UK's first 'Consultant Admiral Nurse'

Agincare, in conjunction with Dementia UK, have appointed Agincare’s Jo Palmer as the UK’s first 'Consultant Admiral Nurse' as part of the drive to push up the standards of care for high dependency dementia care and clinical nursing care across Agincare’s 12 care homes, live-in care and home care services.

From 1 July 2014, Jo will take up the official and nationally recognised title. She will be receiving regular professional clinical development and support, linking in with Dementia UK and the Admiral Nurse network across the country. Jo will be operating out of both Chalgrove Care & Nursing Home (Branskome Park) and Gainsborough Care & Nursing Home (Swanage).

Admiral Nurses work with families, carers and people with dementia, in the community and other settings. Working collaboratively with other professionals, Admiral Nurses seek to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their carers. They use a range of interventions that help people live positively with the condition and develop skills to improve communication and maintain relationships.
