I vividly remember when in August 2018 my dear wife was diagnosed by her doctor with "Dementia in Alzheimer's disease!" a terrible blow! Two years later as the illness progressed and we could not cope at home, regrettably she had to go to a care home and COVID struck making things much much worse. It was a stroke of luck later on to find Five Oaks and move her. She is looked after with great care by the staff, some of whom have been there for several years in a family-like atmosphere, a lovely garden, constant attention, and care for the good food freshly cooked in the kitchen. All of this is a great comfort to me. The recent arrival of the manager a lively constantly smiling, always available efficient young lady manager is contributing greatly to the management of the home. I sincerely hope though that there will be not too many changes to alter the family like atmosphere that is so precious.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review of Five Oaks. As a close relative of a person who lives in care, as well as working in care, I am very aware of the importance of having faith in the people looking after your loved one. I am glad to hear that your wife and you are being well cared for. We are very proud of our team, especially our 'young lady manager'!

From my first visit to Five Oaks, it was clear that the home provided a bright, colourful and welcoming environment. Although my father-in-law's stay was comparatively brief, before long-term health issues took him from us, he was well supported, both medically and socially, with engaging activities and staff interaction. It is my opinion that he experienced more "life" in his final few weeks at Five Oaks than he had seen in the three or four years prior to his residency. For this, the family can be grateful.

My thanks to the management and staff for the outstanding dedication and care provided as the bridge between hospital and home.
Having been discharged from hospital 2 night post total knee replacement surgery, I was welcomed in the most warm and friendly fashion by every member of staff from the first moment of my stay. My room on the "Quiet Floor" was comfortable and well-furnished which enabled me to live a very independent life with nourishing meals!
The compassion and kindness of the carers made a real difference in my recovery and I appreciated their commitment to providing me with everything I needed during my short stay which made a stressful/painful time more bearable.

Thank you for going above and beyond to provide comfort and support, I feel very fortunate that Five Oaks was available.

Reply from Rahima Mulindwa, Registered Manager at Five Oaks

My very good family friend spent 4 years as a resident and was cared for extremely well by the very compassionate staff, but the main point I would like to tell others about was the terminal care that was given to her during her last couple of weeks.
Although there was nothing anybody could do, she was made comfortable, kept clean and loved by all the staff, which is all we could possibly ask for.

Well done Five Oaks and thank you for looking after my special friend.

Reply from Rahima Mulindwa, Registered Manager at Five Oaks

Mum's stay at 5 Oaks lasted over two years. During that time, she was treated with genuine love and respect by the staff. The home provided a safe, yet social environment that brought Mum so much happiness and joy. Even during occasional challenges with her behaviour, the staff remained professional and compassionate.

My brother spent his last 5 years at Five Oaks and could not have had better care. The surroundings are clean, cheerful and comfortable, and the food is varied, well-presented and tasty. The care was professional and given with respect enabling each resident to be an individual.
The staff are all exceptional, including the manager, carers, kitchen staff, cleaners and laundry staff. There are too many people who deserve an individual mention but thank you to everyone for making Five Oaks a homely place and allowing my brother to be himself for as long as possible.
I was always kept up to date with any changes in his circumstances and care and felt part of his team.

Also thanks for the support given to me and the lovely welcome whenever I visited.

My mother stayed in Five Oaks Care Home for the last year of her life and I can honestly say, the team there could not have done any more for her. Her last year was challenging health wise and with dementia setting in but they encouraged her to take an active role in activities and she sung her heart out to the end. She loved the regular singers who came to the home and despite struggling with memory, she could recall every word of her favourite old time numbers. The staff at Five Oaks are amazing, they are not just carers, they are warm, kind and amazing people who go above and beyond. The care and love my mum received was beyond anything I could have ever wanted for her. She was dressed immaculately every day. Even the chef got to know her little food pleasures in life and spoilt her regularly. This is a very personal care home, where the staff are the key asset and make the difference. The management is excellent, helpful and always available and supportive. You are wonderful.

My parents have lived in Five Oaks since August 2021. Five Oaks is excellently managed with a caring and professional senior team. From what I have seen, the carers really do care about the comfort and dignity of the residents. Five Oaks has a very homely feel about it and is clean and well maintained. I am kept well informed about matters. My parents have settled in well and I am can relax in the knowledge that they are safe and well looked after.

My uncle has been living at Five Oaks for 3 years now and has been very happy living here. My uncle tells me that the staff are very good, checking up on him even during the night time, which is reassuring in case he has a fall and cannot reach the alarm. Five Oaks is kept very clean including the seating and dining areas, the toilets, bathrooms and the residents' rooms, hygiene is very good which is very important to keep infection at bay. My uncle says that the meals are very good and has no complaints about the food at Five Oaks.

I visited Five Oaks myself and can honestly say that it has a really comfortable homely feel, is very well decorated and very much like a family home, which in my opinion is very important to the mental well-being of the residents. The staff are trained to help with medication and I have peace of mind that my uncle is being well looked after. I would recommend Five Oaks.

Five Oaks is a very well run care home with conscientious, professional, kind, attentive and very helpful staff. The health and welfare of the residents are clearly front and foremost in all the actions of the staff. There is a choice of well balanced, home-cooked food at each mealtime and my mother-in-law is always complimentary about the food and has many favourites.

In the pre-Covid era, Five Oaks had an entertainment manager who arranged a wide and varied range of daily activities. There were usually 2 activities a day, including pantomimes, mini-stage shows, singers, musicians, physical activities, etc.

Five Oaks looks more like a hotel than a care home, which we took into consideration when we originally reviewed the local care homes. This is why my mother-in-law felt at home almost immediately. Our family continue to be extremely happy with the level of care and attention that Five Oaks provide.

Mum has been really happy here. This is her third year. Recently she has needed more care and I couldn’t be happier with the care and kindness she has been shown. Five Oaks is a special care home and they have become like our family. Certain staff, in particular, I feel treat my mum like she was their own. The staff are very approachable if we have any concerns. The stress has been taken away from us knowing that mum is being well looked after. The manager is a very warm and friendly person. I would highly recommend it. As a family, we looked at many places for mum as she is extremely fussy and this was the only place that ticked all the boxes!

My father has been at Five Oaks for over 8 years and appreciates that he is in a safe environment. Staff have made adjustments to meet his particular needs particularly regarding his meals and meal times.

He is still active and likes to go for a walk most days of the week, weather and health permitting and the freedom that he has to do this helps both his peace of mind and his general wellbeing.
