The building needs a refurbishment, wooden windows need re varnishing, the carpets need replacing with water proof flooring. The home always smells of urine, short staffed meaning they don't have time to care for people. This is the second floor.

Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing Home

Thank you for your review, I can confirm that the windows and floors are currently under review with a view to being replaced. We as a home endeavour to make sure that it is clean and that all due care and attention is given to the residents at all time, with this in mind we are very mindful of staffing levels and always ensure there are enough staff to accommodate the residents needs. As you can appreciate there are times where it may be busier and the staff less visible as are in the residents rooms however they are still available and are doing their upmost to ensure care is given to everyone.

My Dad was admitted into Northfield after a few month's stay in the hospital. Even though he had a good week...he deteriorated rapidly from ongoing long term health issues and unfortunately passed away.
The staff were amazing, nothing seemed too much trouble and my Dad was looked after during his short
stay.
The staff acted professionally tending to my Dad after he passed and helped me and my daughter tremendously. Thank you and can recommend for sure.

Following fast track referral from hospital to a nursing home my uncle could not have been placed any better than he was than at Northfield's . The care, compassion and friendship he received there as his condition worsened from his terminal illness was first class and is something that he nor I will
ever forget and will forever by thankful. It is probably unfair of me to single out any staff by name because all of those involved in his day to day care whatever their role played a really important part in making his stay at Northfield's as comfortable and friendly as it was
Thank you all

Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing Home

Thank you for your kind and honest review, to hear your uncle had the care and support he needed right to the end is something we are proud of and your acknowledgment is testament to this . Your thanks will be passed onto all the staff of which will be greatly appreciated, many condolences for your loss and wish you all the best going forward.

Northfield is a Dreadful place. A dumping ground is the best way to describe the place. My friend was discharged from the Hospital for assessment here, definitely avoid as I can't recommend at all.

Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing Home

We are saddened to see this review especially after the interactions you had with the staff of which any and all complaints were handled immediately and processes followed to make sure that these would not arise further. Whilst your friend was admitted to our care from the hospital all due care and attention was given to her and her needs with staff facilitating her requests of which there were many. We acknowledged complaints that were made by yourself and followed the correct procedures involving Adult Social Care of whom dismissed the complaints as evidence provided by the home proved they were unfounded and embellished. Throughout your friends stay we as a company were open and transparent and acted with a duty of candour at all times. We take every due care and attention with every resident and make sure that all processes are followed so to see this review is somewhat disheartening to say the least given the thanks that were given by yourself personally to the staff upon leaving.

I just want to thank all the amazing staff who have looked after my mum so well during her very recent almost 6-week stay in an NHS Intermediate Care bed at Westbourne House. Nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond to help our family celebrate Mum's 90th birthday in December, giving
us exclusive use of the dining room and putting up decorations for a little Afternoon Tea and cake. It was Mum's first experience of being in a care home and although initially she found it hard to adjust, we all know how much better and more mobile she is again after her time spent at Westbourne House and much more able to return home today with community carers and family support. Thanks again for treating our mum as anyone would wish their loved ones to be when they need some extra care and support. We are very grateful.

My mother stayed for a few weeks on intermediate care following a stay in hospital. The staff were compassionate, caring and thoughtful, and tended to her every need. The team leader on red zone was exceptional and lead a team of carers in an excellent manner. My only dissatisfaction was with the GP
allocated to this care home, who didn't listen to my concerns or discuss medication changes to my mother, which in the end culminated in an emergency readmission to hospital, but throughout the care staff reacted with true professionalism.

Star Quality: The city woke up to a blanket of snow this morning, with many roads impassable or difficult to drive on. One staff nurse who should have been on a day off saw the weather and immediately set off for work to help, knowing she would be needed. Others struggled in, however, they could get
there, to support their vulnerable residents. Commitment above and beyond and representing everything we value about the NHS. Thank you.

My Grandad was admitted here for rehabilitation but unfortunately he went downhill and refused to participate in any rehabilitation and deteriorated. He was refusing food and taking very little to drink despite the staff encouraging and helping him. He became 'challenging' at times but the staff here
were so nice to him, he was always clean and well looked after. Unfortunately he sadly passed away but during the time preceding this we were really well looked after as a family, all the staff were really helpful and nothing was too much. We are obviously devastated to lose my Grandad but it gives us a lot of peace knowing that during his last days he was so well looked after and respected by everybody working there, he passed peacefully and in comfort thanks to all the staff looking after him.

My mother was admitted on 24/09/2024 and died on 26/09/2024 (end-of-life care).
On admission, every member of staff introduced themselves and nothing was too much trouble.
Within that short time, my mother was treated with dignity and respect. On her last day we were also treated accordingly and what
we needed to do next was carefully explained.

The last time my poor nan was well enough to have a conversation and eat a proper meal was the day before she was sent from the hospital to this God-forsaken hell hole. The evening she arrived there she rang my mum to tell her she had fallen. The next day we got to her we found her completely out of
it, she hadn't been out of bed and she hadn't eaten a thing all day. She was unresponsive and clearly in a lot of pain with her leg. It took hours for the carers who were on duty that night to admit she had fallen the night before - they were trying to cover it up as they had not followed procedure, and nothing had been recorded. We demanded my poor nan be taken into hospital, this happened 2 days later. We never got to the bottom of what happened but my beautiful nan went rapidly downhill from there. My nan gained her angel wings yesterday. I will never forgive them for the way they treated my poor nan.

My mother wasn't very long at Northlands, she sadly died in September, she was 96 years old, her needs were very demanding but Mum always received good care especially her end-of-life care, I can't thank one staff member in particular enough for the dedicated care she gave to Mum towards the end and
the emotional support she gave to me. The communication was excellent from Northlands care staff who always kept me up to date about her condition or any incidents. I shall miss visiting Northlands, I was always received warmly despite their busy schedules.

My mother-in-law moved to Northfield Nursing Home for the last four weeks of her life. The staff on floor two looked after her with love, great care and dignity.
They were always attentive to all her needs.
When we visited, they were always cheerful, very helpful, pleasant and showed great compassion
to all our family.
My mother-in-law, who was confined to bed, with no mental capacity, always looked very clean, comfortable and at peace.
We would like to thank everyone, including reception, housekeeping and catering for everything they did for us.

My mum was admitted for intermediate care with a view to being able to go back home to live independently.
She was however very ill and died within 2 weeks of her being at Westbourne House.
The GP and all the staff myself and my mum came into contact with were exemplary.
Kindness, professionalism,
respect and dignity were shown always not only to my mum but myself and my family. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed all the time during her last 3 days and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Anything they had to make all our lives better we could have.
Exceptional, everyone and we would like to thank you all so very much for everything you did for Mum and all our family we couldn't ask for more.

My friend stayed for around 4 weeks in intermediate care. Both the nursing and care staff were so lovely and caring. They treated my friend well and kept me informed of any problems. The food was really good, even tempting her small appetite. Visitors were welcomed. I would have no worries recommending

The care home provides a safe and professional care for its residents. The food is really good. The staff are caring and friendly. The admin staff are excellent, very organised and helpful. The only thing that could be improved is the amount of activities for the residents. Maybe staff could interact
with residents more by playing games or reminiscing more.

Westbourne House has cared for my mum very well. The staff have been very attentive and have always been there for Mum when she has needed someone. It was comforting to know that a doctor was on site three times a week. The food was fine and we liked the fact that it was cooked fresh on site. The staff
on reception were absolutely lovely and were always cheerful.
