My aunt has been a resident for five years. She needs support to shower but is relatively independent otherwise, despite poor sight/mobility. Staff are kind and caring and are quick to contact medical services whenever this is needed. Communication with relatives is good. Over time, I have been concerned
that there are not sufficient activities for residents or opportunities to socialise, but this is possibly improving. I quite understand that this is maybe due to staffing problems.

Thank you for your review. We are devastated by the impact Covid has had on our engagement. However, I would like to reassure you that we focused and implemented adjustments to Engagement in the Home where more person-centred activities are being provided, and residents' personal views are always being respected.

I have not been able to go on to units or into rooms for over a year now, due to Covid-19, so I cannot comment on recent standards, but previously, I found them to be of a good general standard. My experience of St Andrews over the last two and a half years since my mum has been a resident has been
very positive. I always find the staff welcoming, friendly and efficient, and Mum has always been happy whilst there. The fact she is well cared for, not anxious and always happy is very reassuring for me.

Mum was at St Andrews for nearly two years. I will always be grateful to the staff for their care and attention, but also for the love they gave Mum. St Andrews is a bright, modern, clean and characterful building with plenty of well maintained outside space with tables and chairs and parasols for relaxing
in the gardens. But of course, the best attribute of a care home is its staff - they are top-notch - cheerful, kind and sensitive. I almost forgot to mention the gorgeous cinema - beautifully designed - and well used - I hear they will be setting up a bar soon - all the comforts of home - and more!

Following a fall at home, my mother entered the care of St Andrews Care Home. She was well looked after by a professional, caring and friendly staff. You were always greeted with a friendly smile and a chat at reception. When visiting, you were always offered a cup of tea and a biscuit. The staff always
had time to have a chat and update you if anything had changed. The staff always called you at home to discuss any important issues, like getting consent for any particular treatment. Unfortunately, my mother passed away recently, and the care home was unable to send representatives to attend the funeral because of covid 19, so we arranged for the hearse to pay the care home a visit, so staff could pay their last respects. We were amazed that over 25 members of staff came out on a very cold day to say farewell to our mum. I would have no hesitation in recommending St Andrews to anyone wishing to find a friendly, caring care home for a loved one.

My experience of St Andrews, which I have dealt with re my step-mother for almost 10-years is very good. They have always been kind and extremely helpful, dealt with small things and contacted me as necessary. The welcome at the desk, allowing my dog in, made visiting a pleasure. I definitely would
recommend the home, but prefer to advise than sound pressuring. Thank you all for your help.

If you want a kind, caring and family feel home for your relative, this is a perfect choice.
My mum came in as respite and now long term care. Every day she tells me how happy she is. How clean they're keeping everywhere and that she feels well looked after by the hard-working staff
It is such trying
times for the care sector, but despite this, I also feel that they put the resident's needs above anything else. Thank you to the new manager, receptionists and all the many staff that keep Mum cheerful whilst I can’t get in to see her at this time. You are all so very appreciated.

Wonderful Care Home, with outstanding staff, who are kind, caring, highly skilled and work well as a team. Helped my Mum with a Skype call to family last week which she was thrilled about. Senior staff offer excellent, sensitive, professional advice drawn from years of experience and training, which
really helped me, as a daughter and carer, support Mum with some important decisions about her care. Low staff turnover suggests to me some really good leadership and management - I recognised so many staff from the last time Mum stayed here. Organised access to District Nursing team when compression bandaging needed. Lovely clean and welcoming environment, an excellent range of activities organised, positive and warm atmosphere. Supported my Mum after a period of ill-health to get back on her feet again, to go back to live in her flat, which she really appreciated, she says: "I cannot fault the staff, they are lovely".

Never do I regret my choice of St Andrews. I also never regret deciding never to place my parent in a more expensive, well-known residence.
This is a lovely family orientated care home which supports its residents in a dignified, personal and caring manner.
Thanks, St Andrews, I would never have been
able to do for my mother what you do!

We always received a welcome from reception. All the staff are interested and concerned to maintain a high level of care for my sister.
St Andrews present themselves as my sister's "home" although my sister sadly does not comprehend that. They work hard as a team with the doctor and I do get consulted
when necessary.

We were so worried about putting mum in care and so thankful we found St Andrews especially after looking at so many other homes. We feel relieved that we can leave mum here where we know she is so well looked after. The constant care and awareness is so reassuring. There are always carers with her
and the residents are never left unattended. They try very hard to keep their minds etc active. We are so pleased with the care home.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.854)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.854) out of 10 for St Andrews Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.311 for St Andrews Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.311
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.543 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Andrews Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 14 = 0.643
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
