Eamon and Hazel opened their Nursing Home in Tavistock, Abbotsfield Hall Nursing Home, in 1984. They ran it for 30 years with their partners Pam and Graham. Hazel was the Matron, with Pam and Eamon doing the Payroll, Accounts, H&S and maintenance with Graham. They helped their sons, Robert and Peter, set up The Yelverton Residential Home in 2016 and then The Long Brook in 2021. They enjoy home improvements - painting and decorating, choosing soft furnishings, and gardening. Having retired from the Care and Business management side, they are now the gardening team at The Long Brook, and you will often see them planting the hanging baskets and pots, mowing the lawn or on a tip run with the garden waste. They still keep a close eye on the running of the home and give invaluable feedback when they spot something!
Robert is the Founder and Registered Manager of The Long Brook Residential Home, which he proudly established in 2021.
His journey in healthcare began as a Carer within hospital settings, where he developed a strong foundation in compassionate, hands-on care. He then progressed to a Physiotherapy Technician role at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, working across multiple departments, including Stroke Rehabilitation and Care of the Elderly. Building on this experience, Robert went on to train and practise as a nurse, working in Trauma & Orthopaedics and Cardiology in Bristol hospitals.
In 2011, Robert returned to Devon to support the management of his family’s nursing home, Abbotsfield Hall in Tavistock.
Care has always been central to Robert’s life. His parents have successfully run Abbotsfield Hall Nursing Home since 1983, giving him a lifelong understanding of the sector and its values.
He continues this commitment alongside his brother, Peter, a former paramedic who opened The Yelverton Residential Home—The Long Brook’s sister home—in 2016.
Robert brings a wealth of clinical and managerial experience, along with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. He is dedicated to creating a warm, supportive, and homely environment where residents feel valued and respected, and where staff feel supported to provide the best possible care.
After 15 years in care home management, Robert has stepped back from the day-to-day running of the home and focuses on the business, quality assurance, and supporting his managers within the home.
Outside of work, Robert enjoys camping, spending time outdoors, keeping chickens, and homeschooling his daughter, Genevieve.
Carrie – Office Manager
Carrie has been part of our journey since day one, joining us in 2021 as a Senior Care Assistant when we first opened our doors. Her passion for care and her incredible organisational skills soon led her to become our Administrator, and today she’s the friendly face behind the smooth running of our office as Office Manager.
With over 15 years of experience in the care industry, Carrie truly understands what it takes to make residents feel at home. She loves building strong relationships with families and supporting our amazing team. Outside of work, Carrie enjoys spending time with her family and relaxing with a good book.

He started at The Long Brook 4 years ago as a senior carer and worked his way up to Team Leader, then Care Manager, thanks to his positive energy and intelligent approach to care. Anna is one of our excellent, experienced carers, ever stalwart, always cheerful, often dancing! When she is not providing high-quality care to our residents, she is often found speeding about the home or entertaining the residents. A very popular member of our team, she enjoys helping Kelly with the activities, especially music and quizzes. In her spare time, she enjoys reviving house plants, visiting her caravan in Cornwall or supporting her granddaughter playing rugby (currently undergoing trials for England!)
Joanna has been an invaluable member of our team since joining us from the Philippines in early 2023. As a Senior Carer, she demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills and plays a key role in supporting our Team Leaders. Joanna is highly competent in administering medications and is trusted to take charge of the home when required in the absence of senior staff.
Since joining, she has undertaken extensive training, further strengthening her skills and contribution to the team.
Joanna is currently on maternity leave following the birth of her baby, and we look forward to warmly welcoming her back to the home soon.
Kelly recently joined The Longbrook Residential Home as our Activities Coordinator, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous roles as Team Leader, Carer, and Care Coordinator within the care industry. Her creativity and enthusiasm make her fantastic at engaging residents and planning meaningful activities that brighten their days.
