Accepting that mum needed full-time care was an incredibly emotional time for us. From the moment we settled her into Heathwood, we knew that she was in excellent hands. Staff genuinely care for mum and her well-being. A lot of care and attention is shown to her, and everyone puts so much effort into making Heathwood a "home" for its residents, not just a care home.

My dad has lived at Heathwood for over 5 years, and the care he receives is wonderful. The manager is so lovely and approachable and really cares about each resident. Everyone is so professional but so warm, and again, nothing is too much trouble. My dad can tell me himself he is very happy, has everything he wants, loves the staff, the food is amazing, he couldn't feel any more content than he does. A very welcoming, happy place to visit too.

My Mum had been at Heathwood for just over 2 years. During this time I have nothing but praise for all the staff, from the cleaners who keep the home clean and tidy, the clean clothes that are returned daily, the chefs and of course all the care staff. The food is homecooked and always plentiful, the homemade cakes are amazing and definitely something my Mum was very keen on. The garden was a calm and nice space to sit in the sun with plenty of shade available when needed. The singer that visits on a Tuesday afternoon is always popular and you can see that the residents really enjoy the music. If Mum was unwell they would always contact the GP quickly and contact the family to make us aware.

My Mum was never one for joining in if activities were on, the staff would always try, but she preferred to sit and watch. As Mums dementia declined she could be difficult to deal with, but the staff were always patient and allowed Mum to do things in her own time, including a lye in! A home from home!

I would highly recommend Fig House. It felt like a home not an institution. The carers were all friendly and welcoming. The residents were all treated as individuals and were supported in all their activities. Management were very present around the home and knew all their residents well. My mum was only there for a short time before she died. They managed the whole situation beautifully and and I was very glad that her last days were there both for mum and me.

Mum was at Fig House for 4 years during that time she was well cared for by all the staff. They were not just caring they were also compassionate, which mattered enormously through daily activities and entertainment. She enjoyed a good quality of life she was always so positive in her comments about her surroundings, and the staff. Her dignity was paramount to them and her individuality. I am so grateful we chose Fig House. Thank you all.

My mum came into Heathwood for respite when it was lockdown, and when Mum became more unwell in January 2023, Mum went from hospital into Heathwood again for respite. After a best interest meeting, it was decided Mum needed full-time care. We chose to keep Mum in Heathwood because of the amazing team that work here and the facilities. I have been in care homes that have no tea-making facilities where residents can help themselves. They also have lots of activities.

The manager is amazing and always available to help and answer any questions. All the staff are excellent, and treat all residents with respect and dignity. Nothing is too much trouble. Like one big happy family. Relatives/visitors are always made to feel welcome. There are activities to keep residents interested. Rooms are extremely good. Meals are all home-cooked and first-class. Homemade cakes every afternoon with tea and coffee. The garden is lovely and accessible to all at any time. I am always kept fully informed about everything to do with my husband. The care and understanding is second to none. Recommend Heathwood 100%. Would choose no other care home.

Overall Experience

Heathwood is a wonderful home to live in. It is fresh, clean, homely, and friendly, with amazing staff who treat every resident with respect and lots of love and as individuals with their own needs. It's a very happy place with a lovely atmosphere. My father-in-law is very well looked after and is thriving. He has been there nearly four years, and his words are 'I'm content and happy. The food is excellent, and I'm so well looked after.' The manager treats everyone as her own family, as does the deputy, and nothing is too much trouble. Each member of staff across the whole home is efficient, warm and friendly, and you can see how fond they are of every resident and all love what they do. Myself and my wife and all the family have always been made so welcome, in fact, my wife calls it her 2nd home. We are so grateful for everything they do. The great-grandchildren are making so many memories there with their grandad; they enjoy their visits, especially the parties. I would recommend Heathwood 100% to anyone.

Review of Alice House from Claire V (Daughter of Resident) published on 14 November 2023 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My father hasn't been there very long and has come from London. It has taken him a while to settle in but he's definitely getting there. He likes to help out with washing up etc., I like how they encourage the service users to participate in day-to-day activities to help with keeping their independence.
Staff have been so helpful and kind, they have taken the time to get to know my father and his needs. He has already made friends with other service users and the staff.
We knew, as a family, that this was the place for him and could cater for his needs, couldn't have wished for a better place for him to be.

They have activities, dancing, parties, singers in and a minibus to go out which my father looks forward to.
