Reviews

8.2 Headingley Hall Care Home has a Review Score of 8.2 (8.189)

The Review Score of 8.2 (maximum of 10) for Headingley Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Headingley Hall Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.764 for Headingley Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (151 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 191 Ratings = 4.764

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.425 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Headingley Hall Care Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25

    2. Target of 11.4 positive Reviews (57 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 11.4 Target = 0.175

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother has lived at Headingley Hall for 8 years. Everyone works tirelessly to make Headingley Hall my mother's home. Buildings are historic with sympathetic additions: gardens are great and shops adjacent. Headingley Hall looks and feels like a small hotel, you are welcomed by a very friendly lady in a plush reception area, adjacent to a residents lounge and dining room, with a bar. I visit whenever I wish, welcomed with coffee near the kitchen. The kitchen receives daily deliveries of fresh fruit, vegetables and meat: meals are varied and cooked from scratch. The facilities are excellent, the staff are even better.

Staff and management turnover is low: I always meet familiar faces, that is even more important for residents. My mother is frail at 92, and staff go out of their way to talk with her and encourage her. I encourage anyone requiring care, for themselves or relatives, to visit Headingley Hall. In my experience, it speaks for itself: it is a real home to residents and relatives, in every way.

Sharon, General Manager at Headingley Hall Care Home responded to this review on 18 Nov 2017:

Thank you for your review. I will pass this on to the Headingley Hall team.

Dad was in Headingley Hall for a year and we couldn't have asked for him to be anywhere better. The staff cared for Dad like he was their own. He always said the staff were 'top rate'. We only ever saw staff being kind and respectful to residents and the senior staff were always happy to discuss anything we wanted to talk about. In particular, they were excellent at keeping us informed, especially towards the end of Dad's life when they had to call the GP out on a number of occasions. They rang us to tell us what was happening and it was a huge weight off our minds to know that he was being properly looked after. He complained about the food but I think that was as much him as the food. There were lots of different activities on offer (not that he wanted to take part!). Not only did they know Dad and his preferences, and catered for them, they knew us too. The staff weren't just doing a job - they genuinely cared. They will miss him - and we will miss them.

Sharon Earnshaw, General Manager at Headingley Hall Care Home responded to this review on 27 Jan 2017:

Dear Liz, Thank you for your positive and kind comments. We felt privileged to look after your father and are proud to know he was so comfortable at Headingley Hall.

My mother was treated with dignity and patience. She was addressed by the name she wanted to be known as and I never heard any other name used.
Staff checked on my mother at least 8 times in a day to bring medications, meals and water, newspaper, to ascertain activity involvement and housekeeping.
Medications - It was not ensured that my mother took her medications (which she always did) but in other situations, this may be a problem.
Cleanliness of environment - The room was kept to a clean standard. The dining room was clean, the tables laid with clean table cloths. Table flowers would have been nice to see as a table talking point
Food - Not very inspiring. This is the only area I would like to see improved with better presentation and a more varied menu.
Staff attitude - very comforting to know all staff were caring and genuinely interested. It was not evident if there were staff issues as all staff were professional and smiling.

Elaine Yechezkel, Administrator at Headingley Hall Care Home responded to this review on 07 Nov 2016:

Thank you for your kind comments made. I would like to respond to some of the areas you have spoken about. Further to a recent Resident's Forum, your mother did comment about table flowers and we have noted this and are looking at purchasing table decorations/flowers.

We apologise that you did not find the food inspiring. I would like to reassure you by confirming we have a new menu starting this week. In response to the varied menu we always offer at lunch a choice of 3 main courses and a choice of 2 main courses at tea time, in addition, we have an optional menu available with a further three choices, one of which is always vegetarian. The Chef would always offer something else should a resident not like anything on the menu. If a resident has a specific dish they wish to see on the menu we always take this into consideration and add to our choices. All main courses have been chosen by residents during our quarterly forum meetings.
We take on board your comments about medication and can confirm that on Friday 4th November 2016 the Manager carried out a competency and observed staff administering medication. The staff member had made a note to return to the resident to check that the medication had been taken, which the Manager observed had been carried out.

Six months into my mother's residency and we are both very satisfied with every aspect of the home. The building has character and is well maintained including a lovely garden and plenty of communal/visiting spaces. The staff are unfailingly friendly and compassionate with readily accessible managers who respond efficiently to any requests or concerns. Mum is settled very well and medical attention when required has always been quick with excellent links to nearby medical centre. The standard of catering is very high with interesting dishes and ingredients on offer as well as traditional fayre. The home is also well located for nearby shops/cafes.

Have found everyone from the cleaners to the boss so very friendly and helpful. Cannot praise them too highly.
I am treated as an individual, not just a number. One's like and dislikes are remembered.
Atmosphere more like a hotel with extras rather than a 'hospital'.

My mother has had respite care 2-3 times a year for the last four years so we can go on holiday. We are always happy to leave her there as the things that matter to her are willingly provided. She is a devoted catholic and the staff help her attend mass further up the road.

They help her shower and provide a commode, as she is used to at home. The place is clean, comfortable and friendly. Mum is 90 and a bit forgetful, but she is treated with respect and welcomed by the residents she has grown to know. It means I can have the odd break from caring duties without worrying.

My father has stayed twice a year for the past four years. Headingley Hall is like a five star hotel, it's beautifully presented, clean and comfortable. The service is second to none, a lovely welcome pack is given to my dad on arrival. The staff are warm and welcoming which makes dad feel special. The rooms are spacious with coordinated furniture and furnishings with a spacious en suite. The menu is ideal for the service users and the food is of a high standard. Dad always enjoys his stay.

My aunt was made really happy at the care home and the staff treated her with great kindness, dignity and respect. She lived there for the final two years of her life and she thoroughly enjoyed the environment and experience. Following a stroke the staff responded by taking her back into palliative care and they gave her the best possible end to her 96 years.

The management and all staff clearly care for and know how to look after my Aunt. All her caring needs are met her room is clean and generally well maintained- when she had skin problems it should have been arranged for the cleaner to hoover the carpet more often. All her clothes and linen are washed and ironed very well - turn around time is very good. Any mislaid clothes are found! Her medical care is generally very good- they are attentive and quick to react to her needs. All hospital appointments and visits are well managed - correct taxis ordered and a carer arranged. Very, very rarely the home has a smell which is quickly sorted. My Aunt is very happy at Headingley Hall.

During the ten years in which my aunty lived at Headingley Hall, she was treated with respect, compassion and dignity. What I particularly liked was the friendliness of the staff, their welcoming outlook and the fact that my aunty had fun with them. Her independence was nurtured and cherished her idiosyncrasy were accepted and when we lost my aunty her passing was really mourned by the staff who did care for her.

My disabled brother with learning difficulties has lived here for 2 years. He is 69 years old. Also my sister has lived here for 9 months. She is 76 years old. They are in rooms next door to each other. I can honestly say the staff are lovely. The home is "homely" it is well laid out with different kinds of rooms and different sizes. The meals are lovely- plenty of choice always something happening for residents who want to take part. The home "smells" nice as you go in. I feel at home when I go and have asked to go on the waiting list for when it is my turn to be cared for. I am 70, I have seen lots of homes but this is the best.

Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer about 6 weeks ago. He refused to eat initially and then wouldn't drink. The staff have been supportive to Dad and us as a family. The level of care to dad was excellent. He was shown respect, his personal care was always attended to and he was made as comfortable as he could be. He was confined to bed towards the end and was turned every 1 and a half hours to prevent pressure sores. Dad was very happy living here and I'm so grateful he has the care that enabled him to stay here till he passed away.
