Review of Five Oaks from Andrew R (Son of Resident) published on 27 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mother has been a resident of Five Oaks for about 18 months now.
It was difficult for her at first but the care home manager took a great interest in her and did her best over this time to help her settle in. The staff are generally attentive but the problem with all care homes is that a resident can't have "on-demand" attention all of the time. It's impossible. But the great thing about Five Oaks is that there are two lounges which are next to each other and there are loads of staff there all the time. So whilst they might be busy, if you need urgent attention you can get it. (We did compare Five Oaks with another local care home that had several smaller lounges, but this meant that staff were spread more thinly across the site.).
There is a choice of food but, to be honest, it's of a standard you might expect where you are doing mass catering on a budget.

Family & friends can come in at any time, without feeling that they are in the way.

Review of Five Oaks from M N (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mum has been in Five Oaks for around 17 months now and she's very happy there. She has a lovely room which overlooks the gardens. The staff are lovely and work so hard.I have found Rahima very friendly and helpful and she will always respond to any questions I have almost immediately. She also sends me little videos of Mum dancing which the whole family appreciate. We had concerns about Mum's weight when she arrived, but the Home has kept her on a diet and she has been losing weight which we're all very happy about. Mum has full mental capacity and finds the weekends quiet because there aren't any activities going on. However, during the week there are some very good activities particularly the singing and the dancing and Mum loves it when the little children visit. Finally, a nice touch would be when visitors have travelled from far away to come and see residents they are offered a a tea or coffee. Overall we are very happy with the care home.

Review of Five Oaks from Lesley L (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Five Oaks was my mum's home for over 7 years from November 2018 - March 2026. I always felt like it was my home too. She had many happy times over the years at parties, celebrations and events. The staff as a team do everything they can to keep the residents well, clean, fed, dignified, comfortable and entertained. I have to commend the current Manageress, Deputy Manageress, senior staff, all of the carers and every other member of staff for how they cared for my mum and me at the end of her life. They all went above and beyond the call of duty. My mum was handled with such tender, gentle, loving care and so was I. Their approach was personal and professional which helped to cushion my unbearable loss. I was made to feel like Five Oaks was losing two family members. A beautiful celebration of her life and antics was held at Five Oaks where I was able to thank the entire team from house keeping, the chef and his team, the kind carers to the incredible Managers for everything they do.

Reply from Rahima Mulindwa, Registered Manager at Five Oaks

I have been visiting a close relative for some time and have always thought Millway House as it is currently run is first class.
The staff are always caring and patient, her room and en suite are spotless.

A great effort is made to provide communal activities, but time is still spent on meeting an individual's needs.

My father has been a resident at this care home since May 2026. We were very nervous about putting him into a home but the staff and manager/deputy manager have been so good and welcoming that we are happy that he is in safe hands.

We are so happy that he has settled in really well and that the staff are there for him and for us if we need to ask anything.

Overall Experience
Both of my parents reside in Millway and we are all delighted with the excellent care and medical attention they receive. The atmosphere is very happy and feels like home. Our experience is 100% kindness. Both parents regard the carers as good friends as they and all the staff take time to engage, laugh and chat with such genuine care.

We also feel part of the Millway family. Over the three years we have been delighted at the stability of staff. The turnover is practically zero and all staff seem very happy to be there. Lots of thought is put into everything, from activities to the details in the residents personal rooms. Communication is excellent, with regular calls from nurses and easy and quick contact when we need it. There are lovely welcoming spaces to bring visitors to both in the house and the beautiful garden. Friends and relatives of mum and da,d are made welcome. Christmas is amazing, with mum and dad feeling like they are hosting us as we dine together. We love Millway!!

Review of Hargrave House from J W (Friend of Resident) published on 6 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Very concerned to see my friend slumped in a chair on arrival. He was only helped to sit upright when we requested a cushion to make him more comfortable. He struggles to eat and drink easily. I had to request a beaker rather than a glass. Very concerned that he didn't eat or drink enough. He came home without some of his belongings. I won't go into details but he left the facility much worse than he went in.

I was accosted by a resident who was quite aggressive. I felt really uncomfortable and didn't feel that staff were aware of what was going on in the lounge. They were very pleasant but the residents just seemed to be left without anyone checking if they were OK.

Mother-in-law has been at millway since January and has settled amazingly well . She has been well looked after and her needs met . When we visit she always seem settled well dressed and showered (which she never liked previously!).
The carers appear to know her well and accommodate her likes / dislikes, with both her care needs and smaller details which are important to our mother .
The carers are always friendly and help us enjoy our visit .
Millway is a lovely , calm setting with good nutritious food .

We are very happy to see mother happy , settled and improving in herself since being there

My mother has only just started in the care home (1 week), but so far we have felt very welcomed and looked after. As a family we feel that a huge weight has been lifted of our shoulders knowing she is safe and getting looked after well and the fact she is smiling much more now is testament to that! We have visited the home every day bar one and on every visit we have been welcomed and felt very easy during our visit. Our Father moved into Millway House in January 2026 and has received incredible care from the day he arrived. He has been made to feel welcome, has been encouraged to join activities and has settled in his new home very quickly. Day to day medical care has been outstanding and a couple of emergency situations were dealt with in a very professional and calm manner. His room is kept spotlessly clean, the laundry service is excellent and the food is always of a very good standard. It gives our family great peace of mind to know my father is safe and secure in such a caring environment.
