The Review Score of 8.4 (maximum of 10) for St Andrews Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 12 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for St Andrews Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.639 for St Andrews Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (98 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 144 Ratings = 4.639

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.714 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Andrews Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5

    2. Target of 14 positive Reviews (70 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 14 Target = 0.214

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother has been a resident of St Andrews Care Home for 5.5 years. She has always been treated with kindness and respect. The carers are first rate. They have proved to be knowledgeable, helpful and professional many times over the years.
The management team is also excellent, always willing to communicate with family members. I would not hesitate to recommend St Andrews Care Home. 5 stars!

Mum came to St Andrew's for a week over Christmas and New Year period to give my sister respite. The home was clean, spacious well ordered and cheerful. The staff without exception were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Mum thoroughly enjoyed her stay and we left her there safe in the knowledge that she would be very well cared for.

A very good and caring care home. My partner, suffering from dementia, has been a resident since the end of October 2017, following a fall at home, and a spell in hospital. She was very frail and needed a wheelchair on arrival, but now thanks to the support of the staff she is getting back on her feet again. One reason we chose St Andrews was that visits are welcome at any time of day. I visit daily, and all the staff have become like family - they are so welcoming and friendly. Accommodation and food are excellent - I had Xmas lunch at St Andrews with my partner, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Rooms and facilities are excellent. Crisis response is very impressive. One day a resident had a fall, and immediately alarm bells sounded and staff were helping her from the floor. She was found to have grazed her arm, and paramedic backup was called. A second resident, a diabetic, then had a hypo, and another ambulance arrived just 10 minutes after the first. Well done St Andrews!

My 91-year-old mother fell while at home, and was struggling to get better - we had had very good recommendations about St Andrews, and visited it on Sunday. The staff were caring and upbeat, very responsive, and my mother was accepted the next day for respite care. She stayed there for 7 weeks. We cannot speak highly enough of the staff - who were uniformly excellent, caring, thoughtful and patient. The facilities are well maintained and secure, my mother's bedroom always well cleaned and tidy. They provided activities to keep her stimulated, as well as ensuring she had all the medical and personal care she needed, including doctors' visits, hairdressing and chiropody. I would like to thank all the team for the great care my mother received, enabling her to recover and return home - she was delighted with the care, saying it was like being in a spa. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering somewhere that will support and care for an elderly relative.

My mother recently spent a few weeks of respite in this lovely home. I just wanted to send a big thank you to all staff who looked after her in such a caring and professional way. I know you all could not have done more for her and I was so impressed that she really came out of her shell after only a couple of weeks. She is not always an easy lady to deal with but I thought you all managed her really well. Having residents in respite can be difficult because they know or hope that they are moving on, which can be unsettling for them.

I was very impressed with the attitude and cheerfulness of all staff. I know all your jobs are not easy and it is teamwork that really makes it a special home.

We are pleased with the level of care shown to our mother. Our mother needs encouragement to keep to a daily routine and is relatively immobile. We appreciate the personal touch which is given to mum with the regular members of staff who attend to mum have developed a genuine care for her. Mum has what she needs in her room, although the room is not generous in size - the bathroom, however, is good.

Excellent care and all the staff were delightful. Food could have been better but I understand, at least it was edible.
We have already recommended it for my mother in law.

The care home is always clean and bright and warm. The staff are excellent, from the lady at reception to the care staff. They look after my dad with gently respect that my dad can retain his pride and sense of humour no matter how hard it gets for him. Their thoughtfulness is what makes the home so good.

Mother was living at home by herself. She was not eating, not taking her medication and had developed a skin allergy. She was admitted to St Andrews in December 2016 who have got on top of her condition. Mum is now much less anxious and as a family we know she is in the best place with 24/7 care.

My mother has a form of dementia called 'FTD'. She has been a resident at St Andrews Care Home for over 5 years. The care she receives is excellent. The most important aspects of care for someone with dementia is a genuine approach to person-centered case.
This means all staff need ongoing and modern training as understanding of how to care for those with dementia is developed. I have attended excellent training with staff as a family member. I am confident my mother is treated with the respect and dignity she deserves by all staff.

Mum recently passed away very peacefully having lived at St Andrews for three years. She has had THE best care I could ever wish for. The staff have always been amazing both to her and to us. They have become like family to us. She developed dementia which escalated very quickly earlier this year and had to move floors to a more specialist unit. This transition was done with care and dignity and great compassion was always shown. I have nothing but praise for St Andrews and all the staff. Thank you so very much.

My father moved here after a stroke. He has been well cared for and made good relationships with staff who are always cheery. He tends to be solitary and does not take advantage of the activities which seem to be mainly a weekly quiz, whether anyone has attempted to help him with loneliness. I don't know. The doctor calls once a week and administration of medication is well organised but I don't think he is encouraged to be more mobile. Overall he is content and safe. He finds the food very ordinary.
