The decision to move our mum into a nursing home was very difficult for our family, but from the very first visit to view Chestnut Lodge, we knew we had found the right home where she would be taken care of. We were immediately told not to worry and that they would take care of our mum, and from then
onwards the whole team at Chestnut Lodge provided the most unbelievable love, care and support not only to my mum, but to our entire family. From the amazing carers to the excellent nursing staff and the thoughtful and considerate management team they showed such a high level of care that we all felt looked after and part of their family and we can never thank them enough. We cannot speak highly enough about the entire Chestnut Lodge family and would not hesitate to recommend them.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank you so much for your kind words that I have passed on to the team. It was a pleasure looking after your mother and getting to know your family. I am pleased we were able to support you all.

Chestnut Lodge is a very efficient and organised nursing home. The staff have given my wife every respect and dignity during her 11 months at the home. The well trained staff have also been of great help to me during very difficult times which is greatly appreciated.
I would definitely recommend this
nursing home.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank you for your review. It has been and remains a pleasure caring for your wife. You are both part of the Chestnut family.

A big thank you for organising such a wonderful birthday celebration for my mother and for making her and the family feel so special.
It's comforting to know that she is in safe hands when we can't be with her as we live so far away.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank you for your review. We always aim to make our residents' lives as happy as they can be and having her family around her for her birthday was an opportunity to do that. She is a special lady and deserves such a happy day.

Visited my grandmother for her birthday the staff was so friendly allowing us to use the lounge privately for celebrations for the family. Tea and coffee were supplied to use and popping in to check we were ok.
Staff were always engaging with Nan so lovely to see her happy here.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank you for your feedback which is always welcome. It was clear that your Nan enjoyed her birthday, especially as some family members had traveled long distances to be with her. We enjoy looking after her and look forward to future visits from all your family & friends.

The first time I walked into Chestnut Lodge. I knew it was a special place. I had a warm welcome from the staff and they were helpful. Always offered a cup of tea. No questions seem too silly to ask. Given time to look around. Wow, it's a beautiful clean home. The food looked delicious. Just where you
need your loved ones to be cared for with care love fun and dignity.

Such kind, caring staff who genuinely care. Staff always ready to listen and reassure family. Good-sized rooms. I have seen many homes in my professional career and Chestnut Lodge is the only one I would recommend and also be happy to have a relative in. Fully supported through the end-of-life process.
Thank you so much.

I found Chestnut Lodge Care Home to be the most loving and caring home whilst my husband resided there. I couldn't fault in any way. The staff were wonderful, caring and showed tenderness and love to all the residents whilst doing a very exhausting job and I applaud them. We could not do without them.

Chestnut Lodge cared for my Dad for the last six months of his life as his mobility and memory declined. He became a resident shortly after it opened in April 2023 as his needs could no longer be met by his previous home.
I found the manager and deputy manager to be very experienced and the nursing
and other staff genuinely caring and attentive. When I was not able to visit, they kept me regularly informed. The building, rooms and facilities are high quality.
I am very grateful for the care my Dad received and would recommend this home to any other families whose loved one requires a similar level of care.

My wife entered the lodge with Parkinson's disease and dementia. From the start she was treated with the utmost kindness by all the staff. Her eating and drinking was problematic and every effort was made to entice her to have snacks rather than set meals. She remained content and cared for till the
very end.

I have been struggling to care for my wife. Within 24 hours of contacting Chestnut Lodge, initially for respite, she was a resident, but I think permanent care. The short time she has been there, I cannot fault the staff or the facilities.

When I was told that my Grandad was going into a home I was worried as I knew he wouldn't want to do it. I thought he might be sad, missing his family and especially his wife, but Chestnut Lodge has been a revelation. They really look after him and care. Far from being sad he has settled in and appears
brighter and happier than he has been for ages. I put off visiting him for a few weeks, but when I did I was surprised by how nice it was - and it didn't smell. The food looks good and he is putting on weight. He has a nice room including his own shower. The staff also try to entertain all the residents, including trips to the pub next door! Sadly, it's getting harder to talk to my grandad about things that are going on, he used to be really interested in current affairs, but he is happy in his new home. It would be wrong to name any particular member of staff as they are all good. If you are faced with finding a home for a loved one then I recommend you look round Chestnut Lodge.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeThank you for your review. It is a pleasure looking after your grandad - he regularly makes us all laugh. I am pleased you have not singled out an individual in our team as they are all a credit to our home. Thank you. Home Manager.

My wife moved into Chestnut Lodge Care Home for the last few weeks of her life and I cannot speak too highly of the personal care and compassion that was shown to her from the day of arrival to the day of her death. She was looked after as an individual person, with kindness and consideration 24 hours
a day from the top down, by the manager and each and every one of her individual nursing staff and carers and also by the chef who catered for her special requirements.
During her final days, I was allowed to stay with her, night and day, and when I could not be with her temporarily for any reason, someone sat with her so she was never alone. All her medical needs were managed superbly throughout to ensure she did not suffer.
Entering Chestnut Lodge as a resident or a relative is to join a caring, welcoming family home. I could not have wished for a better place for her to be for the final chapter of her life. I just wish she could have been there earlier.
Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut LodgeIt was a pleasure and privilege to welcome both your wife and yourself into our home. Whilst you both only had a short time with us, we tried to ensure that everything ran as smoothly as possible. I have shared your comments with the team and I know they really appreciated your words.
We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.786)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.786) out of 10 for Chestnut Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.786 for Chestnut Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (275 Excellents x 5) + (59 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 341 Ratings = 4.786
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chestnut Lodge is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
