The Long Brook Residential Home has a Review Score of 9.8 (9.763) out of 10, based on 19 reviews in the last 2 years.
Over all time The Long Brook Residential Home has 37 reviews.
Longbrook staff are caring, kind and engage closely with everyone in their care. It would be difficult to find a home that offers more - every key date in the calendar (like VE Day, Burns NIght etc) is celebrated with a special event, food, or outside entertainment.
Without being intrusive the staff work hard to ensure their "guests" are comfortable and stimulated by regular activities and trips. Longbrook is as close to a "home from home" as its possible to get, they take every opportunity to engage with residents' families and friends. We feel extremely lucky to have found Longbrook and comfortable knowing that our relative is in the capable and caring hands of everyone there.
Thank you for this lovely review. It truly means a great deal to us. We are so pleased to hear that not only our residents are happy, but that families also feel confident and reassured with the care we provide. Your kind words are very much appreciated by the whole team.
Absolutely wonderful residential home, the staff go above and beyond to settle loved ones and care for them wholeheartedly. The love and care they show is unbelievable. The activities to involve family too are amazing
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We take pride in providing person-centred care and activities to all of our residents, and it is wonderful to hear such positive feedback. I will be sure to share your kind comments with our team.
Review from daughter of service user.
We are so pleased that mum continues to enjoy her time with us as a day visitor, and it was an absolute pleasure to have mum stay for respite as well, all staff were a little sad when she went home.
Your kind words will be shared with the whole team.
I have been so very impressed with the level of activities this home supplies. Both mind and body are looked after and the welcome to join in with all activities is touching. The staff are all such caring folk.
Thank you for this lovely review. Activities are such an important part of life in our care home, and we truly understand how much they contribute to our residents' day-to-day wellbeing. Thank you again for your kind words - i will pass this over to our team.
Longbrook staff are amazing, very caring, interactive, always supportive and do so much for the service users.
I would recommend this beautiful happy and safe place to anyone who needs to be cared for.
We always look forward to welcoming your mother-in-law back. She fits in here so naturally, and it genuinely feels like she's never been away. It's a pleasure to care for her.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience
Long brook came highly recommended by a supplier to them and also social services plus the lovely feel and first impressions made it an easy choice to make for him.
Staff were always friendly when i visited and Dad was so happy there, he did complain about the food but it would never be the same as when i just cooked for him every day.
all the staff are fantastic there but i have to mention Anna, Vicky and Reece xx
always clean , no call bell constantly ringing and seemingly constant checks on the residents
i cant thank them all enough !!
Thank you so much for this lovely review. We understand how difficult the decision can be to move into a care home, and we're truly grateful that you entrusted us with your dad's care. Our priority is always to make The Long Brook feel like a real home-not just for the people we support, but for...
She has received excellent care and attention from all staff at Longbrook who with us have reassessed her as her needs changed over time leading to changes in her care plan .
The home is lovely; the environment is very comfortable, but , most of all it is the super staff who make the home by providing Mum with excellent care, meeting her physical and psychological needs.
The team at Longbrook support Mum with her day/night care needs, provide good meals and keep the home clean and tidy, maintaining and renovating the home and organising stimulating activities. It is a happy home.
We are delighted that Mum lives at Longbrook.
Thank you so much for your kind words EH, I will pass this back to our team. It's a pleasure looking after mum, she is a dear lady and the family are always a welcome sight within the home and are certainly part of our team. Thank you for all your expertise and help with our activities programme over the years too!
Mum has been @ Long Brook since July 25 she has settled in well. They staff are lovely. The food is good as are the lovely homemade cakes.
We're really pleased to hear that your mum has settled in well since joining us in July, and it's lovely to know she is happy and comfortable at Longbrook. Your kind words about our staff mean a great deal to us, as does your positive feedback about the food and our homemade cakes - they're always a favourite.
There is activities most days which is good. The food is all fresh and home cooked.
We're delighted to hear that mum enjoyed her respite stay so much that she decided to make Longbrook her home. Knowing that she feels happy, supported, and welcomed by our team really means a lot to us. We're also pleased you've enjoyed the range of activities we offer and our fresh, home-cooked meals
The Long Brook residential home was the perfect find for our dear mum. The minute we stepped through the door on our first viewing, we knew it was a homely home. Mum enjoys the activities when she wants to join in with the other residents or when she wants her quiet time. She enjoys the view from her room. The manager and all the team are friendly and professional. The lovely homemade food is another aspect that makes Long Brook a great choice.
Thank you for this lovely review. I'm glad to hear that your mum is settled and happy living here with us. Our team works hard to ensure it's a place they can truly call home.
This care home is excellent. My mother has settled in well and made friends with other residents. Thestaff are all friendly and helpful. The food is all homemade and very good. Her room is lovely with a wonderful view from Monday to Friday. The gardens are well laid out and accessible. The home is very clean. I would choose to live here if I needed residential care.

The care provided for mum was excellent, the staff were all friendly, approachable and helpful. The whole process, from the initial enquiry, the visit, admission and admin. were all dealt with in an understanding and sympathetic manner. Mum was very happy with the location, her room, facilities, activities and care provided by all of the staff. I have no hesitation in recommending Long Brook.
Thank you for this lovely review, I will pass these kinds words onto our staff.
It was Mum's first time away for us. She was apprehensive but the staff put her at ease. She had a problem with her blood pressure meds but the staff and doctor sorted it out. She had a fright on her first night but it was sorted and no more trouble. Everyone was very kind and gentle with her and she felt safe and cared for. Hopefully she can visit again in May. Thank you to everyone who looked after Mum.
Thank you for this kind review. We are glad Mum felt safe and happy during her first stay with us. We will look forward to welcoming her back in the future.

