From the moment my mother arrived in the care home the staff and management have gone above and beyond their duties looking after her. They really made her welcome and got to know her and treated her as an individual and with respect and most importantly kindness and care. This kindness was extended
to her family and nothing was too much trouble. They have kept us informed regarding her care throughout her time here and we always felt that she was safe. The outside facade of the care home betrays how truly lovely Oak Lodge is. Thank you x

Stockingate Residential Home

from A F (Son of Resident) published on 18 November 2025

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
The staff and management are friendly and treat mum well, with respect and dignity. I think the staff are let down by a lack of quality food. They can only feed residents so much on a limited budget or whats ordered. Bedrooms, lounge, dining room are very basic, but I appreciate the residents illness
don't allow for the best quality furnishes. I appreciate the chairs etc have to be practical. The garden needs tidying up, often broken chairs, toilets etc are left outside too long. There is limited space to sit with mum, often confined to the dining room which is not satisfactory, as we are unable to take her out anymore. No major concerns but things could be improved for both residents and staff.
Reply from Steve Smith, Operations Manager at Stockingate Residential HomeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your mother's care. We are pleased to hear that you feel our staff and management treat your mother with dignity and respect, and that you have observed positive relationships within the home.

We would like to clarify a few points regarding meals and nutrition. Residents are offered daily choice from our menu, and there is no set "food budget" restricting what they receive. We work closely with residents to ensure their preferences are respected, and we monitor nutrition and weight regularly in line with CQC standards. Currently there are no concerns about weight loss in the home.
We acknowledge your comments about the environment. While furnishings must be practical to meet residents' needs, we continue to review communal areas and gardens to ensure they are safe, tidy, and welcoming.
Kind Regards Carly Tighe Home Manager

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I have found this home to be of an exceptionally high standard. From first assessing my friend's needs to her coming to live here, the kindness, the care and compassion shown has been second to none. The staff all seem very dedicated to making her life as comfortable and happy as possible. Each time
I visit, I witness how residents and staff interact and see genuine care and warmth. My friend is well looked after and safe; this, in turn, helps us to accept that she can no longer be at home with us. Having visited many care facilities, I can say this is by far the best I've ever been in/to.
Reply from Tina Rowley, Matron/Manager at Victoria HouseThank you so much for this review, this is so much appreciated and will be passed to the whole team who continue to strive for the delivery of best care.

My sister was a resident at Stockingate care home , she was happy there for 4 years , then things changed and I believe her care went downhill, I would not recommend this care home, I wish that I had removed my sister before she died in hospital.
Reply from Steve Smith, Operations Manager at Stockingate Residential HomeWe are truly saddened to read your comments and would like to extend our condolences on the passing of your sister. She was a valued member of our Stockingate community for many years, and our team remember her with great fondness. We take all concerns raised by relatives extremely seriously. In this case, your representations were fully reviewed internally and externally, including by the Care Quality Commission and senior company leadership. No evidence was found to support the claims of a decline in care. We remain confident that your sister continued to receive compassionate, professional and person-centred support from our dedicated team throughout her time with us. We recognise that the period surrounding a loved one's declining health and passing can be very distressing, and perceptions and emotions can understandably be heightened. We remain fully committed to transparent communication, and we would be happy to meet with you again should you wish to discuss

The experience was entirely positive. They were professional but at the same time very friendly. They had security of the residents as a priority; asking name and relationship to the resident, making sure I signed in. My sister has only positive things to say about this nursing home. She is happy loves
the staff and is impressed by the food.

My husband is extremely happy. He has settled well in a safe environment where he feels he is genuinely part of a family. He is very fortunate that the home has allowed him to use part of the conservatory to pursue his personal rehabilitation activities. This area has been set up solely for him which
he and I appreciate. However there is a lack of activities provided by the home to stimulate residents.

Through the 2 years my dad was here I have absolutely no complaints at all. The staff cared for my dad like his own family and despite his complex needs they spent time to help him be the best version of himself and and made him smile again. The dietary, nursing and care needs were all met and dad was
clean and well groomed at all times. His room was lovely and was a home from home.

My mum received end of life care here for one week. My family visited daily and was always greeted with smiles and offers of tea. The staff were always friendly, helpful and caring. Mum was treated with dignity and compassion. Her room was clean, airy and so much quieter than hospital. She has a big
bed with cosy throws and seemed peaceful. When she passed away we felt we had been lucky to have found such a wonderful place to end her days.

My wife has lived in the Home for nearly three years. Her care is provided in a very kind, loving, patient and compassionate way. The Home communicates regularly with me if there are any issues and all staff working these are very friendly making me hot drinks when I visit and chatting to me about any
aspects of her care. The environment is very caring with good continuity of staff and high standards maintained by the Manager. I am reassured by the clinical knowledge of the registered nursing staff and my wife benefits from being part of the local Hospital 'virtual ward' concept having access to Consultants. I have recently moved my sister in law into the home and she is now benefitting from the loving care provided. My heartfelt thanks to all the staff for everything you do for my relatives.
