Rose Lodge Care Home in Halifax has over 107 dedicated rooms for residents, providing a comfortable and relaxing home which caters for older people and those living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, other mental health issues or the after-effects of a stroke.

The home has a purpose-built garden area for residents to enjoy, with a flat patio area and a raised flowerbed with aromatic plants.

Qualified staff provide the highest quality of care and can speak a variety of languages (English, Romanian and Urdu).

Two permanent cooks prepare fresh food for all diets and specialist requirements, alternating the menu and giving residents a range of options to choose from. To keep residents active and entertained, the home also provide a range of activities, including arts and crafts, a book club, film club, armchair aerobics and lots of games and puzzles.

Close to local bus routes and located within a short distance of both Calderdale and Halifax, residents can make the most of local shops and attractions.

This review is difficult for me to write but we as a family feel that it's necessary to show our gratitude to the staff and to express our opinions on the home for the benefit of other people in similar situations to the one that we found ourselves in.


My Grammy had late stage dementia and we chose

Rose Lodge as her home when she left the hospital. She spent the last stages of her life in the nursing suites and the care that she received from the staff went far above what we could of ever asked for. They didn't just care for my Grammy, they loved her and they even had the time to care for us as well. From brushing her hair and putting on classic FM so she wasn't left in a silent room, to bringing us cups of tea and offering us meals when we were there for hours on end in the last few days that she was with us.


We didn't make it when my Grammy decided it was time to leave but the manager held her hand with respect and gave her the dignity that she deserved while she took her last breath.

My mum has been at Summerfield House for 12 months. There have been many changes most of them necessary. However, credit where credit is due, the necessary changes have had a positive impact on my mother's care needs. The standard of care has improved a lot. Well done.

No problems. Staff appear caring and plenty in attendance. Home is clean, no smell, well decorated. Plenty of snacks and drinks around. We are notified of any issues promptly. My auntie had an issue recently and the ambulance was called immediately. (Unfortunately, Auntie now deceased.)

After being told my grandma would be moved for end-of-life care, we were not holding out much hope, and to be honest, didn't know what to expect.
However, my grandma has totally turned a corner and, although she is 93, is back sitting up in bed talking about her great-grandchildren and asking to see
photos of all the family.
It seems like the medication she is on has been sorted and has had a really positive effect. And for this, we are really grateful.
We hope my grandma continues to thrive and be happy here, so thank you.

Arrived to find my sister-in-law with her carer in the dining room (I assume having had her breakfast) - her dementia means we get (meaningful information) she was wheeled to her room, where we spent an hour - she was initially withdrawn, but soon became more alert and seemed very content. Her carer
returned twice to make sure all was well (it was), and we always find the care staff willing, cheerful and capable.
The boxes I've left unticked are because "I don't know".

My sister was up, washed and dressed when my husband and I arrived. Whilst in her room, several staff popped in for various reviews. She seemed quite content and well cared for. When we were ready to leave, a member of staff was available to look after us. Not able to answer all the ratings.

Mum is very well cared for. The home is very clean and bright. It's been newly decorated and looks very smart. There are lots of activities on offer, and the food is generous and varied. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

I believe that Summerfield House is doing a good job in caring for my mother. I am particularly impressed with the staff, who all appear cheerful and attentive. However, I think my mother has deteriorated (dementia) over the last six months, I would hope that extra care would now be incorporated with
dressing and hygiene as required. All in all very pleased.

My mum has been a resident at Summerfield House for only a short time, and in that time, she has really settled and told us a number of times that she loves it! The staff and management have been warm, welcoming and always happy to have a chat. I feel my mum is supported to a high standard; she is treated
with dignity and respect. In a short time, she has bonded and built trust with the staff, as they are kind, caring and encouraging! For what could have been a very difficult transition, it's been a huge relief how happy my mum is here, and that's because of Summerfield House.

My mother now seems very settled. She likes her room with the view of the garden. The garden is easily accessible when I visit so we can have half an hour or more out there if the weather permits. She can make her own way to the dining room, lounge or reception. This is a huge bonus as it does keep
her moving and not dependant on her wheelchair. She says that the food is excellent. The new decorations in the communal areas look very good and overall there is a relaxed atmosphere.

Over the last four and a half years I have been regularly (apart from lockdown) visiting. Every time I have been welcomed with smiles and acknowledgement from all the staff. They have acted on anything I have concerns about e.g. declining mental health and declining general health. Full praise to receptionists,
cleaners, care staff, nurses and anybody else who I may have forgotten.

My mum lived at Summerfield House for three and a half years until she passed away in August.
The manager and all the staff always showed care and compassion towards Mum, even when her behaviour became challenging. They were always there, ready with a smile to try to work something out and this was
hugely appreciated.
The past 18 months will undoubtedly have been hugely challenging for the team, but the care they offered has never faltered. Even at the beginning of Covid they were quick to help sort arrangements out to bring Mum back to Summerfield from hospital to be looked after in isolation.
A wonderful place full of wonderful people.

Mum was resident at Summerfield House for just under four years until September 2019, including a short time in palliative care. Total kindness, care, love, patience and dedication was shown throughout by all management and staff. She was made to feel comfortable and at home, enjoying good food, personal
extras (hairdresser, chiropody and optician) and the home organised regular activities to add variety and interaction for residents. This level of care was wonderful, not only for Mum but also for us (her daughters) to know she was comfortable but also for peace of mind she was being fully cared for, kept warm and clean, which she herself greatly appreciated.
This year the home organised a wonderful 100th birthday celebration, giving us lasting memories of a really special day. Similarly, a very special level of care and consideration was shown during her time in palliative care.
Summerfield House is truly a home from home and a credit to the staff and the way it is run. Thank you!
