Care Homes Owned by Birchstone Care

Our mother has been at Five Oaks care home in Cockfosters for just over 18 months and we cannot praise them enough. Her settling in period was very challenging and the staff were patient and worked with us through that difficult period. Now mum is content and all her needs are met. This home has an open plan set up that allows residents to wander around and there are regular celebratory events, entertainers and exercise facilitators visiting. We like that it's not a huge facility like some of the new homes available, this gives it a homely feel. The rooms are impeccably cleaned. There is a fun and warm atmosphere inspite of the obvious challenges faced by the residents, and the caring and friendly staff are led by outstanding management.

Whilst I was away, Mum sadly suffered a stroke and was admitted to hospital, where she remained for five weeks.

Throughout this difficult time, the carers were in constant contact with me, keeping me regularly updated and discussing plans for Mum's return to the care home.

They even took the time to visit Mum in hospital to assess her changing needs and ensure that everything was in place for her return. They went above and beyond to put the necessary care plan into action as quickly and smoothly as possible.

On Mum's return, her room had been thoughtfully prepared and fully equipped to meet her needs. The carers have shown her nothing but kindness, patience, compassion and dignity, making sure she is comfortable, clean and cared for at all times.

Sadly, Mum is now completely dependent on others for even her most basic needs, which makes the care she receives all the more important.

Excellent care given, friendly staff, caring enviroment, engaging with residents, creating a homely feel.

Mum and Dad both moved here Jan 2025 and have rooms next to each other, so they can spend time together. I can't fault this care home. Mum and dad are safe, clean and well fed. Staff are well skilled and genuinely seem to care. Activities seem fun and varied. I'm greeted with a smile from everybody from reception, management, nursing and the care staff. All of my concerns are answered promptly and I'm kept informed of everything from medication changes to minor or major incidents. Both mum and dad say they are happy here.

My mother is a resident on the Hargrave House side and receives excellent care from the exceptionally kind and caring staff. She enjoys the food and the activities on offer and the calm atmosphere of the home, particularly the beautiful gardens. Management and staff are very approachable and always go the extra mile to help and communicate any concerns/ medical updates promptly with me. She is thriving on the quality of care she receives and is happy to be at hargrave House. Highly recommended.

We are totally happy with this care home where my father resides. It is always very clean and the staff are very friendly and so helpful. The best compliment I can pay you is that I would be happy to be there if and when the time comes!!

Despite a few teething problems at the start Millway House has listened to us taken on board feedback and made changes. Mum is particularly vulnerable as she has expressive dysphasia as part of her Alzheimer's do is unable to ask for things or show her emotions / preferences. I feel confident mum is safe and well cared for with opportunities to be involved / present for any activities taking place.

My Step-Dad became a resident on 24th June 2026 and I couldn't be happier! Every single member of staff are so friendly and helpful and the care given to my Step-Dad is Wonderful. Communication is amazing, always keeping me updated (even on the broken dishwasher)! Puts my mind at rest that my family member is being so well cared for. Thank you!

My husband been at fives oakes care home just under 2 years.

He has setteled very well. On a few occasions he had to be away from the care home due to sickness, it is very clear on his return from his facial expression and interaction with staff, he was happy to be be back in his familiar surroundings.

My experience with care staff and management is warm and friendly, but if I need to address concerns I find them to be approachable and professional .

I feel comfortable as times passes leaving my husband in their care and thank God for the service.

Moving to Five Oaks has been a complete change from independent living for my Mother which has been handled professionally and empathetically.

My father needed care and I was recommended Muscliffe care home. I was contacted by this lovely Lady Sharon Manager of the care home, she was absolutely amazing I explained my concerns she was extremely helpful she placed my father in the home with in a matter of hours as this was an emergency due to my dad's dementia that has got worse. I am always updated on everything. Sharon keeps me in the loop all the time. The staff are all amazing Sharon does a great job the residents are all very well looked after. The home is lovely and cleanliness 200%. I would definitely recommend this place, Sharon has been a blessing. I rate this care home excellent in every aspect.

Another matter where improvement can be made is when the imobile residents need to be transferred from wheelchairs to the settee/sofa. In many occasions there isn't carers available to do this especially after meal times.

My only comment is I think more care staff are needed sometimes they struggle with needs of patients when there's not enough.

I would especially like to thank everybody involved with the summer fete on 11th July. The food and entertainment was top class. A big thankyou to everybody.

Family & friends can come in at any time, without feeling that they are in the way.

My mum has been in Five Oaks for around 17 months now and she's very happy there. She has a lovely room which overlooks the gardens. The staff are lovely and work so hard.I have found Rahima very friendly and helpful and she will always respond to any questions I have almost immediately. She also sends me little videos of Mum dancing which the whole family appreciate. We had concerns about Mum's weight when she arrived, but the Home has kept her on a diet and she has been losing weight which we're all very happy about. Mum has full mental capacity and finds the weekends quiet because there aren't any activities going on. However, during the week there are some very good activities particularly the singing and the dancing and Mum loves it when the little children visit. Finally, a nice touch would be when visitors have travelled from far away to come and see residents they are offered a a tea or coffee. Overall we are very happy with the care home.
