Summer garden dream comes true at Stormont Lodge

The team, residents, families and the local community around Stormont Lodge care home in Blairgowrie came together to celebrate the transformation of their glorious garden with a special party last weekend, 20 June.

Following a significant accessibility upgrade carried out by BCG last summer, which involved the installation of a new ramp to ensure the impressive outdoor space can be enjoyed by all residents, the garden continues to flourish with a further series of exciting developments.

A fully furnished patio has now been introduced, creating the perfect place to relax in the sunshine, which arrived in all its glory at the opening party. The home’s residents can also enjoy a brand-new, on-site shop, the Stormview Store, where they can pick up sweet treats while spending time outdoors, and sit and eat them on the swing set!

The expanded greenspace also features a new polytunnel and raised plant boxes, giving residents, who have won the care group’s in-house BCG in Bloom competition in recent years, even more opportunities to enjoy gardening and grow their own plants.

Home Administrator, Kirsty Fairer, who helped oversee the project, said: “Inspired by our Home Manager Dawn’s vision to make our huge outdoor garden space available to everyone, our Maintenance Officer, Gordon put in an incredible amount of work. He dug out areas for slabs, set up the polytunnel, built the shop, and so much more.

“Local landscaping businesses and relatives generously donated materials and gave up their evenings and weekends to help bring everything together. The polytunnel, shop and the swing set were all purchased thanks to funds raised by the home over the past year.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the results. It looks fantastic and is ready for summer. The residents are already loving spending quality time out there,”

The celebration marked not only the completion of a major project for the home, but also the strong sense of community that surrounds it.
