Ernstell House is a very good, friendly and welcoming care home. The Dementia Friendly care side of the home, is second to none, by most of the staff there. The staff are caring, supportive and friendly to their residents and their families. Any problems or if you are unhappy about any particular
thing, you can report it and it is sorted as soon as.
My Father has had several incidents at the home, due to his Dementia but they are always dealt with, with great support and calm from the staff.

We are very pleased to hear that you find the home friendly, welcoming and supportive. It means a great deal to know that you value the dementia care provided and that you have found the staff caring, calm and approachable with both residents and families.
We also appreciate your comments about concerns being dealt with promptly when raised. It is important to us that families feel listened to, supported and reassured that any issues will be addressed appropriately.

Overall mum seems to be happy at The Orchards. She has a lovely bond with the staff who make an effort with her and genuinely seem to care about her. It's clear she feels the same. Mum always seems to be well fed and clean. The home is kept nice and clean too. If I call ahead to let the home
Know
I'm taking her out She's always ready in time. Her room nice and is clean too which is good. I like seeing the activities on social media and it's clear mum enjoys joining in when she can. In terms of areas to improve, there is a lovely garden and I haven't seen the residents out there at all. Mum would always have been outside in good weather, it is important to sustain this. I feel that it would benefit residents health and overall happiness to be allowed out. The other thing is I asked a couple of times when mum moved in to be given important info such as around health changes/falls. But this doesn't always happen. Her husband is notified, but I'd like to know too.
Reply from Sekhar Thananki, Registered Manager at The OrchardsHi Poppy, thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. We are pleased to hear that you feel your mum is being well looked after. Her wellbeing is very important to us, and we will continue to provide her with the best possible care and support.
We understand how important it is for you to be kept informed about any changes in your mum's health, and we will continue to communicate with you and keep you updated. Thank you for your trust and for sharing your kind words with us.

My husband has been a resident at Signature House for four months now. He has settled in very well, and that is all due to the excellent care he receives from all the staff, bar none. Nothing is too much trouble, and they treat each and every resident with kindness and dignity. Sometimes under difficult
and challenging circumstances. But from my observation, they never waiver to give over and above what is required of them. My husband seems very well adjusted, and that makes me well assured.

Mum has a lovely room. The facilities are excellent and mum receives an excellent level of support and care. There are plenty of activities to keep her occupied. The staff are highly trained and treat mum with care and compassion. I can't think of a better place for mum to stay and it is such a relief

I feel the care has gone down at Ernstell. We can never find a member of staff when needed an update none of the staff eat the food. I have tasted the food it was awful.my husband has never had pressure sores before he has them now. You don't see any members of staff checking on the residents making
they have all they need 70% don't even say Good Morning or Afternoon. Whenever I have complained to the Manager. I have been told, not my words, he isn't a prisoner, move him if you don't like it. Not a good attitude for a Manager.
Reply from Nelson Ferreira, Registered Manager at Ernstell House Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry and surprised to read that this is how you feel, as we have always aimed to maintain open communication with all family members and to respond constructively to any concerns raised. We take all feedback seriously and will review the points mentioned, including communication, food, care, pressure area prevention, staff approach and general resident support, to identify any learning or improvements required. We are also mindful that residents with capacity must be supported to make their own choices, and we remain committed to respecting individual wishes, dignity and independence at all times. My mother was a resident of Signature House Care Home from late 2024 until her passing in early 2026. My brother and I performed a detailed evaluation of the care homes in the Dorchester area prior to selecting Signature House. It was our first choice location. Key factors were the central location
in Dorchester, with accessibility to shops, opticians, hearing aid centre, pubs and restaurants without need for a car, the purpose designed modern building with lifts to each floor, no changes in elevation on each floor, wide corridors and spacious en-suite rooms, and finally, the attentive, caring management and staff. There are a maximum of 16 residents on each floor and a good ratio of carers to residents. I was able to contact staff on a daily basis to enquire about my mothers activities and health and always felt that her needs were being met. During my mother's final days, she was treated with dignity and respect. The care staff and management were friendly and helpful at all times.

