As a frequent visitor to the care home the staff are welcoming and friendly. The home is very clean the residents are always supported by the staff. The room where my friend is a resident its very clean and decorated in a calm and pleasant to the eyes. Interacting with the residents during their chair
exercises some will talk to me while often just sit.
I also stay during the lunch period the resident enjoy their meal and was served in caring and pleasant way.
The care for dementia residents and support they received from staff are caring and very understanding to their needs.

You advertise for Dementia care but when my dad was ill I asked the nurses what to do with a Dementia patient and they said we dont, we have a dr that comes in on a Wednesday, my dad's clothes were missing someone else's there, when we left his jacket was missing, he cut his finger one day and there
was blood on the curtains and carpet, it took 3 times repeatedly for the blood stains to be removed, when they put the curtains back they were not put back properly, the staff said it wasn't their job to do it, £1, 450 per week, what was it spent on , I could go o but won't, what care home has a manager that whe their off comes to a standstill as there is no Deputy manager to cover ...
Reply from Madeleine Albright, Home Manager at Dalton LodgeHello, and thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your experience at Dalton Lodge. I'm very sorry to hear of this experience.
We do support residents with a wide range of dementia needs, and depending on the nature of the question asked at the time, the team would have responded appropriately. For any clinical queries, we do need to liaise with the GP, as the home is supported by trained dementia carers rather than nurses.
Regarding the concerns you've raised about the blood staining and the presentation of the room afterwards, this is not the standard we expect at Dalton Lodge. We will look into this and speak with our Head of Housekeeping to ensure this is addressed. Please be assured that we take all feedback seriously, and we use it to reflect, review, and improve our practice.
As the home manager, I'm genuinely sorry that your experience at Dalton Lodge has not been a positive one. We are committed to learning from all feedback to improve on our service.

My sister has been at Dalton Lodge since December 24, and I cannot rate it highly enough. She is very vulnerable and relatively young to have quite complex care needs and moderate dementia. She is independent spirited and being in care is hard for her. She is very well cared for and loves it at Dalton
Lodge, having had some very difficult experiences in previous homes.
Reply from Madeleine Albright, Home Manager at Dalton LodgeThank you for your kind feedback. We are very pleased to hear that your sister feels well cared for and comfortable at Dalton Lodge, especially given the challenges she has faced in other homes. Supporting residents with complex needs while respecting their independence is central to our approach, and it means a great deal to know she has settled well. Thank you once again for your heartfelt review. Your feedback encourages our team and reinforces our commitment to providing the highest standard of care.

Dalton Lodge is like a five-star hotel for vulnerable guests, by a surprisingly lovely patch of Epping Forest - search "Rising Sun Woods".

No connection! I'm "principal supporter" of a vulnerable resident, who said "I think I've fallen on my feet here!"
It feels like home, she says. The rooms are

spotless and surprisingly spacious, with en-suite shower & toilet. Resident lounges give views of the lovely gardens. One room is set up as pub ("Green Man") with bar, dartboard, & comfy chairs - next to the Cinema room(!) Small displays are carefully chosen to be stimulating to older people, and I noticed music playing from the era when many there would have been young. The care is palpable.
Staff are flexible, caring, helpful, patient & good-natured, and took time to talk about the resident's needs and wishes. I've found management refreshingly flexible & helpful, with a readiness to make adjustments to make an old lady happy.
The resident is safe, comfortable and happy. And so am I
Reply from Madeleine Albright, Home Manager at Dalton LodgeThank you so much for this lovely review. Its wonderful to hear how happy and settled your loved one feels at Dalton Lodge and were delighted that you feel the same. We really want the home to feel warm, welcoming, and comfortable, so your comments about the rooms, lounges, and little touches around the home mean a lot to us.
Im also really pleased to hear that the team has made such a positive impression. They work hard to be flexible, caring, and attentive to each residents needs, so feedback like this genuinely makes their day.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. Were glad you both feel at home here.

My parents were amongst the first residents at Dalton Lodge, in December 2024, and I will admit it was a bit stressful all round, but as time has moved on we as a family are coming to terms with the change, and clearly arriving in December when it's cold is not ideal, as they had left their family home
of 70 years. I'm not local to Dalton Lodge so therefore not a very frequent visitor but from what I have seen the staff work very hard and keep cheery.
They have found it quite noisy, having been used to the peace and quiet of their own home.
They have got used to the food, although I do believe my mother doesn't hold back if she thinks something can be done better, she was a very good cook and likes her food to be served hot on hot plates, something she made clear from the start, and I think improvements have been made in this regard.
The staff are very understanding and work hard.

Both my parents came to Dalton Lodge in December 2024. Still together after 73 years of marriage! They are gradually adapting to their new home, which is beautiful in every respect. Mum and Dad particularly like the bright, airy "Green Man Pub". They often sit there to have a snack, and have the odd
non-alcoholic beverage! They have well-furnished, nicely decorated private rooms with en-suite facilities. There is an internet connection (another first for Mum and Dad). Their smart speaker has proved a great hit! The forest lined gardens are beautiful. Access to the gardens is a little limited from upstairs. There is a balcony, but it requires keycode access (totally understandable). Not great television watchers, the noise in one of the lounges is a little overbearing, and they seek more peace in another smaller lounge. Appreciating more peace and quiet, they both do find the air circulation sound intrusive. The catering has improved. Mum will let the cooks know her tastes (she was a very good cook!). Dalton Lodge has responded positively to this. The incredible staff are patient, kind, well trained and have got to know the idiosyncrasies of my parents. Dalton Lodge have excelled in this respect.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.567)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.567) out of 10 for Dalton Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.420 for Dalton Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (61 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 88 Ratings = 4.42
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.147 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dalton Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.8 = 0.547
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
