My Dad has been in Burnlea since November 2023 and is extremely well looked after. I never have to worry about his health. Hospital appointments, medication or hearing aid servicing are all magically arranged! He always looks extremely well turned out. The staff are very kind and ask him what he would like to wear when they get him ready in the mornings. Last year I arranged for Dad to move into a home near to where I lived. It was a very emotional time as the staff were all so lovely and sorry to see him go. On the morning he left staff who had the day off even came in to say goodbye and wave him off. The home he moved into was not a patch on Burnlea and after only 4 days we agreed that he should go back. Fortunately Eileen the manager at Burnlea was extremely accommodating and he was welcomed back. He even had a welcome back card given to him when he arrived

My dad has been in Burnlea for over a year now and has settled in very well. He is happy and well looked after by everyone concerned. He takes part in most activities and enjoys going outside on Trishaw outings and to the lovely gardens. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming and attentive to his needs. I would not hesitate to recommend Burnlea to anyone as it is always a pleasure to visit!

Reply from Eileen Welch, Home Manager at Burnlea

The great outdoors; whether on the Trishaw, or watching/raising the flag pole is a joy for your Dad - finishing off with some afternoon tea/ice cream, always a treat! Thank you for your lovely comments.

My mother has been at Burnlea now for close on 2 years. She is approaching her 102nd birthday and until going in to Burnlea was living independently at home - we had been trying for a number of years to get her to move in to a home or some sheltered accommodation but she wouldn't agree but eventually she had a fall and then agreed with the move - the family were a bit concerned as to how she would take to the change but we need not have worried. From our initial contact with Burnlea right through to this day we have had no concerns whatsover with any aspect of the care she is receiving - she seems to enjoy the food (although she can never remember what she had), gets involved with the various activities, and seems to have a good rappor with the staff. On the odd occasion we have wanted to discuss any aspect of mam's care we have always found the staff very approachable whether it be the manager, nurses or care assistants - thank you all for the care you are giving mother.

It is a pleasure having your mum residing at Burnlea House. She keeps us all right especially in the garden with her wealth of knowledge and always looks amazingly windswept when she returns from the shorefront and will be looking forward to the sun on her face come the Summer! Thank you for your lovely comments.

Knowing that Mum had reached the stage where she required a care home, we faced the difficult decision of where would be best for her. Now, after almost a year at Burnlea, we have nothing but high praise for Burnlea and its staff - at all levels - who provide a warm, welcoming, and caring environment not only for Mum but for family, friends and neighbours who pop in to visit. Over this past year Mum's health and wellbeing has greatly improved and she has enjoyed a much better quality of life. The leadership is excellent, there is a very positive and dynamic team spirit, and the environment is stimulating and supportive. The manager and staff are highly responsive to Mum's needs and our suggestions. Thanks so much to all at Burnlea.

We continue to be thankful to the care our Mum receives within the Burnlea family. Our family visit her regularly and we phone and do video calls, which she looks forward to and we have a good chat and lots of laughter. I'm happy to see Mum is healthier, eating nourishing food and more importantly is safer than being at home. She does miss home, but understands she has great care and all her needs are met.

Thank you to all the staff again for all you do for Mum and the friendly smiles, offer of hot drinks and food for us who visit. Very best wishes to you all xxx

I am so very grateful for the care, support, and love that Abbotsford provided my mother over a two-year period. We were recommended this home by another resident's family who spoke highly of the brilliant staff - and I can 100% agree with that. There is a truly genuine and caring ethos that shines throughout all the staff at Abbotsford.

They were incredibly supportive to us as a family when my mother passed away, and we will always be thankful for their kindness and compassion. Thank you, Abbotsford, for everything you did for Mum.

Our mum has been a resident in Abbotsford since February 2023. During that time she has received first class care and attention for all staff. They always take time to talk to her and ask about her life prior to entering Abbotsford. Her care is first class and all members of staff are attentive and professional. We, as a family are delighted with how she is looked after and have peace of mind knowing how well she is care for. We have come to know the staff very well and they have made us feel a part of the Abbotsford family.

I cannot praise Burnlea highly enough. It is an absolute pleasure visiting my father, who is being so well cared for. The manager is so proactive and forward-thinking, always looking for ways to provide even better care. The nursing and care staff are kind and compassionate, and really know my dad as an individual. Today he was presented with a home-made birthday cake in his favourite colour. The entertainment provided is great fun and varied; communication is excellent, with regular e-mails, events and the fantastic social media page. The staff at Burnlea treat my father, who has dementia, with such kindness, compassion and respect, and I have absolute trust in them to provide him with the best care possible in cheerful, stimulating and spotless surroundings. I am truly grateful that my dad can call Burnlea home.

