The home Activities coordinator Kelly was amazing organising the children to come and play games on a one to one basis with the residents

The home Had some lovely games to play and the children interacted with each and everyone of the residents
Bringing back great memories of there children/Grandchildren ,

For anyone looking for accomodation for their loved ones CHESTNUT LODGE is the perfect place
My brother lived at Chestnut Lodge for three years before his passing in May 2025.
His time there was so happy, he was well cared for and treated like family, as was I when visiting.
When he became ill he
was looked after with such care and attention, even though he could be difficult at times. Their support after his passing was second to none.
The manager (Graham) and his wonderful team
treated every resident with respect and attention even when they were run off their feet.
My brother absolutely loved being at Chestnut Lodge, he called it home. The catering was excellent (he loved his food)
Bedrooms and comunial areaswere always clean and tidy, the housekeeping team team making sure that residents had clean laundry and bedding, Very important to me
The activities team always made sure that the residents had an enjoyable and varied program. So much laughter so much
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank June for your lovely comments. Les was a lovely man, very popular with staff and other residents. We do try to include relatives into the Chestnut family, so I am pleased you felt that. I will pass on your comments to the team. I am particularly pleased that you praised our Domestic Team who do so much good work to make our residents lives better. Thank you.

Warm & welcoming staff on arrival. Helpful & enthusiastic. Nothing was to much trouble. My Uncle looked amazingly well. He was happy & upbeat and said he is happy within the establishment. We were brought teas & biscuits during our visit. Overall a feel good factor around and other residents appeared
to be happy.
We, as a family felt comfortable throughout our visit.
Reply from Sarah McCaffrey, Deputy Manager at Butterfly LodgeThank you so much for your lovely review, we will share your comments with the team

Chestnut lodge are always very accommodating when I'm looking for respite care for my step MIL with dementia.
They meet her needs and keep us updated regularly.
Very happy with the care provided by all staff and management at Chestnut Lodge.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank you for your kind words. It has been a pleasure looking Yvonne, initially for day care and then for respite breaks. We keep one bed for respite stays so that we can support carers looking after loved ones.

The staff appear to be very caring towards residents. The food is good quality but sometimes not very warm by the time it is served. Activities provided are varied and interesting for residents to join in with if they want to. There were some issues with the lift breaking down which took a long time
to resolve but presumably this was down to the contractors and having to wait for spare parts. This was potentially an issue for residents on upper floors if they were unable to use the stairs to access some activities etc.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank you for your review. It was our pleasure to look after Tom. We have recently appointed a highly experienced Chef and the feedback from residents and other relatives is that food service has improved. I shared your concerns about the reliability of the lift and am pleased to say a brand new lift was fitted before Christmas. We have also purchased a lift climbing chair in the unlikely event our new lift breaks down.

I can't thank the staff at Chestnut Lodge care home enough for the care, kindness and respect they showed my father. He has been a resident there for around two years and from the very beginning the team made him feel safe, comfortable and truly valued.
My father was too ill for me to look after him.
Since he's been a resident at Chestnut Lodge, he has gone from eating liquid food to solid foods. During Chinese New Year, the staff had decorated his room to celebrate with him. They also make Chinese food for him on occasions.
The staff are not only professional but genuinely compassionate, attentive and willing to go the extra mile. The home itself is warm, clean and welcoming, creating a lovely environment for residents.
Knowing that my dad is surrounded by people who treat him with respect and kindness gave my family a real peace of mind. Our family are incredibly grateful for everything and would recommend Chestnut Lodge to any family looking for a supportive care home.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank you Lucy for your review. It has been interesting looking after your father, with different challenges to our other residents but also a pleasure. Thank you for your kind words which I will share with the whole team, particularly the 5 Activity staff who were excellent with the Chinee New Year. Thank you Graham

