I was more than happy with mum moving to Butterfly Lodge. I knew staff previously which was one of the reasons i was happy. The fact the staff were still in place spoke volumes. The layout the cleanliness all played a part. The staff were attentive and happy to answer any questions. I was updated
about care when needed, I was made to feel welcome. When mum passed the support I was given was touching. They came and embraced me whilst others attended to mum.
She wasn't just a resident, she was cared for, for who she was and will hold the home in high esteem.
I will leave top marks because of how I found the home to deserve.

My sister-in-law came to Butterfly Lodge April last year from a Care Home due to many falls and has been so well cared for since arriving. She has 24/7 nursing care which is outstanding, her carers have/are the best you could wish for and ALL the staff from from management to the rest of the wonderful
crew can't be faulted. Would highly recommend this lovely Home to anyone looking to have a family member who needs nursing care.

I cannot thank the whole Butterfly team enough for their amazing care, professionalism, and outstanding approach to residents and their families.
Mum had been a resident at a previous care home, which did not cater for her needs, and it gave me great concern about moving her. From day one my concerns
were no longer with regard to how she was cared for and treated.
Every member of the team treated her with respect, and great care. Mum was medically looked after which is obviously essential, but the wider picture of keeping her spirts up, treating her like a member of the family, made the difficult situation of a loved one needing care, much better than expected.
Mum loved the activities and the opportunities to get out and about. She was happy, and enjoyed lots of singing and dancing, which was incredible given the circumstances that the dementia created for her. Seeing her smiling, enjoying herself was very precious. Cannot recommend enough. Fantastic team and words are not enough.

My mother Joan became a resident at Butterfly Lodge on December 8th 25.
Her care has been fantastic in all areas with lovely friendly staff that always seem to go the extra mile to ensure her comfort and safety.
They are all very inclusive with singing or together watching a film.
My mum loves to
go out when she can and they do regular trips to the memory cafe nearby. In a mini bus.

After being placed in a nursing home chosen by the NHS after a stay in hospital ; fast tracked as "end of life" , Mum had a miserable stay in a totally unsuitable and uncaring nursing home where she was going downhill fast.We were so lucky to find Butterfly Lodge had a vacancy 6 months ago and the
change in Mum has been totally amazing! She is now moving around (quite often without her frame) and giving the staff the run around . She has put on weight and she has now got rid of the constant cough that she had! She is eating things that she would never have eaten before ( although she is very fussy) ,and she joins in the games and many events that are on in the lounge. On her 98th birthday she was taken out to the memory cafe where she spent the morning dancing. The turnaround in her well-being has been unbelievable and is all thanks to the caring and lovely staff who are always ready with a smile and a hug.She is still under "end of life" but she is now in the best possible place.
Reply from Clare Sinclair, Manager at Butterfly LodgeThankyou Nikki for your lovely review it is certainly great to see your mum doing so well.

Mum moved to Deer Park at the end of December 2025.
She has been welcomed warmly and is cared for by a friendly happy team of great carers and nurses who understand mum and have the experience and ability to care for her.
Other members of the family have been to visit had have remarked that the
atmosphere at Deer Park is happy and friendly, inviting, clean and bright with some fantastic light elements, the staff are kind and are happy to help- tea is always available :)
Reply from Suzanne Evans, Registered Manager at Deer Park Nursing HomeThank you so much for your lovely feedback.
It was a big step for your Mum to move to Deer Park, so I'm pleased she's settled in well. She's such a lovely lady, and a pleasure to care for.

It's good to hear that you are all pleased with the friendly, welcoming atmosphere - the team enjoys making everyone feel at home and we'll keep the tea flowing!

Deer Park Nursing Home

from Chris L (Son of Resident) published on 19 January 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My 99 year old Mum was the first resident to arrive at Deer Park when it recently reopened. As the only resident she was treated like royalty and as more and more residents arrive she continues to receive the same wonderful care and, when required, nursing. From the very beginning when Mum was being
considered for discharge from North Devon Hospital I was constantly contacting Sue, the manager at DP, to see if they were ready to take new residents. The responses were always prompt and very reassuring and thankfully we got a call to say that DP were ready to welcome her.
It's a worrying time for family but the whole team whether it be Sue or Nic (admin) or any of the nursing or care team have removed almost all of those concerns as we know she is safe, warm and extremely well cared for. One other aspect worthy of mention is the food. The quality and variety of meals offered is exceptional, it all just adds to the knowledge that my Mum couldn't be in a better place.
Reply from Suzanne Evans, Registered Manager at Deer Park Nursing HomeThank you so much, Chris, for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and generous review.

It was a true honour for us that your Mum was the very first resident to join us when Deer Park reopened under Camelot Care , and she will always hold a very special place in the home. She is such a lovely lady and a delight to care for.

We understand it's a worrying time and so it really means a lot to us to know that the team has helped put your mind at ease. Your kind words will be shared with them all - they will be very proud.

We are also delighted that you have been pleased with the quality of care and meals your Mum receives - I shall pass it on to the kitchen!. Knowing that she feels safe, comfortable, and well cared for is our greatest priority.

Thank you again for your trust and for your lovely feedback.

Warmest regards,
Sue

Where do I start when I have so much to say about the wonderful care my Mum receives in Butterfly Lodge? The staff are amazing, so caring, knowledgeable and so well trained, their expertise is invaluable when you are struggling with a loved one's journey with Dementia, they bring us as a family, comfort,
support and professionalism on difficult days. It's such a beautiful place when you walk in, with plenty of smiles, cheery welcomes and an abundance of support. The catering staff go above and beyond in supporting my mums very picky food choices and try everything to support that. Mums room is kept clean and presentable. The Activity staff are very friendly and come up with the most fantastic ideas at times, always something going on, plus the bonus of trips out in the minibus to the memory cafe, Mums favourite shop, or even just a drive to the waterfront or the Moors. I love the open door policy with the management and nursing team. Thank you for loving our mum as much as we do

Butterfly Lodge has been absolutely outstanding for my grandad. From the moment he arrived, the level of care has been exceptional. Every member of staff is attentive, kind, and genuinely engaged with him and other residents. The activities are engaging and grandad loves these.

This is not a place

where people simply "do a job." The staff truly care and consistently go above and beyond to make sure every resident feels valued, safe, and happy. I have never seen my grandad laugh, sing and smile as much as he does now. He has genuinely found a new lease on life since living here, and that means the world to our family.

Butterfly lodge is a place that truly cares for its residents, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

As a member of the Chestnut Lodge family I have felt valued and respected as an individual. The activities have been varied and deserve a special mention. The range and
extent and the thought that goes into them is what makes it better than any other home. I feel lucky to have a place here.

My darling wife has suffered with steady decline as the dementia took hold over 7 years but in January of this year I watched my wife fall 4times in 3 days as well as developing double incontinence ! I looked for help quickly and by sheer chance we ended up at this lovely place. I cannot speak more
highly of this place, the care they have given my wife being kind, interested in her previous abilities so as to organise something to assist, as well as the care of the nurses & carers took a great weight off my mind. I come everyday for the morning from 7 to 12 and I have seen more than most partners probably would normally see and I must stress that this gives me great comfort . I can only be very thankful to them all including the wonderful domestic staff who are forever watchful and assisting and the chefs and helpers who turn out very healthy food as well as good looking quality meals.
