Minchenden Lodge

from Briony H (Niece of Resident) published on 5 February 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
After the passing of my Aunt, I felt the need to record our positive experiences that she and her family received from Minchenden Lodge . She arrived in 2008, and died on January 25th, aged 100 years and 4 months. In the time she lived there, she received the utmost care and attention, living a relaxed,
safe life of companionship and comfort.
The carers always showed great patience, humour and gentleness, putting up with her moods and eccentricities. The managers kept the channels of communication open, and we were kept informed about her well being. She loved her food, and was guaranteed warm nutritious meals.
When she was more able, she enjoyed the wide range of social activities organised by the coordinator including singing with enthusiasm, chair aerobics, experiences with animals, games and day trips.
Our family would like to thank all the staff at Minchenden Lodge for the best life she could have had in her twilight years. Maybe that is why she stuck around for so long.
Reply from Kemisha Morris, TBC at Minchenden LodgeThank you Brony for sharing such a moving review. We were deeply saddened by your aunt's passing and send our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
It was a privilege to care for her during her many years at Minchenden Lodge, and she will be fondly remembered by our team. Your kind words about the care, companionship, and activities she enjoyed mean a great deal to us, and we are honoured to have been part of her life.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your memories.

I am very grateful to all the staff at Five Oaks for the care and compassion shown to my husband throughout his stay. It was a very hard decision to move him to a care home when I could no longer manage his needs at home. The staff made the place welcoming and feel like home for both of us. Free visits
at any time were a key part of this. Whenever there was an issue I was heard with compassion and they always made an effort to solve it. They clearly cared about all their residents. I am reassured that we chose the right care home for him
Reply from Rahima Mulindwa, Registered Manager at Five OaksThank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and heartfelt review. We know how difficult the decision to move a loved one into a care home can be, and we are truly honoured that you entrusted Five Oaks with your husband's care.

Our team is deeply grateful for your kind words about the compassion, openness, and dedication shown throughout his stay. Creating a welcoming, homely environment for both residents and their families is incredibly important to us, and we're pleased that our open visiting policy and listening approach helped provide reassurance during a challenging time.

Your feedback means a great deal to our staff and reinforces why they do what they do every day. Thank you again for your trust it has been a privilege to support you and your husband

Millway House

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My wife has been in two care homes. The first was in a grand building that looked very good but the staff didn't care much. By contrast Millway House may look a little worn here and there but the staff are excellent. They really care for her. I have watched them having enormous patience with some
difficult residents. That is what makes a good home. Don't look at the fabric - look at the staff. On occasion communication with me could be better but I always know my wife is being taken care of. I could not submit this without rating food and drink but I cannot honestly give a rating for food as I have only ever had three meals at Millway.
Reply from Claire Lousteau, Home Manager at Millway HouseThank you, for your thoughtful feedback. We are pleased to hear that you feel our staff provide compassionate and attentive care to your wife.
We appreciate your comment regarding communication and will continue to work on strengthening this aspect of our service. Please feel free to contact me directly if you ever require further updates or support.

My experience has been positive.
All staff have been extremely caring towards all the residents. I can't comment on the food (not having seen or eaten it) but I hear good reports of it. Residents always have drinks available and are encouraged to drink. Medical care very good. Can't comment on value
for money yet as funded by NHS so far.
Reply from Claire Lousteau, Home Manager at Millway HouseThank you for your kind feedback. We really appreciate you sharing your experience. It's lovely to hear that you have found our team to be caring and attentive, and that you feel reassured by the support and medical care your loved one is receiving. Millway House is an excellent care home. The staff are caring and attentive to the needs of the residents and work hard to maintain an excellent quality of care. The home is well maintained and Is in excellent decorative order with very comfortable furniture for the residents. The residents have many
activities for them to take part in if they wish to, and also trips out for those who are fit and well enough. There are also many excellent and talented entertainers who visit on a regular basis. The kitchen provide a varied and excellent menu for the residents. I am very happy with the care my Father has received over the 5 years he has resided at Millway Nursing Home.

The care shown by the staff and manager/deputy manager has been attentive and compassionate . My mother has Parkinson's. She has visited 4 care homes in the area for respite care and this is by far the best. I trusted that Mum was in safe hands. It feels like a family at the home. Staff always greet
you with a smile. I was stuck to make a decision about whether Mum should stay long term or to take her home and care for her a little longer. The manager was really supportive in answering my questions. We will choose Five Oaks for respite and a long term space in 2026. Mum said she enjoyed it at the hotel!
Reply from Rahima Mulindwa, Registered Manager at Five OaksThank you for your kind review. Were delighted to hear that you and your mother felt safe, supported, and welcomed during her stay with us. Excellent facilities and good standard of care from the staff. Disappointed with the management approach to family in resolving outstanding debt issues.
Overall care staff are very friendly. My mum does moan about the standard of food but I think that's more that she is quite frustrated at being in

My Aunt spent the last 8yrs at Hargrave House, before passing away November. She had dementia. so was in Alice Grace. From the moment my aunt stepped trough the door at Alice Grace not only did it become her home but everyone there became her family. The whole team of staff treated my aunt with
dignity and respect. Throughout her stay we never had any concerns about her care. I have no doubt that the compassion and kindness shown to my aunt made her final years happier than she could have been anywhere else.

My Mum has now been living in Millway house for nearly a year. She is much happier and less lonely than she was at home. She is well looked after by staff and feels cared for. There seems to be a low staff turnover (always the sign of a good place to work) and many have been there quite some time.
The staff are always friendly and caring. The Manager Claire is very approachable and Jo on the reception desk is always smiley and really helpful. My Mum enjoys the food and there is plenty to eat! The activities are varied and Sarah and her team work hard to ensure there are interesting things to do. My Mum has her nails done each week and very much likes the weekly church service by a local vicar/curate in the home. The communication with families is good and I receive regular phone calls from the nurses asking for feedback about Mums care. Millway House looks good and always smells nice and clean. I would say it's a really good home.

Placing my mum in a care home due to her progressing dementia was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, but Five Oaks has given me true peace of mind. The home is warm, clean, and welcoming, with spacious rooms, en-suite bathrooms, and a beautiful, well-kept garden. The staff are consistently
attentive, kind, and caring. My mum has been at Five Oaks for over a month, and the level of care has been excellent. Each resident has an individual care plan that all staff can access, and whenever I visit, my mum is always clean, comfortable, and well presented. There are regular activities, outings, and events to keep residents engaged, and visiting is completely flexible - family can come anytime, and staff are always friendly and accommodating. It's also easy to get updates over the phone. Five Oaks has made an incredibly difficult situation much easier, and I'm genuinely grateful for the wonderful care my mum receives. Highly recommended.

As a family we cannot thank or praise Nayland House more for the exemplary care it provides for my mother. She has severe Vascular Dementia, and as a family we made the heartbreaking decision 3.5 years ago that her needs were too great to be met safely at home. We had heard nothing but positive things
about Nayland House, and true to its name we remain extremely impressed at the exceptional level of care it provides. Clinical and management staff are polite, respectful and keep us fully informed about developments including weekly medical reviews. We have complete confidence that my mother is being looked after by the best possible team. We see firsthand when we visit her how happy she is, and how much she is looked after. I am a practising GP myself so am fully aware of the holistic needs required to look after complex residents such as my mother. However, I would not hesitate to recommend the Nayland House to anyone looking for a nurturing, supportive and loving home.
