My mum has lived at Edendale for over four years now, and the care she receives is exemplary. The staff are all wonderful, lead by a fabulous management team. I was terrified that Mum would hate it, but from day one, she felt at home, and I haven't had a moments worry about her since. I would, and frequently
do, recommend Edendale Lodge to anyone who needs a safe and loving home for an elderly relative.

What an incredible place this is. My dad has dementia and has never been happy in a home. He also was stuck in hospital for 2 months during lockdown. He has been there 4 months and he has completely changed. They have been patient and treated him like a human being. He is now happier than he has ever
been and I get regular messages from the manager keeping me up to date with his progress. I would recommend this place to anyone.

My elderly dad lived at Edendale for nearly 2 years, when circumstances changed and I could no longer look after him at home. During all that time, I was always 100% confident that he was receiving the best possible care to meet his needs, both physically and emotionally. All the staff were friendly
to him and to me and my family when we visited, and were always greeted with "tea or coffee"! Dad wasn't a great mixer and didn't want to sit in the lounge with the other residents and staff respected this and willingly served his meals in his room and popped in, more than necessary, for a chat. During Covid restrictions, Whatsapp chats were arranged and messages always passed on to him when I rang to let him know, although I couldn't visit him, I hadn't forgotten him. Sadly, my dad passed away last month, completely unrelated to the coronavirus, and I say a big thank you to all the staff who looked after him so well during his time with them. I miss my dad but the lovely staff too.

Edendale Lodge staff always welcomed me with a friendly hello when I arrived to see my grandad. We could even take our dog in to see him, which he loved. The care he received whilst there, I couldn't fault. We, as a family, knew all his needs were met to a high standard and all staff treated him well.
He always commented on how good the food was and liked fish and chip Friday. He passed away recently, aged 91 but we would recommend this home to anyone looking for a home for a loved one. Thank you for all you did for my grandad.

I have found that the care that my mother receives especially during this Covid-19 pandemic is exemplary. Although I have not been able to visit my mother due to the lockdown requirements my telephone calls to the home have been dealt with politely and efficiently with staff providing me with answers
to all my questions. I am extremely grateful for the care and affection that the staff has shown to my mother and I send my heartfelt gratitude to them all.
I have one comment to make about the home: I have noticed the ever-deteriorating poor condition of the entrance driveway to the home and the parking/turning area at the front of the home that is littered with large and deep potholes often filled with filthy water. It is no exaggeration to say that smaller low travelling cars have difficulty in entering and negotiating the site. I have a large 4x4 and even that lurches violently when entering. Immediate and urgent repairs should be carried out asap.

My mother is well looked after by all the staff. I believe she is popular with the staff and I know they provide the care that she needs and that we could not provide at home. My mother is very complimentary about the food. Thank you.

All the Management and staff have been very kind and understanding since my Dad came here. Dad has been treated with dignity and respect and gained friendship from his personal careers who have tried above and beyond to help him settle into a new routine and environment which was very challenging for
him. The staff always make us feel welcome and are friendly when we visit.
I would like to thank you all.

The manager and staff have had a hard job to bring Edendale Lodge up to standard and they have done an excellent job. It's homely and my friend is happy and feels its home. He is not the easiest to look after but they all make him feel at home. His dementia has got steadily worse.

We have found this care home to be excellent in terms of care, cleanliness, staff and management. The activities could be improved and it would be wonderful if a minibus was available to take residents out on day trips - even just to the sea/shops. Food is okay but could be improved and more varied.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.597)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.597) out of 10 for Edendale Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.947 for Edendale Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (90 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.947
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Edendale Lodge Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