After many years of looking after my wife with daily care workers four times a day, Lydia went into respite and her life changed for the better. So much so that when a place opened in Chestnut Lodge she stayed on and has improved incredibly where even with dementia she is active with a wonderful Activities
team who encourage her to join in the physical activities.
It is such a blessing to know how dedicated the care home staff are and they are willing to listen to the concerns of myself as Lydia's loved one, when any problems do happen to crop up. And what a blessing that I can share a Lunch with Lydia because I can eat with her when on my Sunday visit.
It gives me such peace of mind to knew she is well looked after and a great joy to send the pictures of Lydia around the world to our many friends in Canada, South Africa, Russia and Australia. Thank You all at Chestnut Lodge.
Les
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeDear Les Thank you for your review. Your wife adds something special to our home so we are lucky she is here. I know she enjoys getting up to mischief with all 5 of our Activity staff. I'm glad you continue to enjoy your Sunday lunch with her - our new Chef is exceptional. Thanks for your kind words.

My mum spent the last couple of months at Chestnut lodge before she sadly passed away last May. The care she received by the nursing staff and carers was excellent. Mums room was light and airy and she was looked after and cared for well. They made the last few weeks of mums life as comfortable as
possible and did all they could to accommodate her needs. The team also supported us as a family to deal with the very sad and difficult time that it is losing someone so precious to us. We are really grateful to them and highly recommend.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeDear Maria Thank you for your kind words, particularly about the Chestnut Lodge team - I know they will appreciate them. Your mum was lovely and it was a pleasure caring for her and getting to know your family.

My Mum needed nursing care now her dementia was more advanced so we chose Chestnut Lodge and we couldn't have chosen better! The staff were absolutely amazing not just with Mum but with us too - very informative with updates on Mum at every visit (we visited most days) and also over the phone. They
were all very friendly and welcoming to all Mum's visitors! All the residents are so very well looked after and nothing is missed - the food and activities also fantastic! We had looked at other care homes but this one totally outweighed all the others from the minute we stepped through the door we knew instantly! All the staff treat residents as family - it was so lovely to see! I TOTALLY recommend Chestnut Lodge and it gives me so much comfort knowing that my Mum spent her final days with the very best care from the very best people in the most wonderful care home! I cannot thank them enough!
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank you so much for your kind words. It was a pleasure caring for your mum alongside the love you and your sisters gave her. I will pass on your comments to the staff team. Thank you

Not completely happy with a few niggles, such as lost items, no communication as to them being looked for - reported back in September 2025 and have asked several times and no further on.
Room also not clean (floor) and without some essentials, and mum left late into morning on bed.
Reply from Tamsin Forde, Registered Manager at Avalon Nursing HomeI'm very sorry that you have had a few concerns with missing items and cleanliness of your Mum's room. I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you again so we can review your Mum's care and support in more detail.

Would just like to say what a wonderful nursing home this is
I don't visit very often but when I do I'm always made to feel so welcome
Everyone goes above and beyond in this home
Always happy to help
I feel that my mother in-law is very cared for and very happy in this home
I would like to
say that my mother in-law was at another home that was not like this
They care and they understand what families are going through and most of all what residents need
Thank you

This is a review for my nan, who has been at Butterfly Lodge for over 12 months. After having to remove her from another care home, Butterfly Lodge has completely restored our faith.
A care home is truly about the carers and staff, and everything I have seen since my nan became a resident has been
nothing but kindness and genuine care. There are always lots of activities, residents are treated with dignity and warmth, and everyone looks well cared for and well presented.
I can't thank Butterfly Lodge staff enough for the love and care they have shown my nan - it gives our family real peace of mind knowing she is safe, happy, and respected.

Mum was at Camelot House for 6 years and I cannot speak highly enough of the home. The care she received in that time was excellent. All the staff are very caring and kind. When visiting I was always greeted with a smile and hello from all the staff. We were kept informed of changes and concerns.
Mum
passed away in November 2025, she was treated with dignity and respect. The care and kindness received by not only mum also my sisters and myself in her last few days was above and beyond. Thank you to all the staff.
I would recommend Camelot House and Lodge to anyone looking for a care home for their loved ones.