My uncle has been a resident for a short time at Signature House but the difference in him
Is AMAZING !!!!
My uncle suffered a fractured hip and spent 2 months in hospital which made his dementia worse.
Since coming to Signature House he's a completely different person washed and dressed clean shaven
and has a smile back on his face and his sense of humour is back too.
It's nice to see him happy after a difficult few months.
It's the dedication of the all the staff that have made my uncles transition easy.from hospital to his new home.
Many thanks for your care and support
I'm looking forward to the future seeing my uncle happy and at home.

Dad with advanced dementia has been a resident for 18 months. He is flourishing at Signature House - mobility improved, he is content/very happy. He tells me he likes it there and likes the food. He is benefitting from communal living and having lots of people around - he loves people-watching and
interacts with all the staff and visitors. All staff are cheerful, friendly, caring and really worked to get to know my Dad very well. It feels like one big happy family. The home is extremely well managed. The welcome when my Dad was admitted was wonderful - many members of staff came to help us and spent time with us. Dad is taken by staff to hospital appointments. Queries/suggestions are immediately addressed. There is a lovely garden for everyone to use and Dad is taken out there regularly. The activities arranged for residents are stimulating and endlessly creative - boat/pub trips/parties/music/visits with animals and celebration. I'd be happy to stay there myself if I needed care.
Reply from Mandy Bugler, Manager - Signature House at Signature HouseThank you so much for taking the time to share such lovely feedback about your Dad's stay at Signature House. We are delighted to hear that he has settled in so well and that he is enjoying living with us. Creating a warm, cheerful, and supportive environment for our residents is at the very heart of what we do, so it truly means a great deal to know this has been felt by both you and your Dad.
Getting to know our residents as individuals is incredibly important to us, as it allows our team to provide genuine, person-centred care, and I'm really pleased that this has been noticeable to you. I will be sure to share your kind words with the whole team - they will be thrilled to read such a wonderful review.

We/I could not be more grateful for all of the hard work and support that my grandfather has received since he moved into The Orchards almost a year ago. He has complex needs, but I have only ever seen all staff treat him with complete respect and dignity. He is chair/bed bound but staff always try
where possible t include him in as many activities as possible. It is a real reassurance to know he is being well cared for in the end stages of his life.

I wanted I express my thanks to the team for looking after my father in his final months. I only got to visit once but I knew my dad really liked his time here. He liked his room, the view, food and the staff.
It's in a nice calm spot, but near the town. Great location. My only gripe was I sent an email
and it wasn't answered. Would be good if there was some way that details could be shared for families, a weekly email maybe.
I'm thankful that dad passed in his sleep somewhere warm and comfortable with caring people around him.
Thank you so much

My father was cared for at Ernstell House for the last couple of years of his life and I would definitely recommend the home.
In particular, the way my sister and I were treated during his final week made us feel incredibly supported and more importantly allowed our Dad to have a dignified and peaceful
passing.
When his condition was really going downhill, the staff were nothing but lovely, respectful and calm. In fact, I can say that about everyone that we saw come into his room that week.
After he'd passed, it was comforting to have staff members come up and tell us how much they liked our Dad and how sorry they were that he had died. We were left with a genuine sense that they cared, which is how you hope it would be.
Reply from Nelson Ferreira, Registered Manager at Ernstell House Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and heartfelt review, and for your kind recommendation of Ernstell House. It means a great deal to read your comments, particularly regarding the care, compassion and support provided to your father and to your family during his final week. Supporting residents and those closest to them at such an important and emotional time is a responsibility we take very seriously, so it is especially meaningful to know that your father was able to have a dignified and peaceful passing, and that you and your sister felt genuinely supported throughout. Your kind words about the staff being lovely, respectful and calm, and about the sincere care shown after your father's passing, will mean a great deal to the whole team. It is always our aim to provide not only high standards of care, but also kindness, reassurance and dignity for both residents and their loved ones. We will ensure that we pass your positive comments onto the team. Thank you!

Its great to see my dad relaxed and comfortable in his surroundings where he has made many new friends, residents and staff. Our little dog visits also and has a fuss from all the staff. When he's
