We were in a position where we had to find a care home for my mum who had Parkinsons.
She moved in in April 2025 and settled in well, she liked the staff.
My dad also lived there for the last 3 weeks of his life so they got to see each other for a while every day.
Most of the staff are lovely but the food did not live up to the website's promise. You see the photos and think "wow" but I found them to be a bit "school dinner".
The sweet shop was limited and underwhelming.
My mum never got to experience the gardens and only had one day out before she died (a fast food restaurant and a coffee chain) because they didn't have the staff or space for her on day trips as she needed a wheelchair but she made full use of the hairdresser. (Never underestimate having your hair washed)
I also felt at times they were understaffed, 1 carer was clearly distracted and one was downright rude to me.

They need to remember people are paying a lot of money to be there, regardless of age or incapacity.

Rossendale House is a modern, purpose-built care home which provides a very safe, comfortable living space. All the safety measures and procedures are in place. The staff are all very friendly and approachable and indicates a good level of training and experience. Moving my other into Rossendall House was surprisingly easy with any issues being dealt with quickly. It's always easy to identify who to speak to if anything concerns me.

My mother has been a resident of Rossendale House for just over a year now. She is very well looked after and has a good relationship with all staff members. She has just celebrated her 100th birthday and I cannot compliment the staff enough for their kindness and thoughtfulness in making sure she had the best day possible.

This care home looked after me for a month in April & May of this year after I'd had a double hip operation.

It was a beautiful place and as they say it is better than lots of hotels I've stayed in. I was lucky enough to stay in one of the larger rooms on the front. The care staff couldn't do enough for you. If I had to go in permanently this is the place I'd like to be although it is about 10 miles from my home town. I've never wanted to go into a care home but being there has helped me to know where I want to go if I get to not be able to stay at home.

The care that the staff afforded to my mother during her period of time as a resident and during her final hours was exemplary. They went above and beyond.
Her room was beautifully appointed and she was able to bring her favourite chair and she was allowed to hang paintings on the walls.

The food didn't match the website's expectations. The home was aware of this issue and worked hard to resolve it.

Overall Experience

Our relative was in a most beautiful suite with large airy bedroom and offset lounge with en-suite bathroom with bath and wet room shower - all incredibly clean and modern and stunning views over the moors, but much more important was the quality of the entire staff - from the senior managers through the clinical care and cleaning staff there wasn't a single person who wasn't focused on the needs of the residents. There were some challenging behaviour in some of the residents always met with patience and forbearance and it never impinged on the non cognitively impaired residents. The meal times could be taken communally in beautiful dining rooms with other new friends or (as in breakfast) taken in the residents room. When our relative was taken very ill the community healthcare team supported the staff in the home so that no hospital admission became necessary. They do a superb job.

Mum was a resident at Rossendale House from May 2024 until she died there Sept 2024. The care she received throughout was superb and of the highest standard. I'm a health care professional and Chair of a hospice and I can guarantee the staff and facilities are incredible. The quality of facilities and standard of staff are remarkable. The end of life experience and care given was superb. Many many thanks to everyone.

Garden party on Wednesday 21st of August. The carers treated the residents with respect and compassion. They treated the residents as individuals as they encouraged participation within each resident's comfort zone. The more vocal residents were treated with kindness, patience and humour. It can't be easy to look after people with such diverse needs and I feel really lucky that my mum is being looked after by such a kind, capable and caring team. Thank you.

Rossendale House is an excellent home. The bedrooms/ensuites are bright, spacious, modern and clean. The food is amazing with plenty of choice. There are lots of fun activities in the comfortable lounge areas and relatives are always made welcome and encouraged to join in. There is a good ration of staff and they are efficient and kind. Physically mum has improved 100% with such good 24-hour care. It has been a tremendous relief to find a home where I know my mother is safe and well cared for!

My mum has come on leaps and bounds since being a resident 9 months ago. She has made so many friends and has picked up new skills whilst living in her safe abode. The care staff are fantastic with her and always have time for mum. The Housekeepers are excellent at their work. The home is spotless and mum’s room is turned down every day. The head chef and her colleagues produce outstanding food, plus even do requests from the residents. The Front of House is very warm and welcoming, again nothing too much trouble. It’s a lovely community mum has here, as she was by herself a year ago with no visitors apart from carers 30 minute visits every day. Now she is a new mum with a brand new outlook on life. Thank you to all the staff for their hard and outstanding work.

Sarah Salvin
Sarah SalvinJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2025

Before joining Care UK, I was a registered manager with another care home provider, but I’m really enjoying the change. As well as a host of mandatory training, I have also completed training in dementia, mental health first aid and palliative care.

In my previous role, I implemented numerous improvements which led to a positive outcome with the Care Quality Commission. It was incredibly rewarding to be able to support the team and ultimately provide a better experience for residents and their families.

We are here to ensure that residents receive safe, high-quality, person-centred care. To do this role effectively, you need to be compassionate and empathetic, ensuring residents, relatives, and colleagues feel listened to, valued, and supported. Strong leadership skills are essential to guide the team, make informed decisions, and maintain high standards of care.

It is also important to remain calm under pressure, especially when managing challenging situations or emergencies, while continuing to provide reassurance to others. Good communication skills are vital for working collaboratively with residents, families, healthcare professionals, and colleagues. Fairness and professionalism help to build trust and create a positive working environment where everyone feels respected. Finally, being friendly and approachable encourages open communication and supports team morale.

For me, the best part of the day is seeing happy colleagues and happy residents. A positive atmosphere within the home makes such a difference to everyone’s wellbeing, and it is rewarding to see residents engaged, smiling, and feeling comfortable in their environment.

I also enjoy seeing staff working well together and feeling appreciated – a team that feels supported means better outcomes for residents. When both residents and colleagues are enjoying their day, it reflects the caring and welcoming culture we aim to create within the home. What makes me most proud in my role is seeing residents live life to the full, knowing they feel happy, safe, and cared for.

Outside of work, I enjoy going for walks and spending quality time travelling with my family in our camper van. I also love caring for my pets, which keeps me busy and brings me a lot of happiness and relaxation.
