three gardens.

Acacia Nursing Home provides residents with a busy activities programme, including trips to the seaside or to town in a fully adapted minibus.

Reviews

9.6 Acacia Nursing Home has a Review Score of 9.6 (9.629)

The Review Score of 9.6 (maximum of 10) for Acacia Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 11 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Acacia Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.629 for Acacia Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (45 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.629

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acacia Nursing Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 8.2 positive Reviews (41 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 8.2 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My wife has been a resident at the Acacia Nursing Home for 2 weeks now. A difficult period in which to settle having to overcome the many changes of routine, compared to living at home, and the freedom and independence that home living has to offer. However, we have found a friendly atmosphere at this home both from the staff and also the residents.

It is easy to socialise here and there is plenty of opportunity during the day to do so. Some part of each day, morning and afternoon, has formal activities, such as communal games and singing, painting and the arts. There are visiting artisans, offering various additional entertainments several times per week. Visitors are very welcome to join in if they wish and I have experienced some very enjoyable afternoons in the company of those present.

Living in care can be difficult but happiness will overcome this and 'Acacia' is a happy home.

Many thanks for your lovely review of our home.

Acacia stood out as the right place for my mum for a number of reasons.
The manager and staff I met when I popped in really listened, understood and cared deeply.
I felt they had a lot of experience with dementia care and could be trusted to keep my mum safe and do the very best for her.
The accommodation is bright and airy, clean and welcoming.
Lots of thought has been given to the presentation of both the interior and exterior space.
Lots of time, care and attention are given to the residents and there is a lovely positive atmosphere.

Thank you very much for your lovely review of our home.

I would like to thank all members of staff who cared for my mother over the last two years. She was looked after with respect and affection. There was always time for staff members to have a chat with her, and the kitchen staff did their very best to please her with meals, often cooking (or fetching) something especially for her. I live abroad but communication with Acacia was easy thanks to emails.

Her room at Acacia became her universe and I am very grateful to you all that she was able to live contentedly until her recent death.

Shirley Turner, Home Administrator at Acacia Nursing Home responded to this review on 26 Jul 2017:

Thank you so much for your lovely review of Acacia and your mum will always be remembered fondly here.

My father has been a resident since April 2017 and we cannot speak more highly of the care, love and attention he has received from the Manager and her team.
He has a nice en-suite room, with a small balcony looking out onto the gardens, and a TV. He enjoys his food, which is varied and wholesome. The activities organised by the team are excellent, including: singalongs, quizzes, outings, pet visits, exercise sessions, tea dances, cream tea afternoons, "pie and a pint" afternoon for Fathers' Day, parachute games, art and craft afternoons and puzzle afternoons.
The staff are so friendly, and lots of fun, and they put the needs of the residents first. All the residents are treated with dignity and are encouraged to take part in activities, if they want to.
The enclosed courtyard has been in use recently, now that the weather is so nice. There is even a coffee/tea machine and fresh cakes in the lobby for family members coming in to visit straight from work, who need some refreshments!

Acacia Care Home is providing my mother with a safe, friendly and inviting environment. She is cared for with respect, taking into account her needs and wishes. The nursing staff are professional and very vigilant. The food is very good and catering staff take the needs of individuals very seriously. When the impact of all the recent, excellent changes have been felt I am sure that I will be choosing that I would be extremely likely to recommend Acacia Care Home.

The home has improved vastly over the last few months. My mother is well looked after - she is clean, tidy and properly dressed. The home is also clean and tidy and does not smell. The food seems to be of good quality - especially the cakes and biscuits! The staff are caring and considerate. I am happy with the standard of care my mother receives at Acacia Nursing Home.

Since Camelot Care took over the nursing home, it has improved considerably. It has been renovated and decorated so it is beautifully clean. The staff are happy and not looking for other jobs and there is no agency staff. We now have a reception area with a receptionist and two activity coordinators instead of one as well as a lovely manager. My mother also seems much happier.

My husband became a resident at Acacia Nursing Home in November 2015. At that time, it was known as a different home and run by a different care provider.
Five months ago the home was taken over by Camelot Care and renamed Acacia. In the last five months, a great many changes have been made. The directors had a vision which is being realigned.
The building has been beautifully developed, giving a very high standard of accommodation, both for individual residents and common areas. The dining area has been much improved and there are different lounges to suit different needs. The staff work with sensitivity and cheerful efficiency. The atmosphere is very special as a result of their combined efforts. I am very grateful.

This is a very well run care home. The staff were very well trained, helpful and treated my mother with kindness and consideration. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The laundry department was the only area which seemed to not function very well. Overall highly recommended.
