Before mum moved to Fairfield House in Chickerell, Weymouth, we were invited to have a look around to see if it was the right place for her.

I cannot rate Fairfield House highly enough and we were impressed with what we saw.

My mother was resident there in end of life care for just 2 weeks. During that time, mum was well looked after as was anyone visiting her. Dad was also welcome to have his meals there if he wanted.

Moving to Fairfield House from hospital seemed to give mum a boost and she was very happy there even though it was for a short time.

There are lots of day to day activities going on, there is a lovely garden with chicken and geese and pets are also allowed on site.

The facilities were always spotlessly clean and nothing was too much trouble for the staff from the laundry to the chefs, from the activities co-ordinator to the nursing staff.

The compassion showed to us when mum passed away was exceptional and we were able to stay with her for as long as we wanted

Absolutely incredible.
The facilities are modern, clean and work as intended. The carers show such genuine warmth and care for the residents - way beyond anything we experienced in any of the other settings my Mum was in - and the standard of care is very, very high.
The manager, deputy manager & clinical lead have a wealth of experience, knowledge and wisdom. My Mum was in a difficult situation with complex needs, and they constantly assessed, reassessed and adapted as her situation changed ensuring she was best looked after at all times. They were in regular contact with all external services (Weldmar, GP, etc) and knew exactly who to contact from these and any other professionals. They did so efficiently, effectively, and were able to pass on that care to Mum.

As a family we were astonished by the level of support they were not only able to offer my Mum, but to us too, as a distressed family. We will never forget their kindness, wisdom, and expertise. Top of their game. Outstanding

We felt as a family extremely lucky to get our beloved sister/mother/grandmother a room at Fairfield for what we knew would be the last weeks of her life. I have nothing but praise for them all and especially some individuals who went beyond what we ever imagined. Their personal attention to us all was a huge help in what was such an incredibly sad and difficult time for us. I cannot thank them all enough -from the wonderful cleaners, cooks, carers, nurses, and managers- forgive me if I've left any staff members out- It takes a certain kind of person to be able to cope with this job and you've got the balance so right- so I simply have nothing but huge admiration and gratitude for you all. You were all caring, sensitive, efficient, and always professional- and made us able to cope better as we went through the great sadness and challenges we faced. My heartfelt thanks to you ALL.

My family and I were so relieved when mum was accepted for a place at Fairfield. We visited prior to her move from the hospital and were immediately impressed with the positive interactions between the staff and residents, and also the facilities. Mum has now been at Fairfield for five months and we are so happy with the care she receives, she is treated with dignity and her needs are met with compassion. There are regular planned activities, which mum enjoys, and a lovely garden for the residents to enjoy. The food is freshly cooked and well balanced. There is effective communication with the family; we are kept informed about any medical issues by the doctor who visits weekly, and any other issues are discussed with us by the managers or the nursing team. It is so good to know that mum is now in a safe environment, being cared for by friendly and attentive staff. I would highly recommend .

My Mum moved into Fairfield nearly 2 years ago. It was a difficult decision after trying several care homes in Dorset. They were not equipped to deal with my Mums needs. All changed when Fairfield was able to provide the best possible healthcare which she required. She has been given the care that she needs and all the staff makes the whole family feel very welcome, especially my Dad who visits everyday.

Dad moved into Fairfield after spending two months in hospital. He was diagnosed with complex medical needs requiring 24/7 care. From the outset the staff at Fairfield went above and beyond their regular duties to ensure that my father was cared for with the utmost care and attention. Even prior to moving we found the Manager extremely helpful in assisting with the transition from hospital to the care home, ensuring that a full assessment of his medical needs was undertaken prior to admission and giving particular attention to the transition. This was a very worrying time for the family and we were reassured by the kindness and support shown by not only the manager but the entire medical and caring team.
Dad has settled well into Fairfield and we remain really impressed by the high levels of care, the quality of the food and the cleaniness of his room.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Fairfield Care Home to those in search of an outstanding care provider.

Dad moved to Fairfield after a bad experience at another local care home. The level of care provided at Fairfield is second to none and his safety and security has been st the forefront of every conversation. We have visited Dad on a fortnightly basis over the past few months and have left happy every time.

Thank you Sharon and the team!! Amazing job.

Mum moved into Fairfield at the end of May 25 after 2 months in hospital. As a family we immediately felt she would like Fairfield, be comfortable in her room and it met her nursing needs very well. From day 1 management and staff were so friendly with Mum and attentive to us as a family which we appreciated. It was obvious to us that she was happy there and was treated with dignity and compassion which is so important. Unfortunately and unexpectedly she became ill early in July 25 but was able to remain at Fairfield to be cared for and kept comfortable during her last few days until she died. Certainly our experience of Fairfield albeit brief was very positive and we say a big 'thank you' to all involved in her care.

My dad was in the care home for 3 weeks until he passed away. In these 3 weeks my dad was looked after amazingly. We visited every other day and every visit the staff were friendly and made us feel welcome and relaxed.
All staff both day and night were supportive and caring to both my dad and the family.
They always kept us informed on everything that was happening.
I would like to thank them for all they did and making my dad comfortable and giving us support throughout.

A great team and they should all be very proud of what they do.

When I visit Mum, I always find the staff calm and helpful.
Mum has been at Fairfield for 4 months now, and every visit I find her happy and settled. I find the home clean, good food, and it looks like the staff work as a team and nothing is too much trouble.

The other nice thing I've noted is that all the staff sit with residents and talk and spend time with them.

My dad stayed at Fairfield over the Christmas period, he was admitted for emergency respite. The home manager went above and beyond to facilitate Dad’s stay, at very short notice. Dad appeared very content and happy, the staff spent time talking to him and offering reassurance. The food smelt wonderful and Dad always appeared to clear his plate, I would highly recommend Fairfield the manager and her team.

Lovely home from home. Mum went to Fairfield for a week over Christmas and stayed in one of their new en-suite bedrooms. The staff were attentive welcoming and friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them and showed genuine respect for the elderly. Special mention of the experienced carers there and from the first day made mum feel welcomed, special and safe. The only downside for me was cosmetically in that the older part of the building on the ground floor lounge and dining area was tired with furniture well worn and both rooms in need of a total refurbishment which I understand is planned for this year. Other than that this home is a real find providing that friendly homely feel with high standards of cleanliness and care. It’s because of the superb staff who work there and who genuinely really care about their residents - you can sense the happy atmosphere when you first walk in which is important to live in that sort of environment to lift your day!

Reply from Claire Douglas, TBC at Fairfield House

I appreciate your honesty regarding the older part of the building, we do have plans to totally refurbish the communal areas this year and upgrade the furniture. It was lovely for Mum to stay and have the opportunity to spend quality time with you over Christmas. I will forward your kind words to all the staff.

We had the need to use the wonderful services on offer, at Fairfield, during Christmas week 2023. My Dad has dementia and we needed a few days respite for him, the staff and management were incredible, both caring and understanding to our family and our father's needs, Dad was well cared for, comfortable and given privacy and was supported with anything he needed. The staff were friendly, we had great reports of the food and dad enjoyed the outside space for supervised fresh air, his room was comfortable, and had a homely aesthetic, a very nice and safe wet room and comfortable accommodation. From a family point of view, visiting was no trouble, staff were happy to escort us to him and very accommodating. The location was easy to find and on a main transport route, the home itself was impeccably clean and neat. If we need to use respite services again, we won't hesitate to use Fairfield. Thanks a million for supporting the family in our time of need and taking care of our Dad.