One of the plus points is the activities that she is able to attend. She loves them and wishes they were available at weekends too! The staff are really friendly and she enjoys her little chats with them. They listen to her, which is important.
Her health needs are well catered for. Overall a wise decision to place her there.

As always, staff are very helpful kind and caring. They treat residents with respect, and offer an excellent service. They organise a lot of daily activities and some trips out. Always willing to answer any questions.

Thank you for this lovely feedback, our team will be pleased.
Friendly, happy and professionally run. You get one chance of a first impression and I was impressed. The whole establishment had a great 'feel' about it and I knew it was the place to bring my mum. Everyone went about with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. I am eternally grateful for how they looked after my mother.
Thank you so much for leaving us this wonderful review!
Mum has been in Long Brook for over 2 years and is very happy there. She tells everyone "she is well looked after and the food is good". The atmosphere in the home is very friendly.
Thank you so much for leaving us this wonderful review!
She feels safe & has made friends with residents & staff. She absolutely loves the entertainment because she loves dancing & all the activities that are provided. Nothing seems too much trouble.
I don't live in Plymouth but I call my mum when she is there & the staff couldn't be more helpful & friendly over the phone.
Thank you for looking after her so well.
We would love nothing more than to make her a permanent resident!

Eamon and Hazel opened their Nursing Home in Tavistock, Abbotsfield Hall Nursing Home, in 1984. They ran it for 30 years with their partners Pam and Graham. Hazel was the Matron, with Pam and Eamon doing the Payroll, Accounts, H&S and maintenance with Graham. They helped their sons, Robert and Peter, set up The Yelverton Residential Home in 2016 and then The Long Brook in 2021. They enjoy home improvements - painting and decorating, choosing soft furnishings, and gardening. Having retired from the Care and Business management side, they are now the gardening team at The Long Brook, and you will often see them planting the hanging baskets and pots, mowing the lawn or on a tip run with the garden waste. They still keep a close eye on the running of the home and give invaluable feedback when they spot something!

Robert is the Founder and Registered Manager of The Long Brook Residential Home, which he proudly established in 2021.
His journey in healthcare began as a Carer within hospital settings, where he developed a strong foundation in compassionate, hands-on care. He then progressed to a Physiotherapy Technician role at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, working across multiple departments, including Stroke Rehabilitation and Care of the Elderly. Building on this experience, Robert went on to train and practise as a nurse, working in Trauma & Orthopaedics and Cardiology in Bristol hospitals.
In 2011, Robert returned to Devon to support the management of his family’s nursing home, Abbotsfield Hall in Tavistock.
Care has always been central to Robert’s life. His parents have successfully run Abbotsfield Hall Nursing Home since 1983, giving him a lifelong understanding of the sector and its values.
He continues this commitment alongside his brother, Peter, a former paramedic who opened The Yelverton Residential Home—The Long Brook’s sister home—in 2016.
Robert brings a wealth of clinical and managerial experience, along with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. He is dedicated to creating a warm, supportive, and homely environment where residents feel valued and respected, and where staff feel supported to provide the best possible care.
After 15 years in care home management, Robert has stepped back from the day-to-day running of the home and focuses on the business, quality assurance, and supporting his managers within the home.
Outside of work, Robert enjoys camping, spending time outdoors, keeping chickens, and homeschooling his daughter, Genevieve.

Carrie has been part of our journey since day one, joining us in 2021 as a Senior Care Assistant when we first opened our doors. Her passion for care and her incredible organisational skills soon led her to become our Administrator, and today she’s the friendly face behind the smooth running of our office as Office Manager.
With over 15 years of experience in the care industry, Carrie truly understands what it takes to make residents feel at home. She loves building strong relationships with families and supporting our amazing team. Outside of work, Carrie enjoys spending time with her family and relaxing with a good book.

Simon has been an integral part of The Long Brook Residential Home since before its doors opened, ensuring everything was ready for our first residents. With a strong focus on safety and compliance, Simon excels in risk assessments and health and safety management, helping to maintain a secure and comfortable environment for everyone.
Simon is a retired Royal Marine Commando.
Outside of work, Simon enjoys outdoor activities and water sports, embracing adventure whenever he can.

Reece is the youngest member of Long Brook's management team. He started at The Long Brook 4 years ago as a senior carer and worked his way up to Team Leader, then Care Manager, thanks to his positive energy and intelligent approach to care. He is completing his Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care. He leads our excellent team of carers and is responsible for care planning and medication management.
In his spare time, he enjoys live music, travel and running.

Anna is one of our excellent, experienced carers, ever stalwart, always cheerful, often dancing! When she is not providing high-quality care to our residents, she is often found speeding about the home or entertaining the residents. A very popular member of our team, she enjoys helping Kelly with the activities, especially music and quizzes. In her spare time, she enjoys reviving house plants, visiting her caravan in Cornwall or supporting her granddaughter playing rugby (currently undergoing trials for England!)

Joanna has been an invaluable member of our team since joining us from the Philippines in early 2023. As a Senior Carer, she demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills and plays a key role in supporting our Team Leaders. Joanna is highly competent in administering medications and is trusted to take charge of the home when required in the absence of senior staff.
Since joining, she has undertaken extensive training, further strengthening her skills and contribution to the team.
Joanna is currently on maternity leave following the birth of her baby, and we look forward to warmly welcoming her back to the home soon.

Kelly recently joined The Longbrook Residential Home as our Activities Coordinator, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous roles as Team Leader, Carer, and Care Coordinator within the care industry. Her creativity and enthusiasm make her fantastic at engaging residents and planning meaningful activities that brighten their days. In addition to her care expertise, Kelly is also a talented florist, adding a personal and artistic touch to our home.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and exploring her passion for flowers.
