Residents at Astley View Care Home in Chorley have been enjoying the home's regular inclusive art sessions, where painting provides an opportunity to explore colour, shape and creativity in a relaxed and supportive environment.
During a recent session, residents worked with a range of colours and techniques, approaching the activity in their own individual way. There was no set theme and no expectation to produce a particular piece of artwork, allowing everyone to take part in a way that suited them.
The sessions are designed to be accessible for residents with different abilities and interests. Whether someone paints regularly or is picking up a brush for the first time in many years, the emphasis is on taking part rather than the finished result.
Christina Durnan, Home Manager at Astley View Care Home, said: "Our art sessions are about giving residents the freedom to enjoy being creative without feeling there is a right or wrong way to do it. Everyone approaches the activity differently, and that's what makes each session unique." Astley View Care Home provides residential, dementia, respite and end of life care in Chorley. Alongside personalised care, residents can take part in a varied programme of activities that reflects their interests, preferences and individual wellbeing.
