Mum was resident at Summerfield House for just under four years until September 2019, including a short time in palliative care. Total kindness, care, love, patience and dedication was shown throughout by all management and staff. She was made to feel comfortable and at home, enjoying good food, personal extras (hairdresser, chiropody and optician) and the home organised regular activities to add variety and interaction for residents. This level of care was wonderful, not only for Mum but also for us (her daughters) to know she was comfortable but also for peace of mind she was being fully cared for, kept warm and clean, which she herself greatly appreciated.
This year the home organised a wonderful 100th birthday celebration, giving us lasting memories of a really special day. Similarly, a very special level of care and consideration was shown during her time in palliative care.

Summerfield House is truly a home from home and a credit to the staff and the way it is run. Thank you!

Today, two residents celebrated their birthdays.
A 99th and a 100th. The staff made everyone, including my mum, feel pampered and special in preparing them for the day's celebrations.
Lovely outfits were chosen, makeup lovingly applied, squirts of perfume... Special activities were running all day, with cakes and favourite tipples.

At Summerfield, residents aren't just treated as individuals. They are treated as beloved individuals.

My Mum has lived at Summerfield now for 18 months and during that time I have nothing but praise for management, carers, domestic staff, cooks, the lovely girls on reception and the activities coordinators, who have been so caring and supportive towards both my Mum and myself. Any concerns have always been addressed promptly and I am confident that I have chosen the best possible home, which is equipped to meet all her needs. Summerfield is a vibrant home and is a credit to all the staff who work there.

My Dad has been a resident at Summerfield House for over 4 years, he feels totally at ease and comfortable and calls it home. The staff and management are excellent at recognising and attending to my Dad's needs, they are also very welcoming to family members and friends at any time of day.
They go above and beyond planning and organising activities for residents and family members, examples include various parties throughout the year, involving residents in the planting and growing of fruit and vegetables, which are then used by kitchen staff to prepare varied and nutritious meals and inviting local school children to participate in activities with residents (there are too many to mention).

It is a very anxious and upsetting time when deciding whether a family member should go into a nursing home. The staff and management made this transition easier and less stressful for my Dad and our family. We would, without hesitation, recommend Summerfield House.

Summerfield House is a very good care home that provides a high standard of care. My Mum is well looked after and the staff treat her kindly. I feel welcome when I visit and can talk to the staff if I have any questions.
The activities at the home for the residents are particularly well done. My Mum does not really take part but they create a nice active atmosphere. In recent weeks there has been cooking, singing, cheese tasting, quizzes, a pub night in the new bar room and religious sessions for those who want this. There are also chickens and rabbits in the garden and gardening for residents too.
The rooms are lovely and the freshly cooked food is good too.

The only thing I can think of that could make things better would be to have more staff as they are very busy.

My sister was in the care of Summerfield house, both in dementia care and nursing care and subsequently died there, throughout the four years she was there, I never during that time ever saw any aspect of her care that would prompt me to ever have reason to complain or bring to the attention of the staff or management any issues with her treatment, the level of care was exemplary.

My sister-in-law passed away on the 11th of September after being at Summerfield for several years, on both the dementia floor and then later on the nursing floor. I found all aspects of her care extremely professional, respectful and caring in spite of her being difficult at times due to her dementia. The home exudes a pleasant atmosphere from the minute you press the buzzer to enter, all the staff are extremely friendly but maintaining that professional approach. The decor is homely and comforting, the grounds are well kept and the introduction of the chickens and rabbits is a pleasing addition which the residents appear to appreciate. My sister-in-law's room was always clean and tidy and she always appeared comfortable in her bed. I would not hesitate to recommend Summerfield to others.

The manager and his team show how a care home should be run, professionally, efficiently, compassionately and with a great understanding of residents' and relatives' needs.

I am pleased with the care my mother receives at Summerfield. The home is well run and I find the staff to be caring and friendly. I am sure this is due to excellent standards of management at the home. They are open and accessible at all times.

After looking around quite a few homes for my Mum, I decided on Summerfield, the management that met us, and showed us around, and explained everything to us was very informative and answered all our questions. Mum went onto the residential floor, the staff looked after my Mum with lots of care and compassion. Mum then had to be moved to the nursing floor, she was treated with, again, lots of support and compassion to the end.

Summerfield provided the perfect home for my mother-in-law who had been in a hospital for 8 weeks and was discharged there for palliative care.
The room was clean and comfortable - both for my mother-in-law and also for family members.
From the outset, all the staff were excellent - providing sensitive care and expertise.
The staff checked into the room at least every half hour ensuring my mother-in-law was okay.
I could see genuine care by all the staff for my mother-in-law and also other residents in Summerfield.
The staff did their absolute best to make my mother-in-law comfortable and pain-free, they kept her clean and readjusted her position to take pressure off her bed sores.
They continued to encourage her to eat and drink despite the fact that she wasn't interested.

The local GP was also very good - she visited and reviewed the medication prescribed by the hospital before making amendments to the medication package and setting my mother-in-law on an end of life pathway.

From my mother going into Summerfield House, we knew that we had made the right decision. It's very distressing having to put your mother in a nursing home but everyone that we came into contact with was so helpful and nothing too much trouble.
Her room was clean and very pleasant, the food was good but most of all a very caring staff. Unfortunately, she passed away two weeks ago but during her final hours when we had a break she was never left alone which was a great comfort to us.

Again from the cleaners to the top thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

My mother was initially resident on the Residents wing of the Care home however as her condition worsened she was accepted onto the Dementia floor. Mum was well looked after and treated with dignity during the two and a half years she was resident until her death at the home in October 2016.

It would have been appreciated by the family, however, if a representative of the Care home could have attended my mother's funeral so we could express our appreciation personally.

My dad has been in this care home just over a year now after a long period in hospital. He was very anxious and upset by the move but has settled in very well thanks to the wonderfully friendly and supportive staff. Every visit I attend they are all always willing to help and nothing is too much trouble from any of them. The staff are always willing to listen and take on board any concerns. They look after the residents as if they were family members/loved ones (which is a stark contrast to some of the homes that I have visited) There is a lot of care and support for the residents (and their families as they have been very supportive towards me when things have not been easy) The facilities are always clean and tidy. My dad's room is always immaculate and clean. My dad is always clean and presented well, clean shaven, hair done, nails clipped and clean clothing. When residents do spill food/drinks or have accidents they are very swiftly taken to be cleaned up.

My mother moved into Summerfield House as nursing care, she was 90 years old at the time. Throughout the 11 1/2 months, she was at the home my family and I were very satisfied and delighted in how she was looked after. The staff and management were helpful at all times and looked after her with great care and attention. She passed away on the 26th January 2017 at the age of 91 1/2, peacefully. Our thanks go to everyone involved.

From the moment my father came to live at the home, he was made to feel very welcome and part of the family. What was a very difficult time for him was made so much easier by the wonderful staff. Their professionalism and nurturing care shone through. My father has complex care needs and these are met daily on every level by the excellent, well-trained team of nursing and care staff. The staff also keep me well informed of his care needs, which gives us as a family peace of mind. All of the staff treat the service users with absolute respect and dignity and nothing is too much for them to do. You are made to feel welcome the minute you arrive at the home and they like to get to know the service user and all about them to familiarise themselves with the service users likes and dislikes. There are a variety of additional services provided and service users are encouraged to participate in social activities. I would highly recommend this home and all of the staff working there.
