A Bournemouth care home marked its milestone 10th anniversary with an afternoon of singing, dancing and celebration alongside residents, families and members of the local community.
Wickmeads care home, based in Tuckton, which is owned and operated by not-for-profit charity Care South, hosted a garden party to mark a decade since the home opened. Residents including Eileen, who celebrates her 101st birthday later this year, their families and loved ones, and local visitors joined in the celebrations.
In the home’s gardens, party guests enjoyed afternoon tea which had been prepared by the home’s chefs, with live music provided by Jo Egan, Activities Assistant at the home, who performed a range of music from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Tracey Walker, Home Manager for Wickmeads, said: “Wickmeads has been part of the local community for 10 years, so it was important for us to mark the occasion with the people who make the home such a special place. We were thrilled to be joined by so many people who all have their own special memories and links to Wickmeads over the years.
She added: “It was a pleasure to see all our residents having fun, including our oldest resident, Eileen, who had a fantastic time singing and dancing in her chair to the music. We are already looking forward to seeing what the next decade has store for us in our fantastic, vibrant home, where every resident is treated as an individual and is enabled and supported to thrive in our care.”
Wickmeads provides residential, respite and dementia care. A dedicated activities team organises a daily programme of events to bring residents together to socialise and build friendships.
Other recent activities that residents have enjoyed at Wickmeads include visits to local beaches, a performance in the home from Angel Arts Group to mark International Dance Day, games and reading with pupils from Christchurch Junior School and a visit from Mr Kelloggs the miniature horse.
