I have been visiting a resident at Sandford House for over three years. The staff are efficient and kind. It has a happy positive feeling about it, the manager goes that extra mile to make it a happy home.

Sandford House, Chesterfield Road, managed by the manageress and the Owner, is well run and managed with services above and beyond those funded by the authorities at times. Feedback is encouraged and listened too, as appropriate with the interests of the individual and many other residents taken into
account. Staff are well managed and trained and are aware of the high expectations of the managers. The manageress even comes in at the weekends, at times, to organize and give support and answers email and mobile calls without delay. Every attempt is made to ensure that Sandford House is home from home for residents and all needs taken into account.
I would recommend this home to other relatives and indeed future residents. Care and compassion is very evident from all staff and managers, well done to all and a big thank you!! You all deserve to be praised. Their CQC report is well deserved.

My sister has been a resident at Sandford House for 4 years. Earlier this year she was sadly diagnosed with motor neurone disease. My sister regards Sandford House as her home and desperately wanted to stay there, in most cases she would have been sent to a clinical care home. However, the staff at
Sandford House have an extraordinary commitment to their residents and chose to take on the enormous task of caring for her. In the last few months, they have undertaken training and research to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills needed to manage motor neurone disease. All the staff at Sandford House have had to work extremely hard, take on duties they wouldn't normally be expected to do and all of them with passion, dedication, determination and a level of care and kindness above and beyond any care I have seen before. Words cannot express how amazing everyone at Sandford House has been and no amount of thanks will ever be enough. In my opinion, Sandford House provides a model of exemplary care that should be used as a standard for all care homes to look to and learn from.

Inspection ratings
We rate most services according to how safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led they are, using four levels:
Outstanding - the service is performing exceptionally well.
Good - the service is performing well and meeting our expectations.
Requires improvement - the service isn't performing as well as it should and we have told the service how it must improve.
Inadequate - the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service.
No rating/under appeal/rating suspended - there are some services which we can't rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider. Suspended ratings are being reviewed by us and will be published soon.
Ticks and crosses
We don't rate every type of service. For services we haven't rated we use ticks and crosses to show whether we've asked them to take further action or taken enforcement action against them.
There's no need for the service to take further action. If this service has not had a CQC inspection since it registered with us, our judgement may be based on our assessment of declarations and evidence supplied by the service.
The service must make improvements.
At least one standard in this area was not being met when we inspected the service and we have taken enforcement action.
