Dalton Lodge

Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Dalton Lodge is like a five-star hotel for vulnerable guests, by a surprisingly lovely patch of Epping Forest - search "Rising Sun Woods".

No connection! I'm "principal supporter" of a vulnerable resident, who said "I think I've fallen on my feet here!"
It feels like home, she says. The rooms are

spotless and surprisingly spacious, with en-suite shower & toilet. Resident lounges give views of the lovely gardens. One room is set up as pub ("Green Man") with bar, dartboard, & comfy chairs - next to the Cinema room(!) Small displays are carefully chosen to be stimulating to older people, and I noticed music playing from the era when many there would have been young. The care is palpable.
Staff are flexible, caring, helpful, patient & good-natured, and took time to talk about the resident's needs and wishes. I've found management refreshingly flexible & helpful, with a readiness to make adjustments to make an old lady happy.
The resident is safe, comfortable and happy. And so am I

I have done an in-depth review on another platform for a truly honest opinion.
I do not have enough characters to give an honest review in this space - I do not want any family to go through the trauma and anxiety we experienced.
Please note the last CQC review was in February 2022 - things have
obviously spiralled downhill since then - not that you should ever rely on CQC reports.

Clare Lodge Care Home

from Matt H (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 5 August 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother-in-law has always been very independent, often taking foreign trips and holidays on her own.
But recently she suffered a rapid memory decline, unable to care for herself.
It was unknown territory, and a very worrying time for us all.
After visiting several care homes I decided on Clare
Lodge in central Albans.
Clare Lodge has proved to be an excellent choice.
She now has a lovely sunny bedroom and settled in surprisingly quickly. Plus I have been given free dementia training.
Clare Lodge has a good range of facilities, with regular daily activities being organised, plus trips to the seaside and other outings.
The staff are consistently friendly, kind and attentive, and have built a strong bond of friendship with my mother-in-law.
She has been transformed from a lonely, anxious lady into a relaxed and happy member of a vibrant, active, peaceful and caring small
community. She is happy and I am happy. Thank you Clare Lodge.

Reply from Clare Lodge Home, Home Manager at Clare Lodge Care Home

I'd like to thank you, on behalf of myself and the team. Your Mother-in-law has settled into the community beautifully and is already a very active participant in all we do.

Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Sr Laura's has been such a breath of fresh air for our Mum, the atmosphere is positive and kind. Every single member of staff is welcoming and warm. There always seems to be a smile and activities happening. The place is so well managed by the manager and standards are very high regarding cleanliness
and systems . Mums support has been so wonderful. Carer and her team have made sure she has felt safe and welcomed not to mention trying so hard to improve her quality of life. There are so many thoughtful touches to the place . Mum feels really settled.

Reply from Eme Cameron, Home Manager at St Lauras Care Home

Caring for your Mum has been a delight over the past few weeks. I am so pleased our paths crossed and you chose to move her into our care and of course thankful you put your trust into me and my amazing team to care for her. Mum has brought us a barrel of laughs and has certainly put her own stamp on the home, from getting us ordering Cheeseburgers to making videos with the staff - she really is a special lady with the best sense of humour. We hope to continue to make this time of her life a special and rememberable one, thank you for supporting us and your kind words - the team deserve to hear this wonderful feedback and should be proud of it!

I have felt very supported by the care given to my sister. The staff are very patient with her and take into account her worries and concerns. In particular, when she has been attended to by the dentist and a district nurse, they have demonstrated compassion and care. I am very grateful to all concerned.

St Lauras Care Home

from J D (Wife of Resident) published on 22 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My husband stayed for nine days (respite care). It was his second visit and he was warmly welcomed by the manager and two carers. His room was spotlessly clean and when I collected him, all his clothes were freshly laundered. All the residents look happy and content and trips out are regularly arranged.
They seem to be kept busy but the atmosphere is relaxed. When I collected him, he didn't seem to want to come home!

My Mother is a very frail (nearly) 95 year old and I would like to register my gratitude for the overall tangible improvement of all aspects since the new management has been in place. From care to ambience and accessibility to staff, all are now exceptional.
Living proof of the phrase about a new

Since the home has been taken over by new management the change in the care , atmosphere & general day to day running of the home has been extraordinary. My Nan has not had it easy since becoming a resident 18 months ago, however the care, love & support she has received recently has shown the incredible
change .Unfortunately my nans needs have become increasingly difficult recently, however Nan has been massively supported & us as a family by both the care workers & the management team. We will be forever grateful for the support we're receiving.

My father recently passed away in Greenhill Care Home. He had been a resident since May 2022. Since his first day, until the day he died, he was treated with kindness, consideration and dignity. It was such a comfort to know my father was always surrounded by friendly and caring staff.

I am always impressed when I visit my mum by how well she is looked after and how content she is. Staff are friendly and speak to all residents with kindness and respect. It is a comfort to me and my siblings that my mum is so well cared for.

Montrose Care Home

from J S (Daughter of Resident) published on 9 July 2025

My mother settled into Montrose very quickly. She had previously been unhappy and anxious but since moving into Montrose she is happy and much more contended. She is eating better than she has for ages she really enjoys the food. He room is lovely and comfortable. She can have privacy or go to the lounge
to mix with other residents. The staff are friendly and caring. My mother initially moved in for respite care but she is so happy at Montrose she is now staying permanently.

Reply from Russell Sharp, Home Manager at Montrose Care Home

Thank you for your kind review. We're extremely pleased mum has been able to settle so quickly and so well into Montrose Care Home. We continue to develop her person-centred care plans, and if there is anything you feel that we can add to enhance her stay, then please let us know.

Osbourne Court Care Home

from Andy C (Son of Resident) published on 1 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother was in residential care at Osbourne Court in Baldock from November 2024 - May 2025. Mum was in the best of care to support her advanced dementia/Alzheimer's & elderly aging medical needs.
The B&M Rose Model approach with individual care was incredibly supportive to Mum with her daily routine.
Mum's overall residential experience was a happy one, she spoke about it often as the right place for her to be, expressed with a very big smile! Mum enjoyed making new acquaintances with other residents & "friendship buddies" with her carers. Exceptional managers offered informational guidance & support with administrative matters & relevant care concerns. It was reassuring my mother received invaluable quality care by professionally experienced, knowledgeable & kind-hearted caregivers and managers.