My wife was a resident in the nursing home from May 8th 2024 until her death on June 28th 2025. All of the staff - management, caring and housekeeping were exemplary, exhibiting a real sense of caring, laced with laughs and humour. The atmosphere in the nursing home is just that - honest. The support of the staff as my wife neared the end of life was very much appreciated by myself and my son and daughters. Cannot speak too highly of the home - it is superb.

Poor experience, very disappointed with Care Home Manager. It was clear from onset that any individual with moderate dementia will not be supported to transition from home and be offered a settling in period. If your relative has cognitive decline then please do not consider this care home.

Fortunately my father has now settled into another care home which offers the skill set and competence which this care home lacks.

Reply from J Chohan, Director at Burnlea

Thank you for your feedback. We'd like to share some important context. Your father was welcomed into our home as agreed on a trial basis, and from the outset, we were open about our concerns in meeting his complex needs due to his cognitive decline. Despite this, you were keen for him to have the...

My Mum was a resident at Abbotsford for the last 18 months of her life, after a severe stroke/dementia left Mum requiring 24 hour care. I cannot praise ALL of the staff at Abbotsford enough, no matter what their role or position, every single member of staff was friendly, kind and genuinely caring. The interaction between the staff and residents is amazing. There is good communication from staff regarding the welfare of your loved one and you are always kept informed and made feel included. There are daily activities/classes to keep the residents entertained and socialising. The staff really do go the extra mile in every aspect. Mum was happy and content at Abbotsford and I will be forever grateful for the care Mum received.

The care my parents receive at Abbotsford Nursing Home is so wonderful. The staff treat them with such kindness and respect. They genuinely treat them like they are members of their own family. The staff are warm, gentle and amazing. Always there with a joke and a cuppa and a biscuit. Every member of staff you come into contact with gives you their time.
There are lots of activities on offer and nothing is too much trouble. They will accommodate any requests with a gentle touch. We are so well informed of every aspect of their care.

As a family, we cannot express the happiness and gratitude we feel that our parents are so well cared for.

Mum became a resident in Abbotsford in June 2023 after a shocking experience in another care home.
Over the next 3 or 4 months they managed to get Mum back to a similar condition to when she entered the first care home.
There are many activities run by staff and all the residents encouraged to participate. Her condition meant that she thought that she was back at work as a cleaner. The staff would play along and gave her a pinny and her old carpet sweeper. She would boss the staff about and tell them how the cleaning should be done. We celebrated her 91st Birthday party in the lovely big room that looks across to Arran with most of the staff singing Happy Birthday to her.

The professionalism and care of all the staff allowed us to spend quality time with her for the last year of her life. They always made us so welcome, were friendly and nothing was too much effort. Dinner with residents for visitors was available at no extra cost and there was always plentiful tea/coffee & biscuits.

This is my second review as Dad has been living here for nearly a year. Everything that was right from the beginning continues to be excellent. I am constantly delighted by the wide range of activities for residents and that he has the choice of taking part or not depending on how he feels. He has so much contact with staff, whether he is resting in his room alone, or having his meal in the dining room, or attending events in the lounge. It's lovely to see him so well groomed and cared for in a homely and clean setting. He's been on the ferry to Arran for the day which is great, as he's always been keen on the boats and we didn't imagine he'd ever be on it again. We picked the home partly because of the lovely views of the harbour. He has put on weight and his colour is so much better. A couple of times he's been poorly and had very quick attention from the local GP. I know a bit about care homes professionally and I could not ask for more. I am so impressed and also grateful.

Dad came to Burnlea straight from hospital. We were overjoyed when we heard a room was free for him as, being local, we knew he was about to receive the very best of care.
The first big surprise was when we visited the day after he had been admitted, after languishing in hospital for over 3 months, and found him in the sitting room looking as if he'd never been in hospital at all. He was fully clothed, washed, shaved, looking a 'million dollars'. What a relief! On looking around all the residents looked really well turned out, there was none of the 'old people stench' I'd experienced when Mum had been in care, the whole place was spotlessly clean and fresh but most of all the staff were all bright eyed and genuinely friendly. It honestly feels like Dad is being looked after by members his own family.
After so many years of looking after my Dad's concerns it's a huge relief not to be worried about his care.

This is an exceptionally well-managed home!

My mum has been a resident at Burnlea since autumn 2023 - I have been really impressed with the standard of care she has received. Mum's care, both in terms of general care and nursing care, has been of a high standard. Prior to entering Burnlea, there was not a day that went by without Mum telling me about her pain - now she never reports being sore. She has gained much needed weight. She has been very well looked after by a friendly and happy team.
