My mother has been a resident in this nursing home since last May. Myself and the rest of our family have found the staff to be very caring and understanding of our mothers needs. She is always happy when we visit. The staff are always understanding, helpful and polite. We could not wish for a better
environment for our relative to be cared for.
Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing HomeThank you so much for your wonderful review! I shall pass your lovely praise onto the staff as I know they will appreciate it and will always endeavour to maintain the best support to both your mother and family.

My mum has been at Northfield for several years and we are happy with her care. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help out. The food is good (although can be a little uninspiring at teatime). My mum's room is warm and clean, although rather small for multiple visitors. This is only a
problem on occasions when mum has to stay in bed - normally we are able to visit her in the lounge or dining room (or the conservatory/garden when the weather is good). My mum enjoys the entertainment that is provided regularly and takes part in some of the craft activities. At this difficult stage in her life, Northfield fully meets her requirements.
Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing HomeThank you so much for your review we are delighted to hear that your mum has such a good experience here at Northfield, I shall pass on your kind words to the staff at Northfield whom I'm sure will endeavour to maintain helpfulness and friendliness.

My Father spent 6 months at Northfield mostly bedbound. I found the staff on the main reception and the desk upstairs to be corteous and helpful when asked. There were times when I had to wait in the corridor whilest they changed soiled clothes and sheets. Most of the time the room was warm and clean,
but there were times when there was food on the floor (which felt sticky). The meals themselves were adequate but they were eaten in a constant aroma of urine and faeces. I found the smell overpowering. On several occasions the batteries were missing / changed from the tv remote and clock. I had to provide new batteries as none could be found. My father was left in bed watching the same tv channel for days. Overall my Father's stay was okay, but it could have been much better with a few minor adjustments.
Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing HomeThank you for your review and the points highlighted. I can confirm that all flooring is currently being replaced within the home and we have recently had all the windows replaced as well. We do try to maintain a sense of dignity for our residents when it comes to changing so we do ask that people allow this to be done in private for the residents sake. I apologise if no batteries were available at the time however this has been noted and batteries have been available on both floors at the nurses station.

Woefully understaffed. Agency staff have no idea what they're doing. Rooms/building very old and tired - but clean. Residents left for several hours without attention - call button unanswered. Medication and meal times not adhered to. Overall - awful experience. Would not recommend.
Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing HomeI'm sorry to hear that you feel we are 'woefully' understaffed but I can assure you we have more than adequate staff to tend general nursing needs. There are times where individuals would like more attention than what would be deemed reasonable but we do endeavour to facilitate extra time to residents. The home is currently under refurbishment with all the windows having being replaced over the last couple of weeks. In regards to the medication times not being adhered to we do have time sensitive medications of which we have to adhere to otherwise people would be put at risk. We work closely with onsite Nurses and external doctors to make sure that Medication is given in a timely manner and more importantly correctly of which as a Nursing Home we are inspected on by external bodies also.

The building needs a refurbishment, wooden windows need re varnishing, the carpets need replacing with water proof flooring. The home always smells of urine, short staffed meaning they don't have time to care for people. This is the second floor.
Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing HomeThank you for your review, I can confirm that the windows and floors are currently under review with a view to being replaced. We as a home endeavour to make sure that it is clean and that all due care and attention is given to the residents at all time, with this in mind we are very mindful of staffing levels and always ensure there are enough staff to accommodate the residents needs. As you can appreciate there are times where it may be busier and the staff less visible as are in the residents rooms however they are still available and are doing their upmost to ensure care is given to everyone.

My Dad was admitted into Northfield after a few month's stay in the hospital. Even though he had a good week...he deteriorated rapidly from ongoing long term health issues and unfortunately passed away.
The staff were amazing, nothing seemed too much trouble and my Dad was looked after during his short
stay.
The staff acted professionally tending to my Dad after he passed and helped me and my daughter tremendously. Thank you and can recommend for sure.

Following fast track referral from hospital to a nursing home my uncle could not have been placed any better than he was than at Northfield's . The care, compassion and friendship he received there as his condition worsened from his terminal illness was first class and is something that he nor I will
ever forget and will forever by thankful. It is probably unfair of me to single out any staff by name because all of those involved in his day to day care whatever their role played a really important part in making his stay at Northfield's as comfortable and friendly as it was
Thank you all
Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing HomeThank you for your kind and honest review, to hear your uncle had the care and support he needed right to the end is something we are proud of and your acknowledgment is testament to this . Northfield is a Dreadful place. A dumping ground is the best way to describe the place. My friend was discharged from the Hospital for assessment here, definitely avoid as I can't recommend at all.
Reply from Mark Richards, Care Home Manager at Northfield Nursing HomeWe are saddened to see this review especially after the interactions you had with the staff of which any and all complaints were handled immediately and processes followed to make sure that these would not arise further. Whilst your friend was admitted to our care from the hospital all due care and attention was given to her and her needs with staff facilitating her requests of which there were many. We acknowledged complaints that were made by yourself and followed the correct procedures involving Adult Social Care of whom dismissed the complaints as evidence provided by the home proved they were unfounded and embellished. Throughout your friends stay we as a company were open and transparent and acted with a duty of candour at all times. We take every due care and attention with every resident and make sure that all processes are followed so to see this review is somewhat disheartening to say the least given the thanks that were given by yourself personally to the staff upon leaving.

My mother was admitted on 24/09/2024 and died on 26/09/2024 (end-of-life care).
On admission, every member of staff introduced themselves and nothing was too much trouble.
Within that short time, my mother was treated with dignity and respect. On her last day we were also treated accordingly and what
we needed to do next was carefully explained.

My mother wasn't very long at Northlands, she sadly died in September, she was 96 years old, her needs were very demanding but Mum always received good care especially her end-of-life care, I can't thank one staff member in particular enough for the dedicated care she gave to Mum towards the end and
the emotional support she gave to me. The communication was excellent from Northlands care staff who always kept me up to date about her condition or any incidents. I shall miss visiting Northlands, I was always received warmly despite their busy schedules.

My mother-in-law moved to Northfield Nursing Home for the last four weeks of her life. The staff on floor two looked after her with love, great care and dignity.
They were always attentive to all her needs.
When we visited, they were always cheerful, very helpful, pleasant and showed great compassion
to all our family.
My mother-in-law, who was confined to bed, with no mental capacity, always looked very clean, comfortable and at peace.
We would like to thank everyone, including reception, housekeeping and catering for everything they did for us.

The care home provides a safe and professional care for its residents. The food is really good. The staff are caring and friendly. The admin staff are excellent, very organised and helpful. The only thing that could be improved is the amount of activities for the residents. Maybe staff could interact
with residents more by playing games or reminiscing more.

My husband spent eight weeks in the home when he was having an assessment. The home and the staff were warm and welcoming. The cleanliness and food were excellent. I cannot express how wonderful the care my mum received at Northfield in her last two months was. She was transferred from hospital and the difference in atmosphere was immediately noticeable. The quality of care exceeded all the family’s expectations and we will be eternally grateful to all the staff
who cared for her so beautifully. She was really comfortable and happy in her surroundings and we could not be more pleased and grateful. Northfield is a bright and happy place, with staff who always went above and beyond to care for our mum. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My mum very sadly passed away in her sleep last month. Everyone at Northfield was caring, supportive and respectful at our extremely difficult time. Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.882)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.882) out of 10 for Northfield Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.130 for Northfield Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (9 Poors x 2) + (15 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 177 Ratings = 4.13
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.752 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Northfield Nursing Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6. 12 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.6 = 0.952
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
