My mum spent 9 days respite care at Pennington Court . Having first made an enquiry a manger came out to assess mums needs and a care plan was put in place ! On arrival we were made very welcome and introduced to staff members . She was given a choice of food at mealtimes and invited to join in with
the arts and crafts through the day . Her room was very clean and tidy . Overall I was very happy to leave her knowing she was safe and secure and going to be well looked after!

Headingley Hall provides a very high standard of accommodation, with some spatious and homely bedrooms and a choice of sitting rooms, both quiet and gregarious. The gardens, front and rear are colourful and well maintained, and are a great asset . My father received some wonderful care whilst living
at Headingley Hall. The staff have been very loving and caring. There is an excellent ethos and good teamwork. A high proportion have been giving loyal service for many years, which is very much appreciated. Highly recommended.

The support from staff regarding the transition of dad from respite to permanent care, has been exceptional. The support from staff has been great. Dad is happy in Cedars, well cared for. Cedars is ideal for him, a lovely courtyard to enjoy in the warmer months. Cedars is a quiet home with a peaceful
vibe, set in lovely gardens. Some of the bedrooms would appreciate a bit of modernisation but this does not distract from the calm atmosphere and pleasant staff.
Reply from Sarah Hutchinson, Registered Manager at The CedarsMany thanks for taking time to submit this review. We value your feedback to enable us to enhance our services. Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My father moved to Headingley Hall at the start of 2023 with my mother, who passed away not long after.

Dad settled in enjoying the friendly approach and atmosphere created by staff and fellow residents. The time that staff took talking to him and providing care beyond just physical needs meant a lot

to him. His room had a view over the front garden and he loved watching the birds there arranging for a bird table to be set up with the help of the team.

As memory and mobility declined, the care expanded. It was unfailingly kind and matched to his state of health. I was kept updated on the care team's assessment of his condition and on the one occasion when he did need to go to hospital they helped me significantly.

Dad died quietly at the end of February 2026. When the end came, that deep care, love and support extended to me, as it had done when Mum died.

Thank you to all the team for the way they tended to his needs, kept his eyes twinkling and his spirits up, right to the end.

My second convalescence stay and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Perfect sized room with en suite facilities for post op rehab. TV, kettle, fridge, call bell to hand and answered in very timely manner. I had meals in my room which were of excellent quality of presentation with dishes removed appropriately.
All carers on duty popped in at times to see if I was ok or needed anything. All very caring and considerate. Manager outstanding.
Reply from Gareth Smith, Care & Client Services Manager at Southlands Retirement ApartmentsThank you so much for your lovely review and for choosing to stay with us again for your convalescence care. It means a great deal to hear that you felt comfortable, well supported, and cared for throughout your recovery.
I'm especially pleased that the room facilities, meals, and responsiveness of our team helped make your stay as smooth and restful as possible. Our carers work incredibly hard to ensure every resident feels safe, comfortable, and valued, so your kind words will mean a lot to them all.
Thank you again for your recommendation and trust in us. We wish you continued recovery and good health, and we would be delighted to welcome you back should you ever need us in the future.
Best wishes,
Gareth

Staff have been unfailingly kind and attentive even when my mum has exhibited some of her more challenging behaviours

I have been consistently blown away by the level of care and service at Southlands. Every single member of staff across every department has been friendly, caring, and attentive-nothing is ever too much trouble. The food is also amazing.
My mum moved here from a new retirement village that looked impressive
on the surface, but where standards quickly fell and the staff often seemed ill-suited for their roles. In contrast, seeing my mum warm, happy, well fed and well-cared for is a true testament to the high recruitment standards Westwood Care obviously maintains.
During the whole process from the initial viewings to the final move, we have been fantastically supported, with great communication from all parties.
My mum's current catchphrase is, "I could not be in a better place." As her family, there is nothing more we could wish to hear.
Reply from Gareth Smith, Care & Client Services Manager at Southlands Retirement ApartmentsThank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and heartfelt review.

We are truly delighted to hear how positive your mum's experience has been at Southlands, and it means a great deal to us to know that she feels warm, happy, well cared for, and at home. Her words, "I could not be in a better place," are incredibly rewarding for our entire team and reflect exactly what we strive to achieve every day.

Your kind comments about our staff, food, recruitment standards, and the support provided throughout the transition process will be shared across the whole team. It is always encouraging for them to know that their care, dedication, and professionalism are so clearly felt by residents and families alike.

Thank you for trusting us with your mum's care and for your confidence in Westward Care. We are honoured to be part of her journey and are grateful for such wonderful feedback

Dad entered Headingley Hall in February 2023, having previously lived in Barnsley. We moved him up to Leeds as both his sons & family live here, myself living 10 minutes walk away. Dad had dementia & severe hearing loss & mobility issues.

In his first 12 months at Headingley Hall he was able to enjoy

the lovely outdoor spaces & he had his own patio area, as he always enjoyed the sunlight. He was popular with residents & staff, who all really loved him.

As his dementia progressed he spent more time in his room, but was still enjoying the activities in the lounge on his better days. The care team did a great job managing his increased needs & worked well with Adult Social Care & his GP to make sure he was getting the best care possible.

Sadly Dad passed away in January 2026 of dementia, in hospital. I can only thank all the team at Headingley Hall for everything they did for my Dad in the twilight of his life. He is hugely missed not just by us, but by the dedicated staff.

My mother decided to buy an apartment here in May 2025, due to delays in selling her house, she didn't move in until late November. The Southlands team made the process very easy & didn't give us any hassle about the delays. They even allowed Mum to move her things in a week before completion so we
could prepare her flat. Living here over the last few weeks, she seems very happy & comfortable & finds everyone very friendly & helpful & enjoys joining the activities & meeting new friends & neighbours. The family feel it has been very good for her.

My mum moved into Headingley Hall December 2022, just as the dementia unit now called Shire Oak was opening. We chose HH due to the very friendly warm atmosphere that made us feel our mum would be very happy there. She was. She moved out in November 2025 due to financial reasons only
The staff were
all very caring and took time to get to know my mum, her likes and dislikes, what she liked to do. Nothing ever seemed too much for the staff to do.
I found the manager and deputy manager very approachable and would listen to any ideas I had as well as answer any concerns I had about my mum. The reception staff were welcoming.
I have always spoken very highly about staff and everything at Headingley Hall, always recommending that it is a home that should be looked at when considering a care home.

My husband spent 5 days in respite just before Xmas. It was a very difficult decision for myself to let him go but during a visit I was reassured by how friendly, welcoming and understanding the staff were. First impressions were very good. Headingley Hall is spotlessly clean, with a warm, inviting
atmosphere. The staff couldn't have been any nicer and after visiting several care homes, this was by far the nicest. If my husband needs respite in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to let him stay there again.
