All residents are assessed by the nursing team to establish we can support their physical and emotional needs and that we have a suitable room with the right peer group, whilst maintaining the correct staffing ratio. Following a disappointing start at another care home, Oakham Grange Care Home was recommended to us.
A bright and airy home with friendly staff from the first point of contact.
Sadly, my mother came to the Grange for end-of-life care. She was treated with dignity and surrounded by people who genuinely
cared. The nurses and care staff kept the family updated both in person and via phone.
Mum was not well enough to take part in any activities, her favourite animal was an owl. The home had a visit from a falconry centre and the activity coordinator made sure that one of the owls visited Mum in her room following the show downstairs.
Mum's appetite declined and although there was a varied food choice, Mum only wanted a banana sandwich! The kitchen staff were more than happy to accommodate this along with other options to try and encourage her to eat other foods.
As a family, we felt that the staff at Oakham Grange not only cared for Mum - but that they supported us during a very difficult time.

Generally my experience was extremely positive. I was made welcome by all the staff who made a special effort to cope with my often demanding needs. The room was relatively spacious, clean and comfortable, the food was varied and well-presented (though the Dining Area noise could make conversation difficult
at times) and the facilities and entertainment on offer made the Grange a pleasant place to be. There were some difficulties during my 4 month stay but these were immediately addressed and efficiently dealt with. The core medical team were particularly helpful but some of the added staff were less familiar with my needs and this led occasionally to less effective care. Nevertheless the friendliness and patient understanding shown by the reception staff, the leadership team, the nurses, cleaners, catering and maintenance department will encourage me to return to the Grange for respite stays in the future. Many thanks.

I have spent five wonderful weeks here meeting some of the nicest people I have ever known. the staff are so helpful and caring, always willing to help and make life easy, but better still they do it with a smile.

I initially visited having researched care homes in the area for my 90 year old father and was so impressed with the environment and warm, professional and friendly welcome. I then visited with my father and as we both agreed this was the first choice the home made it possible for my father to move
in quickly. I have been impressed ever since and every box is ticked for him. He is happier than he’s ever been and has decided that this is the place he wants to stay and we couldn’t be happier

An excellent care home with wonderful, attentive staff who treat residents with respect and individuality. The reception staff are extremely helpful and supportive and have made arranging visits and outings for taking my mother out so easy during a very stressful pandemic lifestyle. My mother is very
happy and content living in the home, and as a result, I am extremely grateful to the superb staff and their attitude!

Having been separated by difficult circumstances for 18-months, my parents moved to Oakham Grange in September 2020 as the first residents. The care they have received has been quite simply exemplary. Mum and Dad had 9-months together before Mum sadly passed away in June. The whole family has felt valued

Oakham Grange provided our mother with a wonderful welcome at a difficult time. The nurses and carers are all so caring, conscientious and fun. Everyone, including the chef, goes out of their way to make our mother’s life as pleasant as possible. The ambience and the facilities at Oakham Grange is excellent.
The rooms are spacious and well equipped and everywhere is kept spotlessly clean. The transition from living in your own home to living in a care home was made as easy as possible and Oakham Grange is an ideal home to spend the latter years of your life.

Our mum had been in hospital with bowel cancer and related complications and had intended to return home, however, it became clear that as her condition rapidly deteriorated that she would not be able to. We wanted somewhere close to her home and her friends and after an initial review of care available
in the immediate area, we approached Oakham Grange. From the initial enquiry to getting her admitted the team were fantastic and played a key role in helping to co-ordinate her discharge from hospital. From the initial enquiry to getting our mum transferred only took a week.
Once at the home they provided great care for our mum and were very supportive during her end of life care. She was very comfortable and happy during her short stay. The facilities and rooms could not be faulted. We would thoroughly recommend Oakham Grange to anyone requiring long term, respite or end of life care.

The Staff at Oakham Grange proved to be caring, kind, considerate and professional looking after my dear (almost sister) at the end of her life. It was only really a short time, 5 weeks, but at the time felt like 5 years, I think they will agree. It wasn't an easy time for any of us. The patient was
'high maintenance', Covid and her declining health put the staff to the test. However, I was thankful that they were able to accept her and particularly being able to visit safely, at a distance, helped us both. It was sad that her health declined so quickly and that she was never able to enjoy the excellent standard of food and the other excellent amenities. It took her a little while to accept that she couldn't have a personal nurse on hand 24/7, but she was beginning to know the great team individually, having recovered from a set back health-wise early in her stay. I really do not know what I or she, would have done if Oakham Grange and the staff, had not been available. Thank you all.

