I have been a resident in Chestnut Lodge for just over 6 months and I have received excellent care. The staff are warm and friendly. As a member of the Chestnut Lodge family I have felt valued and respected as an individual. The activities have been varied and deserve a special mention. The range and
extent and the thought that goes into them is what makes it better than any other home. I feel lucky to have a place here.

Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut Lodge

Thank you for reviewing our service.I am pleased to see you describe the care as "excellent" and that all your comments are so positive. Thank you for giving a special mention to the Activity Team - we recognise how important they are which is why we are expanding it even further, so that our residents can lead as full and happy lives as possible. Finally can I thank you for the time you have spent improving our courtyard garden. It really is a lovely place to sit on these sunny days.

My darling wife has suffered with steady decline as the dementia took hold over 7 years but in January of this year I watched my wife fall 4times in 3 days as well as developing double incontinence ! I looked for help quickly and by sheer chance we ended up at this lovely place. I cannot speak more
highly of this place, the care they have given my wife being kind, interested in her previous abilities so as to organise something to assist, as well as the care of the nurses & carers took a great weight off my mind. I come everyday for the morning from 7 to 12 and I have seen more than most partners probably would normally see and I must stress that this gives me great comfort . I can only be very thankful to them all including the wonderful domestic staff who are forever watchful and assisting and the chefs and helpers who turn out very healthy food as well as good looking quality meals.

My Aunt has been at the home for over a year and the care she has received has been excellent. She was struggling to cope at home and as I do not live near her, I couldn't help on a regular basis. When I first visited her she appeared the most relaxed I have seen her for several years. The staff are
tremendous and treat her like a family member.
She tells me the food is good and all the meals I've seen looked really tasty.
I worried she might get bored but the entertainers work hard. I never thought I would see her dancing as part of a Silent Disco!
A big thank you to all the staff, especially to the management team who answer my long distance concerns.

Reply from Zillah Oakes, Registered Manager at Camelot House and Lodge

Thank you for your lovely review. At Camelot we believe that we are one big family and we are happy that your aunt is part of it. I must agree that our chef does a great job, personally I am a fan of the midweek roast. The silent disco is a firm favourite of the residents. It will be my pleasure to pass you thanks on to the team.

I am very pleased by the attention that all the staff at this care home give my wife. The nurses are very attentive and she enjoys chatting with them. She has her favourites amongst the care staff but they all take the time to chat with her. The same goes for the activity assistants and cleaners. She
is very restricted physically as what she can do but she seems to enjoy her days which is all I can ask for. Being a vegetarian she was worried that the variety of food she would be offered would be limited but they have met her requirements very successfully. Overall she is well looked after and happy.

Reply from Zillah Oakes, Registered Manager at Camelot House and Lodge

It is a pleasure to look after your wife. It is lovely to hear that the whole team take time to chat with her and not just the carers. Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I am happy to discuss any ideas for improvement when you next visit.

The staff at Chestnut Lodge have been amazing with my Mum who's had to go into full care. Mum suffers with dementia and it has been a difficult decision, but knowing Mum is well looked after has made the process easier. They run lovely activities and try to engage everyone in the home to join in creating
a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Thank you for your kind words. Our Activities Team is a key part of our residents care - that's why we are going to expand it to 4 !Your Mum did come to us previously for Short Term Stays and this meant that when the time came her admission was far easier for her, having existing positive relationships with our staff.

I/We cannot fault the efforts of staff to welcome my dad and make him feel at home there were a few occasions when we questioned his care (sat in bed at 11.30 with no bedding and just a lightweight blanket covering him and no pants) but it was rectified. Also feel more attention to him complaining of
a full bladder could have been addressed all minor points.

Thank you for your review.Losing a parent is always a difficult time. Your father was only with us for 10 days but I know you visited him on most of them. Unfortunately on one occasion we did not meet our own high standards. Staff had offered him care twice, but he declined. I spoke to them at the time to guide them going forward.I am pleased that we did achieve our normal high standards for the rest of his stay and his passing.

It gives me great pleasure to write a glowing review of the care mum has received at Camelot. All staff were, kind, helpful, engaged and friendly. Not just mum, but from what I observed every resident (and many of them had more issues that just dementia) was treated with dignity understanding and humour.
Contact with and from the home was good too. Thank you.

My Father was a resident at Chestnut Lodge for almost a year before he sadly passed away in February. When he moved in, in March 2024 he had already been in 2 other care homes, neither of which he had been able to settle in. From the very first day that my father moved in to Chestnut Lodge, the manager
reassured our family that they could take care of him and that he would, given time settle in. These were such incredible words of reassurance at a very difficult time for us all. The manager was right and my father did after a few months settle in very well. The staff had taken the time to understand him and this made such a difference. The care team were wonderful and my father developed lovely relationships with a number of them. Towards the end of his life my father was treated with excellent care, kindness and respect. Our family were shown such compassion and understanding and time was always made to answer any questions that we had. Thank you to the manager and your wonderful team for everything.

My father was a resident at Chestnut Lodge from March 2024 until his death in February 2024. Throughout his time here he was treated with respect and understanding, and the care he was shown, often in challenging circumstances due to his worsening dementia, was exemplary. My family and I were very regular
visitors - between us we were there around 4 times a week, often more - and we got to know the wonderful carers and nursing staff well, and were able to observe first-hand the care he was given. The highly experienced senior management team inspired confidence, and showed great compassion throughout his stay. We are hugely grateful for the care and professionalism shown by the wonderful team there, who go above and beyond, in challenging circumstances, to look after the residents.
