Ernstell House in Plymouth has been an absolute blessing for my Dad. From the moment he arrived, the warmth the kindness shown by every member of staff have given me such peace of mind. The team truly treat residents with dignity, patience and genuine compassion, and it shows in the way my dad smiles
more, engages more and feels safe. The home itself is always clean, calm and welcoming, and there is a real sense of community. Staff take the time to understand each resident as an individual and keep families involved and reassured every step of the way. Knowing my dad is cared for by people who go above and beyond every day means more than words can say. I am so grateful to the entire team at Ernstall House for the love, respect and comfort they give him. They really do make it feel like home.
5 Stars wholeheartedly.

An excellent nursing home that surpasses expectations.

Excellent qualified staff on each shift 24/7.

Well led, bespoke service where the resident is always put first. A rare find but a jewel in the crown.

Lovely to see family included in decision making as well as the resident.

Well done

to the whole team from floor up.

My dad has been at Ernstell for approx 1 year now. He is well looked after and treated with dignity. Staff are lovely with him. The accomodation itself is very nice. Good choice of meals. Some good activities organised to keep him stimulated if he wants to take part. Families are kept up to date and
included with the activities. Generally we are happy with dad being cared for at Ernstell.

The staff and the environment are welcoming and professional. Mum's needs are met and she is very well looked after, which gives me peace of mind knowing she's in good hands. This is a happy place for residents, with lots of effort put into entertainment and daily activities to support various needs.
The entire team are positive, supportive, compassionate and open to feedback from visitors. The App is particularly useful as it allows me to see how Mum is doing on days when I'm unable to visit. My Father visits daily to spend time with Mum, and it's a credit to the team that he is treated so well during his visits. I feel that the team, the entertainment and the positive atmosphere are a huge benefit to him, even when he's not a resident. Well done Ernstell House.

Overall, really good/excellent, but no one is perfect! I would say more training needs to be given to recently appointed staff, as whilst trying their best, overlook fundamental processes.

All staff are polite and say hello and the quality and of care is excellent, once everything has been understood.

Reply from Keren Wilkinson, Chief Executive Officer at Ernstell House Nursing HomeThank you for much for your review, we do have a robust induction and training program for all new staff as well as ongoing training for our established team members; however, some of our new members need more support, so we will certainly take note of your comments to make further improvements. I am pleased that you are pleased with the care that your brother is receiving overall and I will be sure to pass your comments onto our team.

The atmosphere is always warm, welcoming, and nothing is ever too much trouble. The home is always clean. The entertainment team, I love their energy and enthusiasm. Dad is very content. Usually looks well. Regular trips to the barbers on site. Clean-shaven. I am overall very, very happy with his care
and would highly recommend.

My dad's end of life care was exceptional. All staff were kind, gentle, respectful, not only to dad but to me and my family. I'm only sorry dad was with them for a short time. Their knowledge and training in full blown dementia is exemplary and they should be rewarded for their activity schedule. Amazing
for what remaining cognition the residents enjoyed. If you wanted any further endorsement, I would do it in an instance. Whilst not the cheapest care home, money does actually become irrelevant when you know your loved one is in expertly caring hands. Well done, I will miss you.

My wife has been at Ernstell House Nursing Home for a month now. It takes time for dementia patients to settle into a new place, but the staff have really done a great job to help her. They give her a lot of love, which in her other home was neglected so much. This gives me less pressure and no worries.
All the nurses are so kind to my wife, making sure that she is comfortable all the time.

Surprisingly less unsettling than I imagined. The home was very clean, tidy and bright. Plenty of light and air. My friend's room was decent, although lack of fresh air was very noticeable. Her carers were outstanding. I understand the home company only pays the carers minimum wage and we are not happy
with this; living wage with bonuses for performance should be introduced. We definitely did not like the crowded dining room at meal times, it was as if everyone had to be herded in at once!
Reply from Sarah Webber, Group Marketing and Brand Manager at Ernstell House Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to write this review and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your comments about our team; they are dedicated to delivering an outstanding care experience for each and every one of our residents and we are incredibly proud of them.
We will certainly take on board your comments about the dining experience, and would like to clarify that we do offer a quality bonus scheme and actually pay significantly above the National Living Wage.
I hope we’ve addressed your comments and thank you again for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, which is always welcomed. If you’d like to discuss anything further though, please do speak with a member of our team at any time.

Dad is very happy at Ernstell House. He is settled and the staff are so attentive to all the residents. The staff are all so pleasant to us as well and they make us feel so welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they keep us well informed about Dad's wellbeing. There is also so much for the
residents to enjoy, especially in the activities, which the staff lay on for the residents and also for the families to enjoy as well, which my mum and I have been too. Dad loves the music, it was so nice to see him really enjoying himself and for us to take part in.

My family member has been a resident at Ernstell House for two years now and outside of lockdown I visited 3 - 4 times per month more often than not. I am disappointed to find that their bedroom is very dirty or that they have not been showered or dressed. It is also sad to see that there is very little
engagement and stimulation and that my relative spends the majority of their days on their own. I have never seen a manager or any management despite visiting regularly. A couple of staff are very good but a few are concerning. The food mostly looks very good.

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8. 12 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.8 = 0.938
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
