Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother spent 12 months at Shaw/Miller Houses. During that time, the staff was always helpful, kind, and courteous. They provided dignity and professional care to my Mum who suffered from dementia.
She passed away in the care home with me and my family present. The team was amazing. The entire time
of her passing and beyond.

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
To start on a positive: My mum's room is clean, although when I visit I attend with wipes and wipe over surfaces. Miller House has a few lovely staff. I witnessed recently only one member of staff being on duty/shift at 6pm. This was a horrific visit with my mum as I was very aware of the other 16/17
residents in the lounge left to their own devices. Having walked the corridors to find a carer/senior carer, I then found the staff member that was on duty. Yes I did express my views on the current situation. I was greeted with Yes I'm the only person on duty... scheduled staff have rang in sick and Bloomcare have cut staff hours!
Bloomcare at this point made it my issue! I am addressing this issue directly with Care Quality Commission/Adult Social Care. Yes ShawSide have attempted to contact me, I wasn't able to take the call. The manager works 9/5 like me. Bloomcare have a lot of work to do with staff that display openly they don't want to be there!
Reply from Yvonne Burutsa, General Manager Shawside at Miller House Care HomeWe are sorry that your experience of our service was not positive on this occasion. Please note that the majority of the care we provide is behind closed doors and this can give an impression of staff shortages. We are a regulated service and fully understand our legal responsibility to keep the vulnerable people in our care safe by ensuring safe staffing levels. Thank you for your feedback and your compliment about our care team.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.7 (6.709) out of 10 for Miller House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.5 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.542 for Miller House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (7 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 3.542
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.167 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Miller House Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.167
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
