Over the last couple of months I have found Oak Lodge to be a happy and excellent place for care, The staff go above and beyond to give the residents the best possible care. Very clean and would not want my husband to be cared for anywhere else.

My mum has been in care at Oak Lodge for over three years now. The staff have been like another family to her, I can't praise them highly enough. Both during the time she spent at the home and the end-of-life care my mum received from them was second to none. Thank you.

All the staff seem to be as helpful as possible but some of the hands-on staff need to understand the needs of the individual residents and treat them appropriately. Just slow down a bit give them time to take on board what is wanted of them and speak in a civil manner, some are alone in their own little
world, equipment should work as it's meant to, especially T.V., the only form of entertainment for some residents, we have noticed the meals provided are not like the menu shown on the entrance window.

I visit a lady who is a 'friend' of the charity that I work for. I first met her when she lived at home and she was neglecting to care for herself. She has been in two other nursing homes, where her care was appalling. She is now in residential care at Oak Lodge and has been given the best care ever.
She is happy and very well cared for.

My uncle had developing frailty and repeated infections and was declining in health on his own at home. After one hospital visit he was discharged to an awful home, which I won't name! Then back into hospital he went again. Luckily this time he was discharged to Oak Lodge and he has remained there since.
He is now in stable health and is the best he has been for years.
This is testament to the hard working staff who actually care for their residents and treat them like family. Meals are freshly cooked with a choice. There are regular activities. Friends and family are welcomed. I would not hesitate to recommend Oak Lodge to anyone.

My aunt became a resident rather suddenly in February but the management and staff went over and above to help her settle.
It is a very difficult decision to make to put a loved one into care and the care and compassion they showed was amazing.
They have since continued to deliver a high level of
care and it is a long time since my aunt has looked this well. They have addressed every aspect of her care.
Not only do the staff take care of my Aunt they also make sure family members are kept updated and always happy to help with any questions we may have.

My mum came to Oak Lodge at the beginning of Covid, for respite after breaking her wrist (aged 90). I live abroad and was unable to travel for almost 2 years and during that time Mum became comfortable having people look after her. Due to increasing dementia, Mum has become a different person, very
difficult to deal with. However, the staff always try to laugh with my mum as that's the person she was. The staff have always kept me informed of mum's condition, and whenever I visit, they are very accommodating. The home is not purpose-built for elderly residential care, but the staff do a great job of making it feel homely.
Reply from Karen Cousins, Acting Manager at Oak Lodge

Thank you for your lovely feedback staff always look at a holistic approach to each individual's care and support so it is nice to hear you can see this. Your Mum's care is important to us and l am happy the staff are treating your mum with the dignity and respect she deserves. Although our home is not purpose built we are making changes day by day and pride ourselves in being able to provide the person-centred approach which comes with working in a small home. Works are planned all throughout the year to make improvements so that our residents can feel comfortable, safe and at home.

My sister-in-law has been at Oak Lodge for nearly 15 years. She suffers from dementia, so no longer knows us. However, the care, kindness and attention she receives at the home is astounding. She has to have a special diet, but nothing is a problem for them to see that she gets what she needs. I am
very happy for her to continue and have care at Oak Lodge.

If you are thinking of sending your relative here think very very carefully!! Go visit first and make up your own mind. We were offered a place here by mums social worker. The manager came to see mum on Friday and said a room was available on Monday. All seemed well. Monday morning phone call. Room
ready so we took mum there after lunch. On arrival did look a bit downtrodden but appearances can be deceptive. It wasn't! The front door wouldn't stay open carpets were frayed, corridors were uneven decor was tired. Mum's room was still full of the previous, we understand the deceased man's clothes and hadn't been cleaned, the bed not changed and the bathroom was dirty. The handyman and the chef in full whites came to change the bed. Hope the chef changed before going back into the kitchen?! The staff was helpful but nothing had been done properly. This place needs a lot of money spent on it and management who actually do their job. We didn't leave mum there. There have got to be better places than this.

Thank you for your review on carehome.co.uk. Whilst I appreciate your comments and areas of improvement I believe your feedback to be very harsh and not entirely accurate.
I completed an in-depth assessment at your mum’s home as an emergency due to concerns with your mum’s health and family not being able to maintain the level of care they were giving due to their own circumstances. I spent the whole weekend completing a plan of care in my own time tailored to your mum’s needs and wishes, as you made a comment that previously you were not happy with the service she was currently receiving, and I very much wanted to make sure your mum's and family's experience was a positive one.
I did ring you to discuss admission for Monday afternoon and on your mum’s arrival I met you all at the door, also other staff members did too as we wanted it to be a positive experience and a warm welcome. On entering the room you mentioned that the mattress on the nursing bed (air flow) was not required, this was immediately removed by the maintenance operative and the cook as he had finished his shift. He then offered an immediate replacement. I can confirm there were some clothing items still in the wardrobe which had been overlooked but at no point had the gentleman been in the room, therefore the room was clean and tidy and had been cleaned by the domestic team. I can apologise for the inconvenience of the clothing still being in the wardrobe and there have been lessons learnt from this however the concern was dealt with immediately and at one point you had five staff supporting this to minimise the distress it caused.
Our home is a small home which is being constantly updated and refurbished. Our home is clean, tidy and well maintained with some areas we accept need updating and are in our plans to complete. There are no issues with the building which cause any form of negative effect on our person-centred care.
Prior to admission staff had completed the care plan, contacted another GP surgery that was nearer to the home, spoke with the SALT team and also the hospital consultant to ensure your mum’s needs were met.
As you were in the home for 10-15 minutes I feel I would have been able to put your concerns right had I been given the chance and more time to work collaboratively with you all to ensure the service provided was to a high standard.
I do wish you and your family well and hope you find a home you are happy with to ensure your mum’s needs and wishes are met. We welcome any constructive feedback as this is a way to continually review our service so long as it is proportionate.

My mum came here when my dad went into the hospital, now dad is in here, so both are together. They are both so well looked after; the staff are friendly and very caring. Everyone is so helpful if we have a query, and the most important thing is, Mum and Dad are safe and cared for. We have been so lucky
that both parents could come here and be together still as they are in their 90s now and married for 67-years, and it would have been awful to separate them now.

I cannot thank Oak Lodge enough for what they have done for my sister and myself. They are really great at informing you with information about my sister. They also understood how upset I was putting my sister in a home. I couldn't wish for a better home; thanks, Oak Lodge. All the staff are amazing,

Care for my mother with her complex care needs is fantastic. The management knows my mum very, very well, which has been passed down to their team. Some of the results are based on not visited inside the home for a year due to Covid and are based on window visits/telephone calls. There is never a problem
that is not discussed with me, and we are very happy with the care.
