Ashlyns Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Both of my parents needed extra support over the last few years and Ashlyns was the top of my list for where to place them. It lived up to all my expectations. The staff are all amazing.. there is always a smile and lots of support, most importantly when things are hard. The care given is second to
none and especially as my parents were deteriorating, the dignity and dedication that was provided I will never forget. It's a lovely environment too, very clean and light with lovely grounds where you can take a walk. And most importantly for those with mobility issues all on one level. I cannot recommend Ashlyns enough. A lot of effort is made with the food, being home cooked wherever possible and mum and dad enjoyed their meals. And there is an extensive biscuit tray!! Having to place your parents in a care home is hard enough but when you have the immense support of a lovely team of people it makes it so much easier to bare. Thank you to the managers and the all the team.

St Lauras Care Home

The staff at St Lauras have been very welcoming for my mums respite stay. Indeed they have gone out of their way to make her feel comfortable. and settled. The activities provided on a daily basis are varied and to a high standard. There are many nice personal touches. For example, they helped my mum
celebrate her birthday during her stay by baking a cake and giving her some flowers. Visits to the local high street for some light shopping and coffee have also been arranged - which provides a change of scene and fresh stimulation.
The hygiene and cleanliness standards are very high at St Lauras. A special mention must go to members of staff and of course none of the above would be possible without the leadership from St Lauras Manager.
Reply from Eme Cameron, Home Manager at St Lauras Care Home

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your lovely words. It has been a pleasure to have her here with us and watching her familiarise herself with the team and other residents, even calling it 'home' the other day. Mum has brought many laughs, fun and games to our home and we are thankful to be caring for her. With a cheeky sense of humour and a very warm heart - she is indeed a very special lady. Thank you for trusting in us to care for her and choosing St Lauras care home. You and your family are a delight!

From the first moment I contacted St .Laura's, my family and I have received first class personal service and communication from the Manager. The manager has gone over and above to ensure the placement of this resident and their approach to his care has been entirely based around his particular needs,
personality, likes and dislikes. Staff are available to discuss any issues and his placement there is going very well. Understanding the need for different approaches to different individuals is first and foremost.

Wow, what a complimentary review to us as a home. Your loved ones admission into St Lauras has been a extra special one, from the phone call from enquiry to now - it has been a journey and a lovely one at that. Seeing your loved one on their dementia journey has understandably been a challenge and emotional rollercoaster for you all. Throughout you have all put your trust in us to guide you and worked with us to make it as peaceful for him as we could. Thank you for your lovely and kind words and we truly look forward to getting to know you all more, here's to our future as one big family.

Mum moved into Osbourne Court in September of 2024 so has been there just under a year.
Mum is a very independent person and taking the step to move into a care facility was not easy
for her. From day one Mum and our family received a warm, caring and friendly welcome from all of the staff
at
Osbourne Court. Mum has settled in well and has now made new friends with other
residents, she often says how well she is looked after and how happy she is there. Mum's
mental and physical health has improved dramatically since she started living at Osbourne
Court. We are always notified of anything going on with Mum and we always receive an
answer to any questions or concerns we have about Mum. The Osbourne Court team is a
happy one that works well together and it is reflected in the care they give to their residents.
The peace of mind we have knowing that Mum is in such good hands is priceless.

We have nothing but praise for Osbourne Court. The caring staff are kind and thoughtful, the food is so good that Dad is bulking up again, his room is like his home and the common parts do not feel institutional.
I like the fact that Dad is not treated like a child and it is expected that he should
really feel as if he is in his own home - which he is. With help he can go outside and we can take him on outings at any time.
I know he feels safe and well-cared for. He likes having male carers and they engage with him while they are caring. He has personal attention to help him to exercise and to keep his mind active. All really successful for him.
As a family, we are thankful every day that Osbourne Court could accept him. We are confident that Osbourne Court are making this last period of his life a happy one .

