Unfortunately, I was reeled in by the 'senior administrator' and led to believe Ivy Gate Lodge was the best place for my mum for respite. I was shown the 'show room' on my visits. That was not what met me when we arrived. No TV in the room, I had to ask. Yes, it's a lovely brand new building but don't
be fooled. My mum has never stayed anywhere before so I needed to know that she was going to be well looked after. She was booked in for 2weeks. She only lasted 3 and a half days. After important medication was missed twice. Being left wet twice and very poor quality food being served. This was not rectified after speaking to the manager.
The nurse in charge tried his best but he could not be on duty 7 days a week. I did not have any confidence at all in letting my mum be cared for by these people. When these drug errors occurred the head nurse was not on shift.
Simple instructions for my mum's care were not carried out. My overall experience was very poor.
Reply from Havina Mathew, Registered Manager at Ivy Gate LodgeWe were sorry to read of your disappointment with the facilities and services we provided for your loved one. In relation to the medication incident, where your mum had dropped the pill given to her, we have reinforced with our team that they must stay with residents until they are sure the medication has been taken. We are sorry that our carer failed to do that in this case. In relation to personal care, our records show clearly that your mum was checked every two hours, as would normally be done, and changed as required. We did increase that to hourly checks when your concerns were raised. We are disappointed indeed to hear of your negative comments regarding the food we served. We pride ourselves on our carefully crafted menus of freshly prepared nutritious and delicious hot and cold food, using locally sourced ingredients where possible, and we are sorry that you felt that we fell short.

My experience, through many visits, is that in the residence. There is kindness personified. Without exception, kindness was shown to the residents and to the visitors.
"An ounce of kindness in a time of need is worth a ton of kindness at any other time."

The staff not only looked after my grandfather who was under palliative care, but my mummy, who was by his side throughout. The staff cared for residents like family, respectfully and with dignity. I witnessed this during late evenings. You are very special kind people.

What an extraordinary, positive experience. From support in getting my father final life care and moved to Ivy Gate Lodge Care Home and then the care and support both my father and each family member received in very difficult circumstances. Could not ask for better support, facilities, care, staff
at all levels, nursing, reception, auxiliary etc. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Ivy Gate Lodge Care Home could not have been any more of a perfect place for my nan to spend the last days of her life and we, as a family, will be forever grateful to the manager and one member of staff for their assistance and fast actions on getting my nan to the lodge and out of the hospital in
time to get the exceptional palliative care she received at the lodge.
Every single member of staff that we came into contact with at Ivy Gate was so welcoming, caring, supportive, compassionate and competent. The nurses and carers who looked after my nan were incredible, I could not have asked for better care and support from any of them and would like to say a special thanks the nurse who was there for us during her last days and went above and beyond to make sure everything was in place.
You are all truly special people and we are all forever grateful for your kindness during this sad time.
I would recommend Ivy Gate Lodge to every single person out there looking for a home for their loved ones.

In my brief visits, I have not seen much evidence of encouraging patients to mild exercise. I do realise it is not easy to motivate the elderly patients.
Reply from Claire Morgan-Parker, Registered Manager at Ivy Gate LodgeThank you so much for your review, Ivy gate Lodge takes pride in providing person-centred care, activities take place daily within the lodge and we always encourage mild exercise for our lovely residents. I'm sorry you were unable to evidence this on your visits, we will take your feedback very seriously and look at our activities program.

My aunt is really well cared for and she loves the staff. We have no concerns at all and would recommend it. It was really nerve-wracking moving into a home but all of our concerns as a family have now gone and we know we made the right choice.

The care and attention that Mum has received during her stay have been outstanding. There is always someone to check on her and everyone is also so attentive to her needs. Everyone knows Mum and is so personal in the care they give her. It is incredibly comforting as a relative to know that Mum is receiving
this level of care all day, every day. Thank you so much.
Reply from Claire Morgan-Parker, Registered Manager at Ivy Gate LodgeThank you for your lovely response, I will ensure that these kind words are passed on to all the staff. In early March 2023, my aunt and my father-in-law became residents. They arrived on separate dates. It was immediately obvious that the rooms were of a high standard and immaculately clean. The staff were professional and very welcoming. Throughout my relatives' stay the high level of service has been
consistent and the staff excellent.
The rooms are maintained to a high standard and the food is very good. I am equally impressed with the level of care and constant attention of all staff.
Unfortunately, my aunt passed away on the 24th of March. The staff managed this with dignity and respect which greatly reassured my family.
I have absolutely no negative comments in respect of Ivy Gate Lodge Care Home. Whilst it is more expensive than other nursing homes, Ivy Gate provides care to the highest standards.

My mum was admitted to Ivy Gate Lodge Care Home following a hospital stay where her condition deteriorated. From the moment we arrived, she was shown kindness and care by each member of staff. The home is spotless, welcoming and comfortable. Catering is excellent. Care given to my mum is exceptionally
good. Staff were understanding and caring during some difficult moments too!
My sister and I both felt cared for by the staff and we were involved in her care at all times. The relationship between the care home and GP is obviously a good one as cross-over care was smooth and organised.
I am happy to say that my mum, a retired nurse, received the care, support and protection that she approved of!

We are very pleased with Ivy Gate Lodge. Since my husband went there - two weeks ago, he looks better, is very settled and is much more interactive than before! Visiting is always a pleasant experience - the staff are very welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble! The surroundings are clean, bright
and airy. It is now his "home", and he is treated by everyone as such.

Manager and the team have shown such compassion and respect towards not only my dad but my family during this difficult time. All the team have gone above and beyond to ensure my dad receives top quality care. Such as going to the shop for a newspaper, arranging for dads chair to be brought in from
home and ordering in his favourite drink every day. My family and I would highly recommend this new, brilliant care home.

Our hearts are broken with the condition of my brother, he needs so much care, understanding and patience. He's been here for almost 3 weeks. Wonderful! All the nurses, carers, housekeeping, catering, secretarial reception, and everyone we have met are kind, compassionate and caring. The manager sets
a wonderful example to everyone, sometimes in very challenging circumstances.
I can thoroughly recommend anyone to look around and consider this excellent Ivy Gate Lodge for your loved ones. Beautiful.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.873)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.873) out of 10 for Ivy Gate Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.873 for Ivy Gate Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (260 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 291 Ratings = 4.873
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ivy Gate Lodge is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
