Review of Deer Park Nursing Home from Kirsty L (Daughter of Resident) published on 26 June 2026 Submitted via Website

Dad moved to Deer Park in March following a short period of respite there. He has settled really well. The staff have all been very friendly and welcoming both to him and to us when we visit. They seem to really know the residents. Dad has received excellent care and really eats well - a great indication considering his appetite had been waning when he was at home. It is a lovely environment - Dad particularly likes the conservatory! Activities appear to be great. Shortly after Dad's arrival it was his 80th birthday. We had a small family party in one of the rooms at Deer Park and were provided with lovely food and a fantastic cake! Dad has a lovely, large, light room and seems to enjoy spending time there.

Reply from Suzanne Evans, Registered Manager at Deer Park Nursing Home

Thank you Kirsty for such a lovely review, we're so pleased to hear the birthday celebration was memorable for you all and that dad is settled. I'm glad he enjoys the activities and we certainly enjoy having his company too! Thanks again for the lovely feedback.

My experience was of a calm, pleasant workforce who were welcoming to me. Ians care was as good as its possible to be. Thanks were expressed whenever I could do so. I have no complaints about this home but wish there were more native English speaking staff - maybe in the future? Caring should be a profession.

Reply from James Marchant, Operations Manager at Camelot House and Lodge

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review, it is much appreciated. Our colleagues from other countries are a very valued part of the team and have a good standard of English, and undertake training and receive the same support as everyone else. We do make every effort to recruit locally and, in common with other providers, this can be challenging.

My husband died in Camelot after a 4 1/2 year residency. I was always confident that he was safe and comfortable. I believe that he was comfortable in their care also. Mostly residents were treated with great kindness and respect which was important to me. They also treated me well on my visits and respected our privacy. I am very pleased that I chose Camelot for him in preference to 2 other local homes.

Reply from James Marchant, Operations Manager at Camelot House and Lodge

Thankyou for writing a review and your kind words. I will ensure that this is passed onto the team. It means a lot to us that you felt your husband was comfortable at the home and that you were treated kindly when you visited.

Christine was looked after with compassion during the 4 months she resided at Deer Park. She had many medical needs during this time and they were dealt with competently. I was regularly contacted, particularly after she had some falls. During her final days we were kept up to date with her condition and she was kept as comfortable as possible during that time. Thanks to all staff for your care and compassion.

My first experience of a care home was not good but within hours of my husband being admitted to Camelot House and Lodge I was reassured. Camelot staff undertook the transfer and it was done wtih efficiency and kindness. Everyone who opened a door did so with a smile and a cheery hello, anyone I passed in a corridor did the same. There's a lovely big, bright lounge, doors to the garden. My husband's room was a good size. The food was a high standard, plenty of it. I was always offered drinks, food if I wanted it. My husband could be a challenge but the staff always treated him with patience, respect and good humour. In his final hours my daughter and I felt wrapped around with care and kindness, hugs when his life was over. Camelot Lodge is a lovely care home. We will always remember our time with them with affection.

Thank you for your compassion & professionalism. My mother's final two years were spent at Chestnut Lodge, where she was treated with gentle support & dignity. Her wishes were followed and as visiting relatives we were all welcomed as part of her new family. All the staff are exceptional, but the nurses had detailed knowledge of my mother's daily life, health, happiness & needs.

Camelot House is not the grandest or smartest care home, but it is comfortable and prices reflect this. Rooms are cosy, to residents tastes and it is always warm. The standout heroes are the staff, many of whom are longstanding. They demonstrate kindness, patience and professionalism, with good humour, in often difficult circumstances.

Amazing staff that provide excellent day to day care. Friendly, supportive and encouraging.
Recently experienced a choking incident which was handled compassionately and professionally, providing support to resident and family. Staff stayed afterwards to provide reassurance after the event which was so welcomed at the time.

Lovely environment with a lovely team whoever is on duty.

Overall Experience
After weeks of queries being not dealt with about missing items and safeguarding issues there was little or no communication.
We had to prompt staff to contact doctors for mum on two occasions.
On our insistence She was finally admitted to hospital in a very poor state of health in January. We took the decision that mum could not return to Avalon. She remains in hospital and has sadly not returned to her baseline.
Her decline over the past few months has been quite frightening.
The management seem indifferent to mums current situation or the incidents leading up to this point. They do not appear to want to address any issues raised and have shown no interest in how mum is doing since being admitted to hospital.

The receptionists and care staff are friendly and helpful but despite this I would not recommend this home.

For anyone looking for accomodation for their loved ones CHESTNUT LODGE is the perfect place
My brother lived at Chestnut Lodge for three years before his passing in May 2025.
His time there was so happy, he was well cared for and treated like family, as was I when visiting.
When he became ill he was looked after with such care and attention, even though he could be difficult at times. Their support after his passing was second to none.
The manager (Graham) and his wonderful team
treated every resident with respect and attention even when they were run off their feet.
My brother absolutely loved being at Chestnut Lodge, he called it home. The catering was excellent (he loved his food)
Bedrooms and comunial areaswere always clean and tidy, the housekeeping team team making sure that residents had clean laundry and bedding, Very important to me

The activities team always made sure that the residents had an enjoyable and varied program. So much laughter so much

Warm & welcoming staff on arrival. Helpful & enthusiastic. Nothing was to much trouble. My Uncle looked amazingly well. He was happy & upbeat and said he is happy within the establishment. We were brought teas & biscuits during our visit. Overall a feel good factor around and other residents appeared to be happy.

We, as a family felt comfortable throughout our visit.

The staff appear to be very caring towards residents. The food is good quality but sometimes not very warm by the time it is served. Activities provided are varied and interesting for residents to join in with if they want to. There were some issues with the lift breaking down which took a long time to resolve but presumably this was down to the contractors and having to wait for spare parts. This was potentially an issue for residents on upper floors if they were unable to use the stairs to access some activities etc.

It was our pleasure to look after Tom.
We have recently appointed a highly experienced Chef and the feedback from residents and other relatives is that food service has improved.

I can't thank the staff at Chestnut Lodge care home enough for the care, kindness and respect they showed my father. He has been a resident there for around two years and from the very beginning the team made him feel safe, comfortable and truly valued.
My father was too ill for me to look after him. Since he's been a resident at Chestnut Lodge, he has gone from eating liquid food to solid foods. During Chinese New Year, the staff had decorated his room to celebrate with him. They also make Chinese food for him on occasions.
The staff are not only professional but genuinely compassionate, attentive and willing to go the extra mile. The home itself is warm, clean and welcoming, creating a lovely environment for residents.

Knowing that my dad is surrounded by people who treat him with respect and kindness gave my family a real peace of mind. Our family are incredibly grateful for everything and would recommend Chestnut Lodge to any family looking for a supportive care home.

After many years of looking after my wife with daily care workers four times a day, Lydia went into respite and her life changed for the better. So much so that when a place opened in Chestnut Lodge she stayed on and has improved incredibly where even with dementia she is active with a wonderful Activities team who encourage her to join in the physical activities.
It is such a blessing to know how dedicated the care home staff are and they are willing to listen to the concerns of myself as Lydia's loved one, when any problems do happen to crop up. And what a blessing that I can share a Lunch with Lydia because I can eat with her when on my Sunday visit.
It gives me such peace of mind to knew she is well looked after and a great joy to send the pictures of Lydia around the world to our many friends in Canada, South Africa, Russia and Australia. Thank You all at Chestnut Lodge.