From the moment my mum moved into Osbourne Court, I knew she was in the right place. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and full of life. Every member of staff goes above and beyond to make residents feel safe, cared for, and valued. It's clear that they don't just see it as a job.
The home itself
is beautifully kept, clean, and comfortable, with a lovely, homely feel. There's always something going on activities, laughter, and friendly conversation and my mum has settled in far quicker than I could have imagined. She's eating well, smiling more and truly feels like part of the community. The staff are nothing short of amazing. They take time to understand each resident's needs, preferences, and personality, everyone is treated with patience, dignity and kindness. Communication with families is excellent.
Knowing mum is in safe and loving hands is priceless. Osbourne Court is more than just a care home, it's a home full of heart.
Thank you

First visit in August, this time was around 10am. We found dad in the lounge in a wheel chair asleep and we did manage to wake him and over about 30 minutes we managed to get some interaction. During our time a staff member made him a cup of tea. My wife then cut his finger nails and checked his
hearing aid batteries.
We did visit his room to check on toiletries and to drop of a sensor floor mat, which we had been informed we needed to buy as the one he had been using was broken and had only been lent to him. We also donated a bag of DVDs for the residents, both these items were left in his room and a member of staff informed.

Mum became a resident in May25, and I became a Daughter again. Having been caring for Mum with her progressing dementia, we lost that relationship, and both of us felt alone and lost in it all. Osbourne Court and the wonderful staff are amazing, cannot express my gratitude enough. Mum has a fuller
life, eating, sleeping better, and round the clock care and security, giving me peace of mind. Never an easy decision to make, moving a loved one into a home, but this has been best for Mum and my family. So be strong, pick up the phone and book a viewing, hope my review helps you on this path, all the best.

I have done an in-depth review on another platform for a truly honest opinion.
I do not have enough characters to give an honest review in this space - I do not want any family to go through the trauma and anxiety we experienced.
Please note the last CQC review was in February 2022 - things have
obviously spiralled downhill since then - not that you should ever rely on CQC reports.

My mother-in-law has always been very independent, often taking foreign trips and holidays on her own.
But recently she suffered a rapid memory decline, unable to care for herself.
It was unknown territory, and a very worrying time for us all.
After visiting several care homes I decided on Clare
Lodge in central Albans.
Clare Lodge has proved to be an excellent choice.
She now has a lovely sunny bedroom and settled in surprisingly quickly. Plus I have been given free dementia training.
Clare Lodge has a good range of facilities, with regular daily activities being organised, plus trips to the seaside and other outings.
The staff are consistently friendly, kind and attentive, and have built a strong bond of friendship with my mother-in-law.
She has been transformed from a lonely, anxious lady into a relaxed and happy member of a vibrant, active, peaceful and caring small
community. She is happy and I am happy. Thank you Clare Lodge.

I'd like to thank you, on behalf of myself and the team. Your Mother-in-law has settled into the community beautifully and is already a very active participant in all we do.

Sr Laura's has been such a breath of fresh air for our Mum, the atmosphere is positive and kind. Every single member of staff is welcoming and warm. There always seems to be a smile and activities happening. The place is so well managed by the manager and standards are very high regarding cleanliness
and systems . Mums support has been so wonderful. Carer and her team have made sure she has felt safe and welcomed not to mention trying so hard to improve her quality of life. There are so many thoughtful touches to the place . Mum feels really settled.

Caring for your Mum has been a delight over the past few weeks. I am so pleased our paths crossed and you chose to move her into our care and of course thankful you put your trust into me and my amazing team to care for her. Mum has brought us a barrel of laughs and has certainly put her own stamp on the home, from getting us ordering Cheeseburgers to making videos with the staff - she really is a special lady with the best sense of humour. We hope to continue to make this time of her life a special and rememberable one, thank you for supporting us and your kind words - the team deserve to hear this wonderful feedback and should be proud of it!

I have felt very supported by the care given to my sister. The staff are very patient with her and take into account her worries and concerns. In particular, when she has been attended to by the dentist and a district nurse, they have demonstrated compassion and care. I am very grateful to all concerned.

Mum has been in the home 3 years and she is happy with the level of care she receives. The staff are extremely kind and caring and always bring a smile to her face. The genuinely seem to care for mum. A good range of activities are provided. A lovely location by the river.
We are delighted we sent
mum to such a caring home.

St Lauras Care Home

My husband stayed for nine days (respite care). It was his second visit and he was warmly welcomed by the manager and two carers. His room was spotlessly clean and when I collected him, all his clothes were freshly laundered. All the residents look happy and content and trips out are regularly arranged.
They seem to be kept busy but the atmosphere is relaxed. When I collected him, he didn't seem to want to come home!

It was again the upmost of pleasures to have your wonderful Husband stay with us, we already look forward to his next stay here at St Lauras. We hope you enjoyed your holiday, especially knowing that he was in safe hands. Remember to come back to join in with any of our activities and to have dinner with us whenever you like. Goodbye for not but hopefully not too long! Thank you for your valued feedback.
