As soon as we walked into Bullsmoor Lodge, we instantly knew this was the place we'd been looking for - the place felt airy, bright, colourful, smelt nice, and all the staff had smiles on their faces plus they were all so friendly.

We also immediately sensed a level of detail and care and attention

to residents that we didn't necessarily sense anywhere else.

We instantly knew this was the right place for us and this came as a massive relief as prior to that we were having doubts about everywhere we'd visited.

As well as being a lovely building and ideal size for what we wanted (neither too small nor too big), the staff are truly amazing. Every single person (carers, kitchen staff, cleaners, admin staff, management etc) that I came across was a genuine pleasure.

I feel very grateful to the management and staff for such a positive experience (thank you!).

Reply from Lisa Coombs, Manager at Bullsmoor LodgeThank you for your kind words, I will share this with the staff. We always aim to provide a good service and make the place "home from home" - we look forward to seeing you and your Father again soon.

Dad has been at Bullsmoor only a few weeks but we can honestly say, we are so happy knowing he is being cared for by such lovely caring staff. They are always smiling, so attentive and so patient. Dad is treated with respect and his dignity afforded at all times. They even share a bit of banter. A huge
weight has been lifted from our shoulders and we can rest at night knowing he is safe and his needs are being met. He's always clean and changed regularly and tells us they are all lovely.
Reply from Lisa Coombs, Manager at Bullsmoor LodgeThank you so much for trusting us with your Dads care, it is nice to know we have provided you with reassurance. I will share this feedback with the staff.

Since arriving at Bullsmoor Lodge in the new year, my grandad has been given a whole new lease of life. Nothing is too much for the staff, and my grandad's health conditions are never too big or demanding for their time or care - they are angels! I haven't seen him this happy or excited to get involved
in a long time and as a family we're so thrilled. The whole team keep us updated with everything he's up to and we're so happy he gets to call Bullsmore Lodge home.

Since my aunt has been here, I feel very happy to know she is cared for. I have witnessed the love and care the carers give to her. My aunt came from a big family and in our tradition, we look after our seniors but her daughtered suffered a heart attack and I was looking after my partner with cancer
so we were very anxious to put her in a home. However, she has thrived and the care the carers give her is home from home, we are very happy and the whole team are so caring and we feel so relaxed to know my aunt is in safe hands.
Reply from Sara Gallagher, Operations Manager at Bullsmoor LodgeThank you for taking the time to review Bullsmoor Lodge - we really appreciate you doing so. It is lovely to read your thoughts about the care and support provided by the Bullsmoor team and heartwarming to know that your aunt and whole family are happy.

The home was welcoming, clean, bright and secure.
Staff were at the door to welcome us in, help us sign in and show us around. Residents looked happy and cared for. Music was playing and staff were helpful.
We all sat in the small lounge together, the home is gorgeous and we would highly recommend.

My amazing mum went initially for respite and relaxation following a hip replacement and previously had a stroke and was diagnosed with vascular dementia, she was only meant to stay for a few weeks. I have always popped to see her or call her most days but clearly, the magnificent staff could clearly
see what I could, she was coming on leaps and bounds in just a few weeks, I can't remember the last time I saw my mum so happy. It brought me to tears. I went to the staff in charge and said we will do whatever it takes, please let my mum stay here, I love seeing her so happy, loved and well cared for.
Thanks to all the staff at Bullsmoor Lodge for granting my mum and my greatest wishes. She loves her comfortable bed, her perfect room and she is waited on hand and foot and is now living the life of a teenager. Singing, dancing shows, you name it, they are putting it on. I have seriously never seen such a place like it.

My dear Mum was always fearful of ever having to go into a care home. Thankfully, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Vascular Dementia and hip replacement at the age of 89, she went to stay at Bullsmoor Lodge in March of this year. She is now a permanent resident and is happier and healthier than
she has been for years. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their round-the-clock care and love they all show on a daily basis. Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for somewhere for their loved ones stay. Eternally grateful to them all.

We are so grateful to all the staff especially the manager at Bullsmoor Lodge. My mum is now in safe and professional care 24/7 and that is a source of huge relief and comfort to us after a very difficult time. My mum's health and well-being have greatly improved since she arrived at Bullsmoor Lodge.
Every carer at the lodge is extremely kind and friendly. The facilities are very clean and there are wonderful communal areas for all residents and their visitors to have space to relax.
The bedroom is lovely and the en-suite bathroom is perfect.
I highly recommend Bullsmoor Lodge.

The staff and warm and kind and offer a good level of care. We are very happy with the care that our Grandmother is receiving however the company has just put the fees up by 8%, over £500 a month, £6000 a year with no notice or discussion. When challenged about this they blamed the rise in the minimum
wage which is awful as the tiny (and very justified) raise in the minimum wage could not account for such a huge increase. Clearly, the company are only focused on making more and more profits. The fees have increased by a third in six years, they are now at an unsustainable level which causes a huge anxiety as to our grandmother's future.

In September 2023, my mother, aged 90, who lived with me, spent two weeks in respite care. After her stay, she asked to go on the waiting list to become a permanent resident as she couldn't fault the care she received. My mother has mobility problems, and the staff were patient, friendly and attentive.
The meals were varied and very good. In October 2023, my mother became a permanent resident. She quickly settled in and continues to be happy. In December, my mother became unwell and the attention and care she received have been excellent. As a result, she is much better and continues to recover well. My mother is a very sociable person and enjoys interacting with the friendly staff and has made a very dear friend who is a resident. The Christmas party for residents and family members was a great success. My mother described the New Year's Eve party as fantastic. Knowing my mother is cared for so well has relieved a lot of stress for me, and we both now have quality time together when I visit.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.784)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.784) out of 10 for Bullsmoor Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.884 for Bullsmoor Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (173 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 190 Ratings = 4.884
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bullsmoor Lodge is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
