Mum has been in Dove Court for a few years now, first arriving during Covid. From the start, and in difficult circumstances, the care home staff have shown great care and compassion to both Mum and us, her family. The staff engage well with her despite her dementia and associated communication difficulties.
Mum is well fed, and her health is well-cared for. Clear effort is made to include her in the communal activities arranged for the residents. Overall, Dove Court provides a very positive experience for us all.

Very caring staff, a very skilled and caring manager. My Mother has been in now for almost 2 years, and the day she went in, Dove Court immediately accommodated her when it was quite an emergency at the time. She is well looked after and all of the staff I have met are a credit to the home and the manager
who also works tirelessly.

Management and staff work hard to ensure my mum's changing needs are met; as they know her well; keeping records that inform decisions; responding respectfully with kindness and care. The home feels friendly and homely. Staff are welcoming and approachable. The furnishings, layout, decor, pictures and
ornaments help the homely comfortable feel. The two cats make it feel even more like a comfortable true home. They help residents relax, as does the patio garden which has become a lovely place to sit.

Reply from Millie Findlay, Deputy Manager at Alexander Court

Thank you for leaving a kind review. It's lovely to read how you feel about the home. We are looking forward to the warmer weather to make full use of the patio area.

Alexander Court home is a good place for my mum and her needs. The staff are very caring and teat residents with respect and kindness. Family of residents are kept informed of meetings and organised activities through meetings and other notifications. Numerous activities are organised throughout the
year to raise funds for things to enhance resident's lives and improve their living environment for example a pleasant outdoor space to enjoy during the summer months. I am always welcomed with a smile when I visit and given any updates on my mum's care. Staffing numbers can sometimes limit extra care needed by some residents, especially when very busy with demands.

Reply from Millie Findlay, Deputy Manager at Alexander Court

Thank you for leaving a kind review. It is positive to hear that meetings and other notifications keep relatives informed of events going on in the home.

My father came into Cavell House aged 93, for end of life care, having been given less than a week to live. Here we are 3.5 years later and my Father is just about to celebrate his 97th birthday. Cavell House literally saved his life. They have supported him not only physically but mentally too. They
have accommodated him every step of the way. He is a fiercely independent man and they have given him the means to be as autonomous as possible. As a family we know he is in the right place. He is safe, comfortable and looked after to a very high standard.

I wouldn't wish a homeless person coming in here. This isn't a care home but a dumping ground for the elderly people who have dementia. My poor mum was shut in a shed-like room. We were told she couldn't go into the lounge or dining room or take part in activities, that's if they had any. Her room was
clean but that's it. Mum's Christmas gift went missing including most of Mum's clothes. It's certainly not a loving homely place at all. Prison is better than this place so please be aware of you choosing this place to care for your loved one.

The whole experience my nan and us as a family received here was awful. My poor nan was left all day every day in her room, the majority of staff were far from professional and the care in general was terrible. The notes weren't always the truth as they used to write that she had declined food even
though I sat with her and assisted her with many of her meals which she ate all of, and the staff could never give us proper updates and were very cold hearted and didn't seem to actually want to be there. We were told she wouldn't be able to take part in activities or sit in the lounge diner with other residents which was a red flag for me from the start. Also they lost half a wardrobe of my nan's clothes which were labelled, as well as loosing some sentimental items of hers which yet again they didn't care. I was a HCA in a nursing home and my god, I've never seen such a cold hearted run down place in my years. Some days I would visit my nan and felt I was having to do their job for them.

We felt very welcome into the home to visit our aunt in her last few months. All the staff treated her with love and kindness. She always looked clean and well cared for. The room was bright and airy with a nice view of garden. Although our aunt had dementia and was easily distressed, we found her much
more settled here than at her previous care home. We commend the nursing staff for their compassion and professionalism.

My mother was on the willow ward at Oake Meadows, Trull in Taunton. The staff were very kind compassionate and caring to my mum and our family. They allowed dogs in to visit which all residents loved. We are so very grateful for everything. Mum was 94 and actually died of frailty, we could not have
asked for better interactions from all staff, nurses, helpers, and cleaners, everyone was wonderful and respectful. They treated the whole family with dignity, genuine care, and support.

Some staff more compassionate/caring than others. Told by nurse within minutes of mum's admission that I had to get an undertaker as the body needs be removed within 3 hours of death. Brutal. One nurse has zero compassion/people skills. Lovely staff helped personalise mum's room which helped massively.
Staff shortages lead to unanswered call bells and mum being left in soiled pants some mornings. I requested medicine for painful mouth ulcers, nothing was actioned so I was told to buy over counter myself. Then nurse refused to administer it! Staff smoke on premises (outside). I had to push hard for mum to receive a direct drive for final days as the regular injections were causing her to scream in pain. I received a call at midnight to say mum had died and the nurse said "I told you to wait a few more hours" (I'd been at her side until a few hours earlier and every day for 4 months). Uncaring comment. Mum's watch was removed from her body and "disposed of" before going to undertaker.