It is early days, but the care home has been absolutely marvellous in taking in my mother.
She was unsettled at first but is getting used to this new setting and she also commends the staff and says the food is fine.
Everyone has been so helpful for me and my wife getting in to see my mother, currently
in the screened meeting room.
It is difficult to go from being with my mother many hours a day to seeing her just for less than an hour a day, but that is life under Covid.
It's great to speak to the staff and get updates on what Mum is now doing, they are very good at reporting and discussing any medical issue straight away.
I have to say that my knowledge is somewhat limited on what life is like for Mum because she is not entirely reliable (for obvious reasons) - she does look reasonably settled and happy as seen from my daily visits.

This has been a very upsetting time actually having my Mum admitted into a care home. But it has been made easier with all the staff being helpful and being able to ring whenever. Mum is settling in now which is a big relief, loves the food and wine! Also, I am able to see Mum through a screen which
is helping with her settling in.

Jesamy Rawlings

Hello, my name is Jesamy, and I am the General Manager here at Oakham Grange. I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse, having qualified at Robert Gordon’s University in 2007. I began my career working in Royal Cornhill Hospital in Aberdeen, in a functional assessment ward for those over 65 years of age who were experiencing acute mental health issues. I then moved on to working in a dementia assessment ward, and following that a challenging behaviour ward for gentlemen over the age of 65. Upon my return from maternity leave, I worked in various settings and then moved back home to Rutland where I took up a position as a nurse in a care home. I gained the experience and knowledge required to become the Clinical Lead nurse, which I absolutely loved.


I am so proud to say that I work at Oakham Grange, having been born in Oakham (back when Rutland Memorial Hospital still had a maternity unit and Dr Brentnall was in charge) and bought up in Uppingham. I am passionate about ensuring that we provide the highest standard of care possible to the people of Rutland and beyond. I believe that people should be treated with the same love and care that I would like to see my own family treated with and I strive to make sure that this is the case for all our residents at Oakham Grange.

At the age of 17, I started my Dip H E in adult nursing at Leeds University. I qualified in 1999 and started my first job in nursing in Ward 15 at Glenfield Hospital, which was a rehabilitation ward.


I worked here for 18 months while waiting for a community nursing post to come up as this is what I really wanted to do. I started as a community nurse in April 2001, and this is where I have spent the last 19 years of my career, all in different guises. I was a triage nurse for 18 months for the community and latterly from 2014 worked for a service called ICS. This service was rolled out to provide a multidisciplinary team approach to enable people at home, rather than being admitted to the hospital. I met my 2 colleagues Liz and Chrissy working here approximately 12 years ago and now a new adventure begins for the 3 of us as nurse practitioners working together to provide nursing care at Oakham Grange. This is very exciting!! To be able to work as a professional with friends whom you have the utmost trust and belief in is very special. My aim as a nurse practitioner and Deputy Manager at Oakham Grange is to provide autonomous, person-centred care for our residents.

My Name is Deepu Stephen, a Chef with over 22 years of experience in creating different cuisine (English, continental, Chinese and Indian etc.). My aim at Oakham Grange is to cook exciting and new things for our residents to enjoy every day. I have worked in some of the most prestigious hotels in the world including; Burj Al Arab Dubai, Jumeirah Beech Hotel Dubai, Hilton Bahrain, InterContinental Bahrain and Taj Hotels in Indian. I was awarded Chef of the year Middle East 2006 and a Gold Medal in the Blackbox competition in Australia. I have worked with some of the most well-known chefs around the world including Chef Garry Rhodes and Chef Paul Bocuse to name just a few. I like to spend time with my wife and three children in my spare time and I also run a cooking channel on YouTube.

I am so pleased to have recently joined Oakham Grange as Head Housekeeper. My previous role was in Housekeeping for 11 years at a Therapeutic residential school for boys and girls with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Although this is a change in my work environment, I bring enthusiasm, care, compassion and high standards to this role. I will endeavour to work alongside this great team we have and support the working ethics of Oakham Grange.

I’m a time-served carpenter of some 40 years, the last 10 being dedicated to working within the care sector. It’s my responsibility to carry out maintenance and regular testing to make Oakham Grange a safe and pleasant place to live. I’m here to make the home personalised and homely for each resident we support.


I live with my partner in Oakham, we moved here 3 years ago to allow us to enjoy life in a rural setting; Oakham gives us all of this and more. We also have an allotment plot where we enjoy growing various things.
